To stream an ocean-waves ambience video on YouTube around the clock, prepare footage and audio you are licensed to use, set up an encoder livestream in YouTube Studio, and keep the encoder, power, and internet connection running. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports a prepared audiovisual feed, but the exact method for looping a prerecorded file depends on the encoder you choose.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube states that streamers must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Ocean video and sound with licenses that allow your intended livestream. Check the terms for each asset and keep records of permissions; ocean ambience is not automatically free to reuse.
- An encoder that can send your prepared video and audio to YouTube, plus a dependable upstream connection and power for as long as you want to remain live.
YouTube lists encoder streaming as an option for sending video feeds and using production hardware. For prerecorded ambience, this is the relevant workflow to investigate. A dedicated computer, including a mini PC, can host the encoder, but YouTube does not require a particular computer or form factor.
Prepare and configure the ocean program
Check the media and the loop
Use footage and audio you are authorized to livestream. Before launch, check that the ending and beginning can repeat without an obvious jump, silence, or abrupt change in wave sound. How you configure a repeated file is encoder-specific; YouTube’s official guidance explains encoder livestreaming but does not prescribe a file-loop recipe.
Use a representative section of the program for testing, including the actual audio and the amount of visual movement viewers will see. A calm ocean scene may have little motion, but test the real content rather than a static placeholder.

Choose settings for a stable feed
Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate according to your source and the connection’s reliable upload capacity. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds). It lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 for video and AAC or MP3 for audio. For H.264, its recommended bitrate table gives 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommendations, not guaranteed quality outcomes. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for the current resolution and frame-rate table.
Run a speed test, but do not rely on a single result alone: choose settings that the connection can sustain reliably, then test the actual feed before going public.

Start the YouTube livestream
- Verify the channel and confirm you are eligible to go live, including checking for any restriction that blocks livestreaming.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room to create or set up the live event. Select the encoder route and follow the current Studio prompts; interface labels can change.
- Copy the stream key and ingestion details shown for the event into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share it, and use the current Studio details rather than old screenshots or saved credentials you cannot verify.
- In the encoder, select the ocean video and audio, configure the supported output settings, and start sending the feed. YouTube’s Live Streaming API guide distinguishes the incoming stream from the viewer-facing broadcast: a broadcast is a separate YouTube video bound to a stream.
- Wait for YouTube to receive the encoder feed, review the preview and stream-health messages, then start the public broadcast in the Live Control Room when ready.
For context, YouTube describes a broadcast as an event viewers can watch as it happens, with each broadcast represented by a distinct YouTube video. Its API documentation also describes an ongoing 24/7 broadcast model. That explains the platform’s broadcast model; it does not configure a prerecorded file loop for you.
Keep the stream running and plan for failures
A 24/7 broadcast depends on the encoder host, internet connection, and power continuing to work. If you run the encoder locally, plan how you will detect and recover from a dropped connection, power loss, computer restart, or encoder failure. YouTube’s stream-health guidance helps identify feed problems, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted connectivity or prescribe a particular failover setup. Monitor the Live Control Room and respond to its health messages. See YouTube’s guidance on encoder settings and stream health.

Common problems and fixes
- You cannot go live: check channel verification, the channel’s live-stream status, and the minimum age requirement in YouTube’s eligibility guidance.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: confirm that the encoder is running and that the stream key and ingestion details match the current event in Studio. If you exposed the key, replace it rather than continuing to use a compromised credential.
- Health warnings or an unstable feed: reduce output demands or choose a more reliable connection/settings combination, then test again with the actual video and audio. Check the encoder’s output against YouTube’s recommended bitrate, keyframe, protocol, and codec guidance.
- The video or audio stops at the end of the file: confirm that the encoder is configured to repeat the source. Looping behavior depends on the encoder; YouTube’s platform documentation does not supply a universal looping setting.
- A copyright or policy issue appears: review the rights for the exact footage and sound and make sure the broadcast follows YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube may restrict livestreams; possessing a copy of a file does not itself grant livestream rights.

YouTube requires livestreams to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service and reserves the right to restrict streams. Check the license for every visual and audio element before broadcasting, including any music or sound recording in an ambience track. YouTube’s platform guidance does not establish whether a particular ocean recording is licensed for your use.
