You can use a spare PC as an encoder to keep a relaxation stream running on YouTube, provided the channel is eligible, the computer and upload connection can sustain your chosen settings, and you have rights to everything in the broadcast. One important limit: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Plan separately for continuous live availability and preserving a replay.
Decide whether you need a continuous stream, a replay, or both
A single live broadcast can stay on air beyond a day if the PC, encoder, power, and internet connection keep working. That does not mean YouTube will preserve the entire broadcast as a video afterward. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all (YouTube Help: archive live streams).
- If continuous availability is the priority: configure the PC and network for long-running operation, then monitor the stream.
- If a complete replay matters: make a local recording or plan shorter broadcast sessions and check YouTube’s current archive controls. A local recording needs enough storage and should be monitored too.
Do not assume an uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete 24-hour YouTube replay.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the stream in YouTube
YouTube’s encoder livestream setup requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then connect your encoder using the stream URL and stream key (YouTube Help: stream with an encoder).

- Verify eligibility: sign in to the channel and complete YouTube’s verification process if needed. Check for restrictions before planning an always-on broadcast.
- Create the stream: in YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to reach Live Control Room. Choose the encoder stream workflow and set the title, description, audience, and visibility.
- Copy the connection details: copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password; do not share or publish it.
- Start with a test: use an unlisted or private test if appropriate for your channel, start the encoder, and wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health information before making the broadcast public.
- Go live and monitor: confirm the watch page works, audio is audible, and Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming feed.
YouTube’s controls can change. Check the current Live Control Room labels and prompts when setting up the stream.
Choose video and network settings your PC can sustain
There is no universally correct resolution or bitrate for an unspecified spare PC and internet connection. Begin with a setting the computer can encode without overheating or dropping frames and the internet connection can upload consistently. YouTube’s encoder guide provides recommended settings by resolution and frame rate; use its current table for the exact bitrate row that matches your output rather than guessing (YouTube Help: encoder settings).

- Protocol: use RTMPS where the encoder supports it, as YouTube recommends it.
- Rate control: set constant bitrate (CBR) for the encoder output.
- Keyframes: set the keyframe interval to two seconds, YouTube’s recommended interval.
- Resolution and frame rate: select an output appropriate to the relaxation visuals and the PC’s encoding capability. Higher settings increase the required bitrate and workload; choose stable output over a nominally higher resolution.
- Upload headroom: compare the stream’s total bitrate with measured upload capacity, not download speed. Leave capacity for normal network variation and other devices, and test while the household network is in realistic use.
Run a representative test with the intended audio and visuals. Watch for dropped frames, encoder overload, unstable stream health, clipping or inaudible audio, and interruptions. If problems appear, reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and test again.
Keep the spare PC running safely
For a long broadcast, configure the computer and encoder deliberately rather than relying on default power settings.

- Disable sleep and hibernation for the period the stream must remain live; retain sensible thermal and electrical protections.
- If your encoder supports it, configure it to start again after an unexpected reboot. Confirm that recovery behavior with a test rather than assuming it works.
- Monitor encoder status, temperatures, disk space if recording locally, and upload stability.
- Use a wired network connection if available for a simpler, generally steadier link. YouTube’s guidance is to ensure reliable bandwidth; Ethernet is a practical choice, not a stated platform requirement.
A desktop UPS for the PC and router is optional and can help with short power interruptions. Choose capacity based on their combined load and the runtime you need. A UPS cannot guarantee 24/7 service, and it will not solve an ISP outage unless the network equipment and upstream connection remain available.
Estimate electricity costs using your own bill and measured load
There is no defensible single monthly electricity estimate for this setup without knowing the PC’s actual power draw, state, utility, tariff category, and applicable charges. India’s electricity distribution and tariffs vary by state and utility: the Ministry of Power describes electricity as a concurrent subject and says supply and distribution are within the purview of the respective state government or distribution utility (Press Information Bureau, March 23, 2026). The Central Electricity Authority publishes tariff and duty material by state (CEA tariff and duty reports).

- Measure the PC’s power draw while it is encoding, ideally over a representative period with a plug-in power meter.
- Check the applicable energy rate and charges on your latest bill or utility tariff schedule.
- Estimate energy use as average watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by hours operated; apply your local billing rate and charges to that usage.
This is an estimate, not a guaranteed bill amount: actual consumption and tariff treatment depend on your equipment and utility.

Use original or properly licensed music, ambience, sound effects, footage, animation, and artwork. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the relevant rights, including applicable music licensing rights, for live content and any replay (YouTube Terms of Service). Attribution or the fact that an ambience recording is publicly available does not, by itself, grant permission to livestream or archive it. Check that the license covers the uses you intend, including livestreaming, replay, territory, and duration.

Rights permission and monetization eligibility are different questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams; repetitive or mass-produced content may be considered inauthentic, while reused content is assessed separately (YouTube channel monetization policies). A looped sound bed or visual is not automatically eligible for monetization, and no particular channel outcome can be promised.
Troubleshoot common failures
