How to Stream a 24/7 Recorded Medical School Lecture Playlist on YouTube

To stream recorded medical school lectures continuously on YouTube, create a YouTube Live event and send it a feed from a looping encoder, standalone device, or cloud service. An ordinary YouTube playlist does not become a live broadcast on its own. Prepare the videos and confirm broadcast rights, connect the playback method to YouTube with the event’s server URL and stream key, test the preview, then monitor the feed and plan how to recover from interruptions.

Choose how the lectures will play

The right method depends on whether you can leave equipment running and how much control you need over scheduling and recovery. YouTube’s encoder guide identifies several routes, but the specific looping and scheduling controls depend on the tool you choose.

Method What it can do What to verify
StreamNeo cloud service Streams uploaded videos to YouTube continuously from the cloud, with looping and playlists; no home computer needs to stay on. Confirm that the uploaded lecture files fit the available pooled storage and that your intended playback order is set before going live. See StreamNeo.
Local software encoder Can send a feed from a computer; YouTube documents encoder-based streaming generally. OBS is listed as supporting HLS output. Do not assume an encoder automatically schedules or loops a folder of videos. Check the specific software’s current playlist, looping, and recovery controls. The computer, power, and network must remain available.
Standalone encoder YouTube identifies the AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Check current device availability, supported media, scheduling behavior, and terms with the manufacturer before purchase.
Another cloud service YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-streaming option. Confirm current features, compatibility, terms, and price with the provider; YouTube’s listing does not establish those details.

Compare options by whether they can loop or schedule files, whether a local device must remain running, how they reconnect after a fault, what monitoring they provide, and how they handle stream breaks and archive segments. The available YouTube guidance does not establish a head-to-head reliability assessment or current prices for the alternatives.

Prepare the lecture playlist and channel

Arrange and clear the files

  • Put the lectures in the intended order and check that the selected service or encoder can play them in that sequence and repeat them as required. Looping is tool-dependent, not a universal YouTube playlist setting.
  • Confirm you have permission to broadcast every recording and the material within it, including slides, images, and music. Educational purpose alone does not establish permission.
  • Decide whether the lectures are for a public audience, a private class, or an unlisted audience, and choose the YouTube event privacy accordingly.
  • Tell viewers who the lectures are intended for and whether they are educational material rather than individualized clinical advice. This is useful audience context, not a special YouTube streaming requirement.

Check live-stream eligibility

YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions within the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before the planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility instructions.

Create the YouTube Live event and connect playback

  1. Create or schedule the event: In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Set its title, description, audience-facing privacy, and other event details. Consider whether to enable DVR if viewers should be able to rewind while the broadcast is live.
  2. Copy the connection details: Open the event’s encoder or stream settings and copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the selected encoder or service. YouTube describes the stream key as the encoder’s password and address; keep it private. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the connected encoder.
  3. Set up the file playback: Add the lecture files in order and enable the provider’s loop or schedule function if available. Check that the end of the playlist behaves as intended, including what happens after the last lecture.
  4. Test before publishing: Send a test feed and check the Live Control Room preview. Verify audio, picture, lecture order, and that viewers can open the event from its watch page and on mobile. Check that any local recording or archive file is being created and growing as expected.
  5. Start with time to spare: YouTube advises setting up encoders at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting them at least 15 minutes before it. These are operational recommendations, not guarantees of connection or processing time.
  6. Monitor the running stream: Keep an eye on audio and video, the watch page, and the playback source. Decide in advance who will respond to a failed encoder, power loss, network outage, or a YouTube interruption, and test any failover arrangement.

Use the right ingestion settings for the encoder

Follow the current YouTube preset for the encoder and protocol you actually use. The YouTube material cited here does not establish one universal resolution, bitrate, frame rate, or keyframe interval for every setup; use the encoder’s current YouTube-specific settings rather than copying values intended for a different protocol or service.

If the encoder uses HLS

YouTube’s HLS guidance specifies transport-stream segments lasting 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no encryption other than HTTPS. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than a continuous RTMP stream because it sends video in segments. Its HLS guidance lists OBS as an encoder that supports HLS output. These requirements matter only when the chosen encoder is sending HLS; use its current YouTube preset and verify its protocol selection.

Protect rights and plan for interruptions

Copyright checks can affect a live feed

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. A match can cause the stream to be replaced by a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated. If you have a licence but a stream is still interrupted, YouTube says to ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Previewing the feed does not replace getting permission for the underlying material. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

A 24-hour broadcast is not a guaranteed 24-hour archive

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise a complete archive for a longer uninterrupted stream. If a full recording matters, plan separate sessions shorter than 12 hours or make and verify a separate recording. A session break changes the live-event and archive plan, so test how your playback method resumes before relying on it.

Troubleshoot common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
The channel cannot start a live stream. The channel is not verified, has a live-stream restriction, or first-time activation is still processing. Check YouTube’s eligibility requirements and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
YouTube receives no encoder feed. The server URL or stream key is incorrect, the encoder is not sending, or the local connection or power has failed. Compare the encoder connection details with the current event in YouTube Studio, check the encoder’s sending status and network, and replace an exposed key by resetting it in Studio.
The wrong lecture plays or the playlist stops. Ordering, repeat behavior, or scheduling is controlled by the encoder or service rather than by the YouTube event. Inspect the playback queue and its end-of-list behavior, then run a full test through the transition where the problem occurs.
The stream is interrupted after a copyright match. A recording, slide, image, soundtrack, or other third-party content triggered a match. Review permissions and identify the matching material. If it is licensed, ask the rights holder about allowlisting the channel through Content ID.
A long stream has no complete YouTube archive. The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s stated automatic-archive threshold for streams under 12 hours. Use shorter sessions if the YouTube archive is essential, or keep and verify a separate recording.
The picture or audio is missing, unstable, or not as expected. The playback file, encoder output, connection, or selected protocol settings may be wrong. Check the source file and encoder preview, confirm the YouTube preset and protocol, and monitor the Live Control Room and watch page during a test.
