The key caveat is the replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so one uninterrupted day-long broadcast is not a dependable archive.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours; check Live Control Room before planning your start.
- A mini PC that can run OBS at your chosen resolution and frame rate. Basic software compatibility does not guarantee adequate streaming performance.
- OBS Studio, which is free and open source, with downloads for Windows, macOS, and Linux at OBS Studio’s download page.
- A video containing your brown-noise audio and visual, plus the rights needed to broadcast both.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream, plus headroom.
YouTube requires creators to have the necessary rights for livestream content, including applicable music rights. A sound file being available to listen to online does not mean it is licensed for rebroadcast. Use audio and visuals you created or have permission to use.
Prepare the mini PC and video
Check the workload, not just the minimum requirements
OBS’s system requirements describe a baseline for the software to function, not a promise that a computer can encode a particular stream. CPU demand depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. OBS recommends trying its Auto-Configuration Wizard and testing the intended settings on the actual machine. If the mini PC supports hardware encoding through its graphics hardware and drivers, that may move encoding work away from the CPU. Availability varies by hardware; do not assume a particular mini PC has a supported hardware encoder. OBS explains the trade-off in its hardware encoding guide.

Build a simple, rights-cleared video
Combine your licensed brown-noise audio with a still image or a subtle visual loop to create a video file. A mostly static picture does not remove the need to encode and send a live video signal. Keep the scene simple, and test the file from beginning to end for playback, audio level, and any unintended gaps before using it in a continuous broadcast.
Set up the YouTube stream and OBS
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and confirm that the channel can create a live stream. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, create a stream or schedule one. YouTube provides the stream URL and stream key for the encoder setup.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS and go to Settings > Stream. Choose the YouTube service, then enter or connect the stream key as prompted. If entering settings manually, use YouTube’s stream URL and key. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a broadcast to your stream.
- Set the video and audio output. In OBS, open Settings > Output and Settings > Video. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate the mini PC and upload connection can sustain. Use H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, and a two-second keyframe interval for YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance. Use YouTube’s encoder settings guidance to select a bitrate for the resolution and frame rate you actually choose.
- Start a test and check the preview. Click Start Streaming in OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview, review stream health, and check that the audio and video appear as intended. Confirm the event is reachable from the channel and watch pages before relying on it.
- Monitor the test. Check that OBS continues encoding, YouTube reports healthy stream status, and the mini PC remains stable under the chosen workload. Test the exact video, settings, connection, and recovery routine you intend to use unattended.
Choose settings and internet capacity conservatively
YouTube’s encoder guidance covers H.264, constant bitrate, AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. It also lists bitrate recommendations by resolution and frame rate. There is no single correct bitrate for every mini PC: select the entry matching your output, then test it. A static brown-noise image may need less visual detail than fast-moving footage, but do not use that as a reason to exceed what the machine or connection can sustain.

YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% more headroom than the total stream bitrate and warns that network disruption can break a stream. For example, if your selected stream bitrate is 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for that stream, before accounting for other devices or simultaneous uploads. This is a planning calculation from YouTube’s 20% recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. See YouTube’s encoder setup and network guidance.
A wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to reduce reliance on Wi-Fi; YouTube’s guidance calls for a reliable connection but does not require Ethernet. Avoid saturating the connection with backups, uploads, or other traffic while testing, and observe stream health over time rather than judging it from a brief preview.

Plan for YouTube’s replay limit
YouTube says livestreams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24-hour stream therefore should not be treated as a reliable, complete replay. If preserving the broadcast matters, make a local recording or plan shorter sessions and verify how each session is archived. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Local recording uses additional storage and may add encoding work, depending on the OBS configuration. Test that the mini PC can record while streaming and that the recording file grows as expected. Keep enough free disk space for the recording duration and confirm the saved file plays before depending on it as your only copy.

Keep a 24/7 mini PC stream dependable
A successful short test is useful, but it does not establish that a particular mini PC or home internet connection will stay online continuously. Before leaving the setup unattended, run it for a representative period and check stream health, audio continuity, system temperature or thermal throttling indicators available on your device, disk space, and whether local recording continues if enabled.
- Disable sleep and automatic shutdown while the broadcast is meant to run; check the operating system’s power settings.
- Make sure OBS opens with the intended scene and that the correct YouTube stream key is saved securely.
- Have a plan for power or internet interruptions. YouTube warns that network disruption can break a stream; a mini PC cannot compensate for a failed connection.
- Check the stream and recording periodically. Do not assume that a live status or a single successful test proves uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
- Keep software, system updates, and reboot timing under control so a scheduled restart or update does not unexpectedly interrupt the stream.
Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: confirm live streaming is enabled for the channel and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Check Live Control Room for account restrictions or setup prompts.
- YouTube receives no signal: verify that OBS is set to the intended YouTube service and that the stream URL and key match the stream currently open in Live Control Room. Treat the key as private and replace it if it may have been exposed.
- The preview buffers or stream health degrades: check available upload capacity against the stream bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Reduce the output bitrate or resolution if the actual connection cannot sustain the selected settings, then test again.
- OBS overloads the mini PC: reduce resolution or frame rate, simplify scenes, or use supported hardware encoding if available. A compatible operating system or CPU alone does not establish that the computer can handle the chosen workload.
- The broadcast ends during a network interruption: restore the connection and check Live Control Room and OBS before restarting. Test your recovery steps in advance; no uptime guarantee is established for a consumer mini PC or home connection.
- The full-day replay is missing or incomplete: this can happen because YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use local recording or shorter sessions if a durable replay is important.
- The audio is claimed, blocked, or removed: review the rights and license terms for the brown-noise recording and any other audio or visuals. Replace material you are not authorized to broadcast with content you created or have permission to use.
Mini PC or cloud streaming?
Running OBS locally gives you direct control and can make use of a mini PC you already own. It also depends on that machine staying powered, cool, connected, and operational. A cloud service shifts playback and streaming away from your home computer, but you should check the provider’s current YouTube workflow, accepted formats, duration, account controls, terms, and price before choosing it.
