Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You can use FFmpeg as the encoder that sends a video-and-audio feed to a YouTube Live event, but a dependable 24/7 channel takes more than starting an encoder: you need live-stream access, rights for the recording and its broadcast, an accurate Made for Kids setting, monitoring and a plan for YouTube’s archive limits. The available official guidance establishes that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not establish a tested FFmpeg command or a guaranteed way to keep one event running and archived indefinitely.
What you need before starting
FFmpeg sends the feed; YouTube Studio creates the Live event and supplies the connection details. Before you build the broadcast, check eligibility, source rights, and how you intend to handle breaks, failures, and archives.
- A channel enabled for live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-stream restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Its current help guidance also says streamers must be at least 16. First-time activation can take time, so check Live Control Room well before the planned launch.
- A source you are allowed to use. Clearance may be needed for the audiobook recording, the underlying text or adaptation, music, artwork, and any other material in the broadcast.
- An FFmpeg host and a stable connection. The computer running FFmpeg must stay on and connected for as long as it is responsible for sending the feed. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing and monitoring the encoder; it does not set out a hardware minimum in the material available here.
- A visual feed. If the source is audio-only, prepare a static image or other suitable visual and test the complete audio/video feed in the event preview.
- An operations plan. Decide who will watch the feed, how you will respond if the process or connection stops, and how you will start the next event if you do not keep one event open.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- Confirm live-stream access. Sign in to YouTube Studio and check Live Control Room. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow time for activation rather than assuming it will be available immediately.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, create or schedule the event and choose the encoder workflow. Check the event’s visibility before launch: use the setting that matches whether you are testing privately or broadcasting for viewers.
- Copy the event’s server URL and stream key into your encoder settings. YouTube uses those credentials to receive the feed and associate it with the event. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it in a command, screenshot, chat, or article, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Set and verify the audience designation. Choose whether the stream is Made for Kids based on the content and applicable YouTube requirements, not on whether you want particular monetization or chat features.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate preview test. Check that the event receives both the intended picture and sound, that playback is continuous, and that the watch page and visibility behave as intended before making the broadcast public.
What FFmpeg can—and cannot—be specified here
FFmpeg is the media input/output tool in this workflow, while the YouTube event supplies the ingest destination and key. The official FFmpeg formats documentation confirms that general role, but the available technical material does not establish a current, production-ready YouTube command, codec or bitrate values, keyframe interval, playlist-loop method, or dependable reconnect behavior.
For that reason, this guide does not invent a command or prescribe encoder values. A command can fail because of option placement, input format, timestamps, or a mismatch with YouTube’s current ingest expectations; putting a real stream key in a shell command can also expose it through shell history or process information. Before choosing those details, check the current FFmpeg command-line documentation and YouTube’s current encoder settings, test with the exact media and host you plan to use, and keep the key private. The available guidance does not report hands-on testing of a specific command.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test the whole chain, not just the FFmpeg process
- Confirm that YouTube’s preview shows a picture and receives clear audio.
- Listen for gaps, unintended silence, clipping, or an abrupt ending at the source-file boundary.
- Check that the event is visible to the intended audience and that the chosen visibility setting is correct.
- Observe the local FFmpeg process and the YouTube event while testing. A process that is still running does not by itself prove that YouTube is receiving a usable stream.
- Document the restart steps for the person on duty. Do not assume a dropped connection will reconnect automatically unless that behavior has been verified with your chosen configuration.
Plan continuity and archives around event limits
A 24/7 channel and a single uninterrupted archived video are different goals. YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that a longer event will produce a complete archive, nor does it promise an uninterrupted event will remain live indefinitely.
If you need archives, plan event boundaries and verify the result in YouTube Studio. Splitting the broadcast into shorter events can fit the documented under-12-hour archive behavior, but it requires someone or something to start the next event and creates a break in the event lifecycle. If continuity matters more than a single archive, still plan for process or network failure and monitor the feed. The available guidance does not establish a way for FFmpeg to create a new YouTube event automatically.

Choose an operating arrangement
| Approach | What it means | Trade-off to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Local, always-on computer | FFmpeg runs on a computer you control and sends the feed over your internet connection. | You retain local control, but the computer, power, and connection must remain available. A failure at home can stop the feed. |
| Hosted server | FFmpeg runs on a remotely hosted machine rather than a computer at home. | Remote access may help with operation away from home, but introduces recurring cost and reliance on the host and its network. No provider or service quality is established here. |
| One long event | The same Live event stays open for a longer continuous broadcast. | It may suit viewer continuity, but the under-12-hour automatic archive guidance does not establish a complete archive for longer streams. |
| Planned shorter events | The broadcast is divided into separate events. | Shorter events can be planned around the documented archive behavior, but each transition requires event management and may interrupt viewing. |
Clear rights for the recording and every other asset
Having a copy of an audiobook does not necessarily grant the rights needed to broadcast it. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the rights needed to use the live content on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights. Check the rights for the actual sound recording separately from those for the literary work, adaptation or translation, illustrations, and musical bed. A public-domain text does not by itself establish rights to a modern recording.
Confirm that the relevant permissions cover the intended public transmission, territories, and any archived copy. Keep documentation for the specific edition and recording. This is a clearance checklist, not a territory-specific legal determination.

Account for Content ID
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream or lead to a warning; unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. If you have permission to use matched material, ask the rights owner about allowlisting before the event and keep the permission details available.
Set the children’s audience accurately
Make the Made for Kids designation based on the content and YouTube’s audience rules. It is not a monetization switch. YouTube lists live chat and live-chat donations, comments, the notification bell, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and personalized ads among the features disabled for an individual Made for Kids stream. Contextual ads may still appear.

Plan the channel’s viewer communication around those limits. Do not promise chat, notifications, or personalized advertising on a stream marked Made for Kids, and do not select a different audience designation simply to retain a feature.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to expect from monetization
Monetization is conditional, not a guaranteed result of running a live stream. YouTube says eligible monetized live streams may use pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads, but an ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. Personalized ads are disabled on Made for Kids streams, so revenue expectations should not assume that form of targeting.

YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and identifies repetitive or mass-produced material as inauthentic content. Owning the necessary rights does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. A channel built around repeated recordings should not assume approval; check the current policy and consider what original curation, production, or other genuine viewer value the channel provides.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Live Control Room does not allow you to start | Channel verification, live-stream activation, or a restriction | Check the channel’s eligibility and restrictions in YouTube Studio; allow for first-time activation time. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Event credentials or encoder configuration | Confirm that the server URL and key belong to the intended event, and recheck the encoder settings against current YouTube guidance. Keep the key private. |
| The event preview has no sound or picture | Input media, visual source, or feed configuration | Check that the selected source contains the expected media and test the complete feed in preview before going public. |
| The stream is interrupted after a rights match | Third-party audio, artwork, or other matched material | Review the match and permissions; where licensed content is involved, ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting. |
| The local encoder is running but the YouTube event is not usable | Connection, feed health, or event state | Check both the local process and the Live Control Room preview. Follow the restart procedure you tested; do not rely on unverified automatic recovery. |
| A long event does not yield the expected complete archive | Event duration and archive behavior | Check the event in Studio. YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed complete archive for longer events. |
| Viewers cannot use chat or certain notifications | Made for Kids designation | Check the event’s audience setting and plan for the listed feature restrictions; do not change the designation just to enable them. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a cloud service to loop uploaded audiobook videos to YouTube rather than keep your own FFmpeg computer running, StreamNeo is one option. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
