To stream Malayalam devotional videos live in 4K at 60 fps, use OBS to send a 3840×2160, 60-fps feed to YouTube Live, with a stable encoder, the right codec-specific bitrate, and enough upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for AV1/HEVC at this resolution and frame rate. These are general technical settings; there are no special Malayalam-specific encoder requirements.

Check that 4K60 is right for your program

Choose 4K60 only if the source, computer, encoder, and network can sustain it together. A 4K output setting cannot add detail that was not present in the original recording, and 60 fps can demand substantially more processing than 30 fps. OBS advises testing the system’s capacity before relying on a demanding configuration.

  • Use source footage or a camera output that actually supports the resolution and frame rate you plan to send.
  • Confirm that your encoder supports the selected codec and can keep up with 4K60.
  • Test upload speed under the same network conditions you expect during the broadcast; other devices and applications may consume bandwidth.
  • Check the devotional audio carefully, including recorded tracks, live vocals, and any microphone or desktop audio that should be muted.

For 4K SDR, YouTube specifies Rec. 709 color and 8-bit. Do not enable HDR unless the source and encoder are configured for an HDR workflow.

Choose an encoder codec and bitrate

YouTube’s published live-encoder guidance recommends the following video bitrates for 4K (2160p) at 60 fps. These are input settings for the live encoder, not a promise that every viewer will receive a 4K60 playback stream: YouTube transcodes live video into multiple formats for viewers.

Codec Recommended 4K60 video bitrate Listed minimum
AV1 35 Mbps 10 Mbps
H.265/HEVC 35 Mbps 10 Mbps
H.264 50 Mbps 14 Mbps

These figures are from YouTube Help; the page does not state a publication year. Use the recommendation for the codec your encoder actually sends. AV1 or HEVC may use a lower recommended bitrate than H.264, but hardware and software support differ, so do not select a codec your system cannot encode reliably.

  • Set bitrate control to CBR (constant bitrate).
  • Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  • Use RTMP or RTMPS as the ingest protocol.
  • For stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz; it also lists MP3 as an accepted audio codec.

Allow enough upload bandwidth

YouTube recommends testing upload speed and keeping available upload capacity above the total stream bitrate, with about 20% headroom. For a 50 Mbps H.264 video setting, that guidance implies planning for roughly 60 Mbps of available upload capacity before allowing for other network use. This is arithmetic based on YouTube’s headroom recommendation, not a separate YouTube-published threshold.

Download speed does not establish whether your connection can upload the stream. Run a speed test from the streaming location, account for other devices and services using the connection, and test the complete OBS setup. If the connection fluctuates, a bitrate that appears adequate in a one-time test may still produce dropped frames during the event.

Set up YouTube Live and OBS

  1. Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule a live stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically; a custom stream key can be configured for manual resolution settings when needed. Keep the key private, and reset it if it is exposed.
  2. Set OBS video output. In OBS, set the output (scaled) resolution to 3840×2160 and the common FPS value to 60. Choose these only if the source and system can sustain them. Select a hardware encoder if your system supports it and it performs appropriately; hardware encoding can reduce CPU workload, but capability and quality vary by hardware generation.
  3. Configure stream output. Select the supported codec and apply its YouTube bitrate recommendation from the table. Use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. Set the ingest to RTMP or RTMPS, then configure audio for AAC, stereo, 128 kbps, and 44.1 kHz if following YouTube’s recommendation.
  4. Route and monitor sound. In OBS, choose the intended microphone/auxiliary input or desktop audio source. Listen to the devotional track or live vocals, check for clipping, and mute unintended microphone or desktop audio. OBS supports desktop and microphone/auxiliary inputs; the right selection depends on how your program’s audio enters the computer.
  5. Run a full rehearsal. Test with the same audio, motion, sources, and network conditions planned for the event. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, and monitor audio and video. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance and starting it before the scheduled broadcast.
  6. Use a lower-resolution fallback if needed. If the stream drops frames, audio drifts, or the connection cannot hold the selected bitrate, switch to a stable output such as 1440p60 or 1080p60. Use YouTube’s published bitrate guidance for the chosen resolution and codec; consider saving separate OBS profiles for 4K and fallback settings.

Understand latency and viewer playback

YouTube does not offer its low-latency option for 4K streams; 4K uses normal latency. For a devotional program that does not depend on rapid audience interaction, normal latency may be suitable. If quick back-and-forth with viewers matters more than 4K, consider a lower resolution and a latency mode appropriate to the event. Lower latency can increase viewer buffering, while normal latency is oriented toward stream quality.

Prepare the content and rights

Technical readiness does not establish that a recording may be broadcast. Before streaming a devotional song, recording, or performance, confirm that you have the necessary rights to the music and recording and follow YouTube’s applicable copyright processes. The permission status of any particular track cannot be determined from its devotional subject or language.

Keep the program’s audio and video intentional: use the recording or live source you mean to broadcast, and check that no unrelated desktop sound or private material is captured. OBS’s output settings cannot compensate for unsupported camera output, an overloaded computer, unstable upload, or poor source audio.

Troubleshoot common 4K60 problems

Symptom Likely area to check What to do
Dropped frames or stream-health warnings Upload capacity, network contention, or encoder load Check upload under live conditions, reduce competing network use, and test a lower bitrate or 1440p60/1080p60 fallback.
Choppy video despite a fast speed test Available upload may be below the test result during the event, or the computer may not sustain encoding Rehearse with the full production; check system load and actual stream health, then lower the output if necessary.
Audio is missing or doubled Incorrect OBS input selection or multiple active audio sources Inspect desktop and microphone/auxiliary inputs, mute sources that should not be heard, and monitor the final mix.
Audio drifts out of sync System or stream instability, or source/audio routing issues Test the same sources and motion planned for the program, inspect OBS and YouTube health, and reduce the output demand if instability continues.
YouTube does not receive the stream Stream URL or key configuration Recheck the URL and key entered in OBS. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update OBS.
4K picture looks no sharper than the source The original video may have less detail than 4K Use an appropriately detailed source; scaling a lower-resolution recording does not restore captured detail.
