Start with footage and audio you own or are authorized to broadcast, enable live streaming on your channel, then configure and test the encoder before going live.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists encoder streaming as an option for creators who want to stream with encoder software. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview.
- A rain or thunderstorm video and audio track that you created or have permission to broadcast on YouTube. Permission to use a track does not by itself guarantee that YouTube’s automated matching will not interrupt a live stream.
- An encoder, such as OBS, plus a computer, stable power and an upload connection that can sustain the settings you choose.
- Your YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, include it in a public post or share it with anyone who does not need access.
The steps below use English interface names because the current YouTube and OBS help pages cited here do not establish the exact Hindi menu labels. You can follow the sequence while using a Hindi-language interface, but label wording may differ.
Prepare a rights-cleared rain ambience scene
- Choose the source material. Use your own storm footage and recording, or material whose license expressly permits live broadcasting on YouTube. Check whether the permission covers both picture and sound, and whether it has conditions such as attribution or restrictions on monetization.
- Build a scene in your encoder. Add the video or image source and the authorized audio. For a long ambience broadcast, make sure the source can continue playing or looping as intended; check the encoder’s own help for the exact source settings, since configurations vary.
- Listen and watch a representative section. Check for unwanted silence, clipping, abrupt loop points, black frames, frozen video and audio that does not match the scene. Do not assume a local preview proves the internet stream is healthy.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match that remains in the broadcast, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it or end it. Even licensed material may require the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruptions. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Enable the stream and connect your encoder
- Enable live streaming. Complete channel verification and confirm that your channel has no live-streaming restriction from the preceding 90 days. If live access is not available yet, resolve that before planning a continuous broadcast.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a live stream or schedule one and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s interface may change, so use the current Live Control Room prompts rather than relying on an outdated menu path.
- Copy the stream URL and key. Enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings. Keep the key private and verify that you selected the intended YouTube stream before starting.
- Set the encoder, test, then start. Apply the settings below, send a test signal and check YouTube’s stream-health status before making the stream public. When the picture and sound are stable, start the broadcast from the encoder and confirm the live preview in YouTube Studio.
Choose sustainable video and audio settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds; do not set an interval longer than 4 seconds. The H.264 bitrate values below are YouTube recommendations, not a promise that your connection can sustain them. Test your upload connection and choose a quality with headroom rather than running at the edge of its capacity.

These recommendations are from YouTube’s encoder guidance accessed October 3, 2026. They are not measurements of a particular connection. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for audio over RTMP/RTMPS. For the full current recommendations and other resolutions, consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions guide.
- Use RTMPS where supported, CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval.
- Test with the actual video and audio you intend to broadcast, not a static test screen alone.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages during the test and broadcast. A bitrate recommendation cannot compensate for unstable upload, network loss or a computer that sleeps or shuts down.
Plan for the 12-hour archive limit
Around-the-clock viewing and automatic archiving are not the same thing. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a replay matters, schedule shorter sessions that end before 12 hours and make a local recording as a backup. Neither shorter sessions nor a local recording guarantees that the viewer-facing broadcast will continue without a gap when one session ends and another begins.

YouTube recommends a local archive as a backup. An external drive can be used for that recording if it suits your setup, but YouTube does not specify a required drive type, capacity or brand. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
What “24/7” requires from a local setup
With a DIY encoder, the source file, encoder computer, power and network all need to remain available for the stream to keep running. Sleep settings, operating-system restarts, encoder crashes, router interruptions or a power cut can stop it. A local setup gives you direct control over the files and local recording, but you need a way to monitor and restart the stream after a failure. The sources cited here do not establish a particular OBS configuration or guarantee continuous uptime.

OBS provides an official Help Portal for streaming and encoder troubleshooting. Use the documentation for the OBS version you have installed when configuring sources or diagnosing an encoder-specific issue.
Monetization is a separate question from copyright
A video or sound recording can be properly licensed yet still raise a monetization-policy issue. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 clarification says repetitive or mass-produced material falls under “inauthentic content”; highly repetitive, interchangeable videos with little creative, educational or other value may be ineligible. Reused content is assessed separately and needs meaningful added value, such as significant original commentary, substantive modification or educational or entertainment value. A static or minimally changed rain loop therefore carries monetization risk, but that does not mean every ambient stream is automatically ineligible. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and do not treat permission from a rights holder as a guarantee of monetization eligibility.

DIY encoder or a cloud service?
A local encoder gives you hands-on control and direct access to local recordings, but depends on your own computer, power and connection remaining available. A hosted service can run uploaded video from the cloud instead; consider file ownership and permissions, how you will monitor interruptions, archive needs and cost before choosing either approach. Troubleshooting common failures

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I broadcast a rain video I found on YouTube?
Only if you have the rights needed to rebroadcast its video and audio. A public YouTube upload is not permission, and live Content ID matching can interrupt a stream.
Does a 24/7 rain stream automatically qualify for monetization?
No. YouTube evaluates live streams under its monetization policies, and repetitive or minimally changed ambience content may be at risk under its inauthentic-content rules.
