To run a 24/7 YouTube lo-fi channel, prepare a rights-cleared video-and-audio program, create a YouTube Live broadcast, and send it continuously from an encoder. You can loop the program in OBS on a computer you keep running, or use cloud playout so playback does not depend on a home computer. Before launching, enable live streaming, test the full loop, and confirm that your music and visuals are cleared for YouTube live use.
How a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream works
YouTube Live receives a live feed from an encoder. For a prerecorded lo-fi channel, the encoder plays the prepared program—music with its accompanying visuals—and sends that output to the broadcast viewers watch. The video file itself is not simply uploaded as a live broadcast; the encoder must remain connected and playing.
YouTube describes a live stream as an incoming stream associated with a broadcast. Its Live Streaming API documentation also explains that a completed broadcast can be converted into a video, but that does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete replay. If a full archive matters to your channel, check YouTube’s current guidance before promising viewers a VOD. Google for Developers: LiveStreams
Choose where the loop will run
| Approach | Where playback runs | Main advantage | Main dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local computer with an encoder such as OBS | On a computer you maintain | Direct control and potential use of equipment you already own | The computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available |
| Cloud playout | On a hosted service | No dedicated streaming computer needs to stay on at home | The selected service and its connection to YouTube must remain available |
The reviewed official and practical sources do not establish a general price or reliability winner between local and cloud operation. Your choice is primarily about whether you want to maintain the playback computer yourself or have a hosted service run the feed.

Prepare the lo-fi program and clear its rights
Build a continuous, intentional playlist
Decide what viewers will hear and see over time: a playlist of tracks, a visual loop, and how those elements transition. Check the finished program end-to-end, including the transition from its final item back to the beginning. A stream that technically repeats but has gaps, abrupt level changes, or a frozen visual is not a polished 24/7 channel.
Document permission for every element
Keep a track list and records showing the relevant rights for each musical and visual element. Confirm that permission covers live streaming on YouTube, the territories where you intend to reach viewers, and monetized use if you plan to monetize. A license does not necessarily prevent a live interruption: YouTube scans live broadcasts for matches to third-party content, and a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the owner or distributor whether allowlisting is required and confirm it before launch. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

YouTube for Artists also recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using protected music in a live stream. Keep that conversation and any permission documentation available in case a claim or interruption needs investigation. YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels
Enable YouTube Live and create the broadcast
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-stream restriction during the preceding 90 days. If this is your first broadcast, enable live streaming well ahead of launch: YouTube for Artists advises allowing at least 24 hours. Check the current requirements in YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Create a broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Set up the event and obtain its stream key and ingestion details. Match the broadcast you intend to use with the encoder; sending a feed to a different event will not make the intended broadcast live.
- Connect your encoder using the supplied ingestion details. Keep the stream key private. YouTube documents RTMPS as RTMP carried through an SSL connection; use a protocol supported by your encoder and the ingestion details YouTube provides. See Google for Developers: Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS.
Run the loop locally with OBS
OBS is one self-managed option for playing a prepared program into YouTube Live. Menu labels and playback behavior can change across OBS versions, so use the current OBS help material for setup and connection troubleshooting. OBS recommends its Auto-Configuration Wizard for initial settings. OBS Project Help Portal

- Install and open OBS on the computer that will run the stream. This computer and its internet connection need to remain available for the duration of a local 24/7 broadcast.
- Configure the scene. Add the prerecorded video or media source and make sure its audio is included. Set the source to loop if the program is a single file. If you are using multiple files, arrange them as a playlist or use a playback method that advances through the items and repeats the sequence.
- Check the whole cycle. Listen for silent gaps, clipping, or inconsistent levels. Watch the end-to-start transition and confirm that the image does not freeze or disappear when the source restarts.
- Set up YouTube as the streaming destination. Use OBS’s streaming configuration with the stream key and server/ingestion details from the intended YouTube Live broadcast. Do not share the key or place it in public overlays, descriptions, or screenshots.
- Start with an unlisted test. YouTube for Artists recommends testing, especially for a high-investment broadcast. Confirm that the correct broadcast receives the feed, playback is continuous, and audio and visuals are present before making the stream public. OBS’s help portal provides links for stream-quality and connection issues.
- Launch and monitor. Start the broadcast from the appropriate YouTube Live workflow and check YouTube Studio for connection status, interruptions, copyright warnings, or strikes. A successful opening does not prove that every track is cleared for the full run.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos as a live stream. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. - Confirm the test is attached to the intended YouTube broadcast and that the encoder remains connected.
- Listen and watch through a full playlist cycle, not just the opening minutes.
- Review YouTube Studio for interruptions, copyright warnings, or strikes, and follow up with the relevant rights owner or distributor if needed.
- Do not promise a full archive of a continuous 24/7 stream based only on YouTube’s documentation that completed broadcasts can be converted to videos; the reviewed API material does not settle replay behavior for one stream running beyond 12 hours. Google for Developers: LiveStreams
Copyright, monetization, and audience expectations
Rights clearance and YouTube monetization are separate
Having permission to use music does not itself guarantee YouTube Partner Program eligibility. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and require original, authentic content; repetitive or mass-produced programming may be ineligible. Review YouTube channel monetization policies before building a channel around a highly repetitive format.

Live features and ad revenue are not guaranteed
Eligible channels may be able to use ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships where available. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Its January 2024 report across 207 countries found creators who chose automatic live mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour. That is YouTube’s reported comparison, not a forecast or guarantee for an individual channel. See YouTube Help: Monetize your live stream.
YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That broad platform figure is not a lo-fi-specific audience estimate and does not predict how many people will watch a particular channel. YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting common launch problems
| Symptom | Likely issue to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live broadcast | The channel may not meet YouTube’s verification or restriction requirements, or live streaming may not yet be enabled. | Check eligibility in YouTube Help and allow the recommended advance time for first-time enablement. |
| YouTube receives no encoder feed | The encoder may be using the wrong stream key, ingestion details, or broadcast. | Compare the encoder destination with the Live Control Room details for the event you intend to stream; keep the key private. |
| Audio or visuals stop at the loop boundary | The source may not be set to repeat correctly, or the playlist may not advance continuously. | Test a complete cycle and adjust the source or playlist playback method before going public. |
| The live stream is interrupted by a copyright issue | A track or visual may match third-party content, or the channel may not be allowlisted even when it has a license. | Review the warning, verify the scope of your permission, and ask the rights owner or distributor about Content ID allowlisting. |
| The local stream stops when unattended | The computer, encoder, or home connection may have become unavailable. | Check the computer’s power and connection setup, then review OBS’s stream-quality and connection troubleshooting guidance. If you do not want to maintain an always-on computer, consider cloud playout. |
