You can keep a Kannada children’s story playlist playing on YouTube by running an encoder on an India-region VPS and sending its output to YouTube Live with a stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The key design choice is not just how to keep the encoder running: YouTube says a livestream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you want an archive, plan shorter sessions and keep a separate recording where practical. Before broadcasting, clear the rights to each story and every recording, illustration, soundtrack, and other asset.
What you need before setting up the VPS
- A YouTube channel that can livestream. Confirm livestream availability for your specific channel in YouTube Studio; eligibility and access are account-specific.
- An India-region VPS plan whose current terms allow a long-running encoder and provide enough sustained outbound bandwidth and monthly transfer for your chosen bitrate.
- A playlist of story videos or assets that you have permission to livestream and, if applicable, retain as an on-demand archive.
- An encoder that can repeatedly play the playlist and send an RTMP or RTMPS feed to YouTube.
- A plan for ending and restarting sessions before 12 hours if you need YouTube to create an archive.
A VPS provider’s advertised port speed or “unmetered” label alone does not establish that the plan can sustain your feed. Check the actual transfer allowance, sustained egress terms, process rules, support, and network route to YouTube ingest before choosing a plan.
Prepare the channel and playlist
1. Confirm livestream access and create an event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Confirm that livestreaming is available to your channel, then create or schedule a live event.
- If you want a public watch page in advance, schedule the event and choose the visibility that fits your launch plan. Test first with a private or unlisted event.
- In the encoder connection details, obtain the stream URL and stream key. The encoder uses these credentials to send its feed to the event.
Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, or public repository. Reset it in YouTube Studio if you believe it has been exposed. YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented in its live streaming encoder setup guide.
2. Build and clear the story playlist
Make a rights record for every component, not just the underlying story. A traditional tale may be old, but a modern Kannada translation, narration, audio recording, music track, illustration, or video may have a separate rights holder. A story’s language or intended age group does not establish that a particular version is free to use.

For each item, record the work and edition, rights holder or license, permitted platform, whether public livestreaming and on-demand replay are covered, territory, and any attribution requirement. Check that the rights remain valid for both the live transmission and any archive you retain or rebroadcast. This is a practical clearance workflow, not a determination of any particular work’s legal status.
Choose YouTube encoder settings
For RTMP or RTMPS delivery, YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. It recommends RTMPS where supported so the feed is encrypted into and through Google’s servers. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings when configuring your encoder, since platform guidance can change.

A conservative starting profile for story visuals
For a low-motion story stream, 720p at 30 frames per second can be a reasonable starting point for a test. YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum and 8 Mbps as its recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30. Those are platform guidance figures, not a guarantee that a particular VPS route or encoder will perform reliably. Choose a bitrate your server can sustain and confirm that narration and visuals remain clear in the Live Control Room preview.

Allow bandwidth headroom
The outgoing feed needs stable upload bandwidth from the VPS to YouTube. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom; its streaming tips say, “Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” For example, a feed configured at 8 Mbps needs more than 8 Mbps of dependable egress capacity under that guidance. Also calculate monthly transfer from the bitrate you actually select, then check the provider’s transfer limit and overage terms. A nominal port speed does not prove that the VPS can sustain the feed continuously.

Configure the VPS encoder and test it
- Install and configure the encoder. Use an encoder capable of looping the playlist and sending a live output. Configure the selected resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR, two-second keyframes, and audio codec. Put the YouTube stream URL and key in a protected configuration or secret store, not in publicly readable files.
- Make playlist transitions deliberate. Check that the playlist advances from one story to the next without unintended black frames, silent gaps, or a stop at the end. Confirm how the encoder behaves if a source file is missing or cannot be decoded.
- Start with a private or unlisted event. Open the YouTube Live Control Room preview and check stream health, picture, narration, audio levels, and whether the intended event is receiving the feed.
- Test reconnection and restart behavior. Check what happens if the VPS or encoder process restarts and whether the feed reconnects to the intended event. YouTube notes that network disruption can break a stream; test the actual setup rather than assuming a process manager or provider restart tool will restore it correctly.
- Monitor after launch. Watch the Live Control Room’s stream health and confirm that the encoder process, playlist, and outbound transfer remain active. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.
No particular Indian provider or VPS plan is established as suitable here. Compare the plan’s sustained outbound throughput, monthly transfer and overage behavior, acceptable-use and long-running-process rules, region and route to YouTube ingest, restart and recovery tooling, recording storage, support, and total cost before committing.
Design around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not treat one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast as a reliable way to produce a complete YouTube archive. If an archive matters, end and restart sessions before they cross 12 hours, and retain a separate recording if you have the rights, storage, and operational capacity to do so. Recurring shorter events can support a continuous-channel goal, but the exact transition and viewing experience depend on the account and setup. Trial the schedule and handoff before relying on it. A separate recording also gives you a recovery copy if an archive is incomplete, subject to the relevant rights.

If the stories are directed to children, set the audience honestly as Made for Kids in YouTube Studio. YouTube disables features on Made for Kids streams including live chat, live chat replay, Super Chat, comments on live archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications. Personalized ads are disabled, although contextual ads may still appear. Do not build the format around live chat or forecast personalized advertising. YouTube also identifies copyright claims or strikes and other policy violations as reasons livestream access may be restricted. See YouTube’s live-stream restrictions.

YouTube’s kids and family quality guidance says channels primarily targeting young audiences or classified as Made for Kids need to meet its quality principles. It gives heavily commercial or promotional low-quality content as an example that can lead to YPP suspension, and individual videos may receive limited or no ads. A looping schedule or high watch time does not guarantee monetization; treatment depends on the content and channel.
Troubleshooting common failures
