To keep a church prayer meeting playlist live on YouTube around the clock, send a prepared audio-and-video feed through an encoder such as OBS to a YouTube Live broadcast. For a local setup, keep the encoder computer and internet connection running, test the full playlist and restart procedure, and monitor the broadcast. Before going live, confirm that the church has the rights for every song and recording: YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may interrupt them.
What you need before setting up a 24/7 prayer stream
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says live-streaming access requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days; its help page also states the streamer must be at least 16 years old. Check the current requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming help page.
- An encoder that can send the playlist and a persistent visual to YouTube Live. YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output; the appropriate protocol depends on your encoder and configuration.
- A playlist and a visual that can remain on screen throughout the broadcast.
- Permission covering the music and recordings you plan to use, plus a plan to keep the encoder, network connection, and stream monitored.
A continuous stream is not guaranteed simply because it has been configured once. A local computer, internet connection, encoder, or YouTube ingest can fail, so test how you will detect and recover from an interruption before sharing the stream link.
Check music rights before you build the playlist
Permission to perform a worship song live does not necessarily include permission to play a commercial recording of it on YouTube. The Church of England’s guidance says its CCLI Streaming Licence covers live worship music for qualifying churches’ YouTube streams, but commercially available CDs or recordings require specific permission from the copyright holder; it also identifies One License as covering additional catalogs. The Church of England music guidance is specific to its context.
The Methodist Church likewise says its CCLI Streaming Licence is needed for YouTube or Facebook live worship in its context, while pre-recorded commercial tracks—such as a YouTube backing track, Spotify playlist, or CD—are not covered by that permission and generally require explicit rights-holder permission or another applicable licence. See the Methodist Church copyright guidance.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
These denomination- and territory-specific pages are not universal legal advice. Confirm the current licence terms, your country, the songs and arrangements in your catalog, and whether you will perform music live, play existing recordings, archive the broadcast, or embed it elsewhere. The United Methodist Church guidance, updated April 24, 2026, is another example of how rights can depend on the platform and exact use.
Make a rights check for every playlist item
- Identify whether each item is a live performance or an existing sound recording.
- Check that the licence or permission covers the specific song, recording, arrangement, platform, territory, and intended use.
- If you plan to keep an archive or reuse the stream elsewhere, confirm those uses separately.
- For licensed third-party material, ask the rights owner whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist before streaming.
Create the YouTube Live broadcast and connect your encoder
- Verify eligibility. Confirm the channel is verified and can livestream, and check that no current restriction blocks the planned broadcast. Follow YouTube’s current eligibility steps in YouTube Help.
- Create or schedule the live broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create a broadcast and use a clear title and description that tell viewers it is a continuous prayer or worship playlist.
- Select the stream key and ingest settings. Use the stream key and protocol details shown for that broadcast in Live Control Room. Enter them in your encoder according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it outside the people who operate the stream.
- Prepare the source. Load the playlist and choose a visual that can remain on screen. Confirm that playback proceeds through the whole playlist and loops as intended rather than stopping at the end.
- Start a private or otherwise limited test. Check both the encoder preview and the YouTube watch page, including audio, video, and transitions. Let the test run long enough to confirm the loop works and that the broadcast remains connected.
- Go live and monitor. Start the broadcast using the encoder and verify it is live on YouTube. Keep a person responsible for checking the feed and responding to dropped connections, playback failures, or copyright notices.
YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful for broadcasts with overlays and other customized production elements. The exact encoder controls differ, so use the current setup instructions for the protocol selected in Live Control Room rather than copying settings for a different ingest method.

Choose RTMP or HLS based on your encoder
RTMP and HLS are ingest options, not playlist formats. Use a protocol your encoder supports and follow the matching YouTube instructions. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments rather than as a continuous stream.
| Choice | What to consider | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| RTMP ingest | Encoder compatibility and latency | Do not apply HLS segment settings to an RTMP stream. Follow the RTMP details provided for the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. |
| HLS ingest | Encoder support and HLS-specific segment and playlist configuration | YouTube specifies TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, no byte-range support, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. See YouTube’s HLS setup instructions. |
| HLS backup ingest | Whether the encoder and workflow support a second ingest endpoint | YouTube’s HLS developer guide describes a backup ingestion URL. A backup endpoint does not itself guarantee an uninterrupted end-to-end broadcast. |
Understand YouTube’s copyright checks and interruptions
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it identifies third-party content, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn the creator to stop streaming that material. If it continues, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

A licence alone may not prevent an automated interruption. For licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Resolve that with the rights owner before launch, and keep a way to stop or replace a track if the stream receives a notice.
Keep a local 24/7 stream running and recover from failures
With a computer-based encoder, the operating plan matters as much as the initial setup. The computer must remain on, the playlist must keep playing, and the network and encoder must continue sending the feed. YouTube’s encoder documentation describes how to connect a broadcast; it does not guarantee a particular uninterrupted 24/7 operating design.

- Before launch: test a full playlist cycle, confirm the visual and audio remain present, and document how the operator will restart playback, the encoder, and the broadcast.
- During operation: monitor the YouTube watch page and encoder status. Assign responsibility for checking the stream and responding to an alert or interruption.
- If the feed stops: check whether the playlist ended, the encoder stopped, the local connection failed, or YouTube issued a copyright notice. Restore the relevant component, reconnect using the broadcast’s current stream key and ingest settings, and confirm the watch page is live again.
- For additional ingest redundancy: consider whether the encoder supports a backup ingest endpoint, but do not treat that as protection against failures elsewhere in the chain.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer or connection to be responsible for an always-on feed, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. It loops the uploaded material from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than separate quality tiers; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. You still need the necessary rights for every song and recording in your playlist.
