To run a 24/7 ASMR livestream with OBS, keep a computer and a reliable internet connection running, send a preconfigured video-and-audio feed to YouTube Live Control Room, and monitor the stream for interruptions. OBS can encode and send the feed, but it does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted uptime. YouTube also warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as replays, so plan a separate local recording if you need an archive.
What you need before setting up OBS
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder stream in advance and confirming that viewers can access the event from the channel and watch pages. YouTube live streaming tips
- A computer that can encode your chosen video and audio settings continuously, plus an upload connection that can sustain the stream with spare bandwidth.
- The ASMR video and audio source you intend to broadcast. Choose a microphone, interface, or other source to suit your room and budget; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not require a particular ASMR microphone or acoustic treatment.
- OBS Studio and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder option.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the corresponding server and stream-key fields in OBS. YouTube describes the key as the credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and enables YouTube to accept it. Treat it as a password: do not share it or include it in a public screenshot. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- Keep the stream key private and use the YouTube stream URL and key for this broadcast. If you believe the key has been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS before streaming again.
Configure OBS for a sustainable stream
Choose protocol, video, and bitrate
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 for the described workflow. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a keyframe interval of two seconds, not more than four. Its recommended H.264 bitrates include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps; it gives the same corresponding bitrate recommendations for AV1 or H.265. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that your computer or connection can sustain them. Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
In OBS, set the output resolution, frame rate, encoder, bitrate mode, bitrate, and keyframe interval to match a target your hardware and upload connection can sustain. Do not select a higher resolution or frame rate simply because it is available: lower the target if the stream drops frames or the connection cannot hold the bitrate.
Set audio for the sound you are broadcasting
YouTube’s listed encoder guidance recommends stereo audio at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Use those as encoder targets where they suit your audio chain, then listen to the actual preview. For ASMR, check that the intended quiet details are audible without clipping, unwanted noise, or abrupt level changes; those are practical listening checks, not special YouTube requirements.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Leave upload bandwidth headroom
Run an upload speed test on the connection used by the streaming computer. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate and cautions that a shared network can limit the bandwidth available to one stream. If the available upload cannot sustain your chosen target plus that margin, reduce the video bitrate or resolution rather than relying on a best-case speed reading. YouTube streaming tips
A wired Ethernet connection is a reasonable option for a fixed streaming computer, but it does not ensure uptime and YouTube does not require it. Other devices or uploads using the same network can still affect the stream.

Test before making the channel continuous
- Start with an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream, using audio and movement similar to the real ASMR broadcast.
- Check the Live Control Room preview to confirm that the expected video and sound arrive correctly.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages. YouTube recommends monitoring these during the event; automated settings do not replace checking what viewers receive.
- Test your recovery plan before depending on the setup. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing backup-encoder failover; decide who will notice a failure and what they will do if the primary computer, encoder, or connection stops working.
For YouTube’s preparation and monitoring advice, see YouTube live streaming tips and its encoder-setting guidance at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Choose between one continuous session and shorter broadcasts
A 24/7 broadcast lasts 1,440 minutes, far beyond YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived,” and warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Therefore, do not rely on a single continuous 24/7 stream to create a complete YouTube replay. The archive guidance does not promise that shorter streams will be preserved indefinitely. - If uninterrupted ambience matters most: keep the continuous session, but make a separate local recording if you need an archive.
- If separate YouTube replays matter: consider ending and starting shorter scheduled sessions. Choose the schedule around the content and the monitoring you can provide; shorter sessions are not a guarantee of permanent archive availability.
YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup. If you record locally, check that the file is growing during the broadcast and verify its integrity afterward. A local recording protects against relying solely on YouTube’s long-stream archive behavior, but it still needs enough local storage and monitoring. Archive live streams; YouTube live streaming tips
Keep the stream monitored and recoverable
For a stream intended to stay available, make a human monitoring plan: decide who checks the preview, audio, and stream health; how often they check; and who can restart or reconfigure the encoder if it fails. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring stream quality and testing failover, but does not establish a particular OBS watchdog, automatic restart setup, or guaranteed failover service.

Before leaving the channel unattended, test what happens when the primary encoder or connection fails and confirm how you will regain access to YouTube Studio and OBS. A spare encoder or alternate connection may help only if it has been configured and tested; it should not be treated as automatic recovery without that test.

| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Live Control Room does not receive the feed | Stream URL, key, or encoder setup | Confirm that OBS uses the URL and key for the intended YouTube stream, and check YouTube’s messages and stream-health status. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update OBS. |
| Stream health degrades or viewers see interruptions | Upload capacity, shared network use, or selected bitrate | Run an upload speed test, leave the recommended 20% headroom, and reduce bitrate or resolution if needed. Check whether other devices or network activity are competing for upload capacity. |
| Video or audio is missing or unlike the intended ASMR feed | OBS sources, encoder settings, or the incoming preview | Inspect the OBS source and output settings, then compare them with the Live Control Room preview before treating the stream as ready. Test with representative audio and movement. |
| A long broadcast has no complete YouTube replay | Session duration exceeded YouTube’s archive threshold | Do not depend on a stream over 12 hours being captured. Use a local recording for the continuous session or plan shorter sessions if separate YouTube archives are important. |
| The stream stops while the computer or network is unattended | Encoder, computer, connection, or an untested recovery process | Follow the recovery plan, inspect stream health, and restart or switch to a tested backup if available. Review the cause before leaving the setup unattended again. |
