To keep a church service archive playing continuously on YouTube, upload recordings to a cloud streaming service that loops them and sends an encoder feed to YouTube. First confirm the channel can go live and that you have streaming rights for every part of the recordings. Then connect the service to YouTube, configure the viewer-facing stream, and test it. One important limit: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is not a dependable way to create a complete archive.
Before you start: check channel access and rights
Confirm YouTube live-streaming eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility before setting up a cloud provider; otherwise, the provider may be ready while YouTube cannot accept the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
Review every recording for rights and consent
Check the actual service recording, not just its video file or title. List worship music, lyrics, third-party video or audio, and identifiable participants. Confirm that permissions cover online live streaming, archived playback or rebroadcast, and the territories where viewers may watch. A license for one use, song, territory, or platform does not establish coverage for another.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it. Even if the church has a license, the rights holder may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to proceed without interruption. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and the congregation’s specific license terms. Church of Scotland guidance names CCLI and One Licence as options relevant to some church music uses, but the congregation must confirm its own coverage; see its live-streaming guidance.

Choose how to keep the broadcast running
Cloud streaming service
A cloud service plays uploaded recordings or a playlist from its servers and sends the feed to YouTube. A computer and home upload connection do not have to remain in the broadcast path. In exchange, you depend on the provider’s service, settings, and recovery behavior, and may pay a service fee. Confirm the provider’s current plan, stream duration limits, authorization method, and handling of interruptions before relying on it.
StreamNeo is the first cloud option to try: it keeps uploaded videos looping on YouTube from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day.

Local encoder
You can also send an encoder feed from a local computer and connection using YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. This avoids a cloud streaming-provider fee, but the computer, encoder, power, and upload connection must remain available for the broadcast. YouTube’s setup is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. The exact local encoder settings depend on the software and media; the supplied YouTube workflow identifies the stream URL and key, not universal bitrate or resolution settings.
Set up the YouTube broadcast
- Prepare the recordings. Select the services you have rights to stream and decide their playback order. Check that each file has usable picture and sound, and establish whether the service will loop a single recording or a playlist.
- Check the channel. Verify the channel and confirm there have been no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, as required by YouTube.
- Create the viewer-facing stream in YouTube Studio. Set the title, description, visibility, schedule, and other applicable stream details. Decide whether viewers should see it publicly, privately, or by an unlisted link, based on the congregation’s needs.
- Connect the cloud service as the encoder. Follow its current authorization flow or enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key where requested. Treat the key as a credential: share it only with authorized administrators and replace it if it is exposed. YouTube explains the encoder workflow at its setup page.
- Upload and configure playback. Add the selected recording or playlist, set the repeat behavior, and confirm which YouTube stream it will feed. Check who can start and stop playback and how access can be revoked.
- Test before announcing the stream. Check the provider’s preview or status, the public-facing YouTube watch page, video, audio, and stream health. Confirm that the correct visibility and schedule are in effect, and observe a restart or recovery procedure if the provider offers one.
Plan for continuity and a separate archive
Continuous viewing and complete recording are different goals. YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream that is less than 12 hours long; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is not a guarantee that every shorter broadcast will be archived, and a 24/7 stream should not be treated as a complete YouTube recording. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

If preserving each service matters, retain the source recording separately and arrange a backup recording or shorter broadcast segments. Before choosing a provider, ask how it handles stream restarts, segment rotation, and separate recordings. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup in its encoder guidance; a cloud playback service should not be assumed to create an independent preservation copy.

Troubleshoot common problems
YouTube will not accept the stream
- Likely cause: The channel is not verified or has had a live-stream restriction within the past 90 days.
- Fix: Check channel eligibility in YouTube before changing provider settings.
The broadcast starts but is interrupted or replaced
- Likely cause: YouTube detects third-party copyrighted content, including music or video in the service recording.
- Fix: Identify the matched material, confirm that permissions cover this stream and its territories, and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if needed. A license alone may not prevent automated interruption.
The stream is not visible to the congregation
- Likely cause: The stream’s visibility, schedule, or watch-page setup does not match the intended audience, or the provider is feeding a different stream.
- Fix: Check the YouTube watch page and Studio settings, then verify the provider is connected to the intended broadcast.
The stream stops when nobody is at the church
- Likely cause: A local encoder, computer, power source, or internet connection is no longer available.
- Fix: If using a local encoder, check those dependencies and the encoder’s status. If using a cloud service, check its feed status and documented restart or recovery process.
The continuous broadcast does not produce a complete recording
- Likely cause: The stream ran longer than YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold, beyond which YouTube warns it may not be captured at all.
- Fix: Keep the source recording independently and plan separate recording or shorter stream segments rather than relying on one 24/7 YouTube archive.
