Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can run a 24/7 devotional YouTube stream from an OVHcloud VPS by keeping media on the server, using FFmpeg to send a compatible feed to YouTube Live over RTMPS, and supervising the process so failures are noticed and handled. YouTube requires an eligible channel and a stream key; the exact OVHcloud VPS size depends on whether FFmpeg must encode video, how many streams you run, and the media and network demands. Plan YouTube replay preservation separately: a stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived.
How the setup works
The VPS hosts the media and FFmpeg process. FFmpeg either encodes source media or passes compatible streams through, then publishes to the ingest address and stream key from YouTube Studio. YouTube processes the incoming feed for viewers. The VPS must sustain the outgoing feed; YouTube handles viewer-side delivery and transcoding.
This guide assumes the source is prerecorded devotional media, not a live camera or microphone. Keep the rights-cleared audio, video, and artwork available on the VPS, and decide in advance whether the server will transcode or stream-copy them. A seamless, continuous loop depends on the actual files and workflow; it is not guaranteed by FFmpeg alone.
Check YouTube Live eligibility and prepare the stream
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube’s get-started guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. Check the current requirements in YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Create or select the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the stream’s encoder settings in Live Control Room and copy its server URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current Studio workflow.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not put it in public configuration, screenshots, shared command history, or logs. Restrict access to the VPS configuration and rotate the key in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Use the encoder controls to finish. YouTube’s setup instructions say to stop sending content from the encoder to end a stream. Confirm the event state in Live Control Room rather than assuming a stopped FFmpeg process has ended the YouTube event as intended.
Choose the ingest and encoding settings
Prefer RTMPS for ordinary live ingestion
YouTube recommends RTMPS. It sends RTMP through an SSL connection, encrypting the feed to Google’s servers. Google’s ingest documentation requires the RTMPS scheme, a valid YouTube endpoint and app path, and port 443; use the full server URL provided for the stream rather than constructing one from memory. See Google’s ingestion protocol guide.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube also documents HLS ingestion for cases such as HDR or codecs unavailable through RTMP(S); HLS has higher latency. For the ordinary prerecorded devotional feed described here, RTMPS is the straightforward documented choice. Consult YouTube’s current guidance if your format or latency requirements differ.
Match output to YouTube and the VPS
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. Choose resolution and bitrate from the current YouTube table and verify that the VPS can sustain the selected output. Do not copy a generic bitrate into an FFmpeg command without checking the media, target settings, and available CPU and network capacity. YouTube recommends testing representative audio and motion before going live and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

Decide between transcoding and stream copy
- Transcoding: FFmpeg encodes the source into the selected YouTube-compatible profile. This provides control over output settings but uses CPU continuously; the required capacity depends on resolution, frame rate, codec, and any concurrent streams.
- Stream copy or remux: FFmpeg passes compatible encoded audio and video through, potentially changing the container without re-encoding. This avoids the encoding workload, but only works if the input codecs and stream structure are acceptable to YouTube and the loop behaves correctly.
Inspect the actual files and test the chosen mode before relying on it. The right mode, exact command, and loop behavior cannot be determined without the media and a test of the deployment.
Deploy FFmpeg as a supervised service
- Prepare the VPS. Install a supported operating system and FFmpeg, place media in a controlled directory, and restrict account and file permissions. Keep credentials outside publicly readable files and avoid logging the stream key.
- Configure the feed. Use the stream’s current RTMPS server URL and key from YouTube Studio. Set the encoding or stream-copy mode to match the source and YouTube’s current settings; do not assume an example command will suit different media.
- Run it under a service manager or supervisor. Configure the operating system to detect an unexpected FFmpeg exit and restart it, with logs sufficient to diagnose failures. A restart is not a promise of seamless recovery: check Live Control Room and the active event after a disconnect or process restart.
- Add operational monitoring. Monitor process state, VPS reachability, stream health in YouTube Live Control Room, disk space for any local recordings, and notifications for disconnects. Review logs without exposing the key.
- Test before committing to continuous operation. Send representative content, check audio and movement, verify the ingest and viewer output, and test what happens after an FFmpeg exit or network interruption. Confirm that alerts reach someone who can respond.
Size the OVHcloud VPS from the workload
There is no universally correct OVHcloud tier established for this setup. The choice depends on whether the VPS transcodes in software, the source and output resolution and frame rate, the number of simultaneous streams, media storage, any local archive, and continuous upload demand. Before selecting a plan, check its current regional availability, CPU, RAM, storage, network terms, and price directly with OVHcloud’s VPS terms and contract information. That contract index does not establish the performance or suitability of a particular tier.

- For transcoding, validate sustained CPU capacity using the intended codec and settings rather than choosing by a brief peak specification alone.
- For stream copy, check that the VPS can read the source files and sustain the outgoing feed; the lower encoding burden does not remove network or availability requirements.
- Budget storage for media plus any separate recording, and plan retention so a growing archive cannot fill the system disk.
- Account for the operational work of updates, monitoring, key protection, and recovery; a VPS does not remove those responsibilities.
Protect music rights and plan for YouTube interruptions
Rights must cover every included song, recording, performance, reading, artwork, and video. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the content provider to represent that it holds the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including applicable music licensing rights. A religious purpose, purchase, public-domain composition, or license label does not by itself establish that a particular recording and use are cleared in every territory. Check the work, recording, territory, and license scope. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match may trigger a placeholder image, warning, interruption, or termination. If material is licensed, its rights owner may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID; a license alone may not prevent an interruption. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Do not rely on one continuous stream as your only archive
YouTube Help states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” The same archive guidance warns that a stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a dependable single replay file. If a replay matters, record locally and separately test file integrity, storage growth, and retention. See the YouTube live stream archive guidance.
One continuous stream favors uninterrupted live availability, while shorter scheduled broadcasts can create more manageable archive segments but require planned resets and reconnects. Choose the schedule around the channel’s archive and operating needs; do not assume YouTube will preserve a complete 24/7 VOD.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the feed | Wrong stream key or server URL, an inactive or ineligible stream, or a blocked connection | Recheck the current values in YouTube Studio, channel eligibility, and VPS network access to the RTMPS endpoint on port 443. Keep the key private while troubleshooting. |
| Stream health warns of poor input | Output settings do not match YouTube guidance, or the VPS/network cannot sustain the feed | Review codec, CBR, keyframe interval, resolution and bitrate against YouTube’s current settings; inspect server load and network condition; test a representative source again. |
| Broadcast stops after an interruption | FFmpeg exited or the VPS lost connectivity; an automatic process restart may not restore the same event seamlessly | Check supervisor and FFmpeg logs, restart only with the correct event configuration, then confirm the event state and incoming feed in Live Control Room. |
| Live content is interrupted or replaced | YouTube detected a possible third-party content match or another policy issue | Review YouTube’s notice and the rights for the exact recording and included assets; if licensed, ask the rights owner whether channel allowlisting through Content ID is required. |
| Replay is missing or incomplete | The continuous stream exceeded YouTube’s archive window, or local recording failed | Use a separately monitored local recording when preservation matters, and test storage capacity, file integrity, and retention before depending on it. |
| FFmpeg cannot loop cleanly | Source codecs, container boundaries, timestamps, or file characteristics may not support the chosen loop method | Inspect and test the actual media; choose a compatible transcode or stream-copy approach and verify transitions before unattended operation. |
