For a do-it-yourself setup, verify live-stream access, prepare video and audio you have rights to use, connect an encoder to a YouTube stream key, and test playback and recovery before going public. A 24/7 stream needs regular monitoring, and YouTube may not archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours.
Choose how to keep the stream running
YouTube’s encoder workflow lets you send a prerecorded feed as a live stream. You can run the encoder on your own computer, or use a cloud service designed to play uploaded videos continuously. YouTube lists OBS as open-source streaming software and also lists a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; those listings establish available options, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service or a comparison of performance and price. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection workflow, and its streaming tips cover testing and operational checks.
- Local encoder: You control playback and files, but the computer, encoder process, and network connection must remain available. Plan for what happens after a restart, file ending, or network interruption.
- Cloud playback: A service runs the uploaded-video stream remotely, so a home computer does not need to stay on. Check its playback, recovery, monitoring, storage, and pricing details before relying on it.
Prepare the channel, videos, and rights
Confirm YouTube live access
Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it and confirm access well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Use material cleared for the whole stream
Prepare a sequence of meditation visuals and audio that your playback workflow can repeat. Keep records showing that you have rights for the intended use, territories, and any archive use. YouTube’s live-stream terms make the creator responsible for having necessary rights worldwide, including applicable music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other rights participants. Permission alone may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube scans active streams for third-party matches. If you have a license for third-party material, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Without that step, YouTube may interrupt a stream even when you hold a license. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and test the production feed well before depending on it.
Make your authorship clear
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube says reused content with minimal changes may violate its monetization policy even when the creator has permission. A loop of stock visuals or someone else’s soundtrack is not automatically eligible for monetization. Make your original work and contribution evident, and check the current YouTube channel monetization policies before applying to or relying on the YouTube Partner Program.

Set up a prerecorded stream with an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream. Choose the stream type and enter its metadata. Schedule it if you want an upcoming listing and reminder option for viewers. YouTube’s live-stream settings guide covers available settings.
- Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. The key is the credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Treat it like a password; reset it if it is exposed.
- Set up continuous playback. Configure your encoder or playback workflow to repeat the intended prerecorded sequence. Decide what it should do when a source file ends, the host or encoder restarts, or the network drops. Do not assume that looping or reconnecting will work unattended until you have tested it.
- Start a private or otherwise controlled test and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the picture and sound, then verify that the event can be watched from your channel or watch page and on mobile. YouTube recommends testing before launch and checking both audio and video.
- Check local recording and recovery behavior. If you record locally, verify that the file opens and that its size is growing during the test. Test encoder failover and recovery from the failure cases you expect. YouTube documents encoder connection and general failover testing, but does not promise that any particular software setup will loop prerecorded video uninterrupted for 24 hours.
- Start the public stream and keep checking it. For a scheduled event, YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start so you can inspect the preview. For a continuous channel, use those checks as a launch routine and repeat health checks during operation.
Plan bandwidth, archiving, and viewer controls
Leave network headroom
YouTube recommends keeping 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the total streaming bitrate. This is operational guidance, not a performance guarantee. Check the actual outgoing stream and leave room for other network use rather than running the connection at its limit. YouTube’s streaming tips describe this headroom recommendation.
Keep your own archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 stream therefore should not rely on YouTube to preserve a full-day archive. Keep a local recording if preservation matters, and check that it is intact. YouTube’s archive guidance explains the limit. An external SSD can be an optional place to store source files or recordings; YouTube’s guidance does not establish a required capacity or brand.

Choose the experience viewers need
DVR can let viewers pause and rewind. For meditation, decide whether viewers should be able to resume at their own pace or whether they should return to the current live point, then check the stream’s current DVR setting. Scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, and viewers can opt in to notifications. See YouTube’s live-stream settings.
Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and has completed activation. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no feed: Confirm the encoder is using the stream URL and current key, and that the playback process is running. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
- The picture or sound stops: Check the source file and playback process, encoder status, and network connection. Test what happens after a file ends or the host restarts instead of assuming the sequence resumes.
- The stream is interrupted over a rights match: Review the material being played, verify the license covers the use, and ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel through Content ID where applicable. Permission does not itself ensure that a match will not interrupt the stream.
- The stream is unstable: Inspect YouTube’s stream health, check the local encoder and connection, and preserve the recommended upload-bandwidth headroom. YouTube’s tips also recommend monitoring sound and picture and checking that local recordings remain intact and grow as expected.
- A full-day replay is missing: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording when you need an archive.
