You can stream videos stored in a cloud folder to YouTube Live nonstop, but the folder itself does not become a live playlist. Your computer or a hosted encoder must access the video files, play them in order or in a loop, and send that audio-video feed to YouTube. For a do-it-yourself setup, use Google Drive for desktop, OBS, and YouTube Live; the computer, file access, and network must remain available for the stream to continue.
What you need to make a cloud folder into a live stream
The workflow has three parts: storage, playback, and delivery. Google Drive stores the files; a player such as OBS selects and plays them; OBS sends the resulting feed to YouTube Live using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. YouTube distinguishes the viewer-facing broadcast from the incoming stream that carries audio and video. A Drive folder alone does not automatically create or update a YouTube playlist. Step 1: Make sure your YouTube channel can go live
YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Verify and enable live streaming well before your planned start, especially for a new channel. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio. YouTube live streaming tips
Step 2: Choose how the computer accesses the cloud files
Install and run Google Drive for desktop, then choose streaming or mirroring based on your disk space and reliability needs. Confirm that OBS can open the actual video files in the selected mode; some applications may have trouble playing files accessed through streaming.

Google notes that streaming and mirroring support varies by drive type. If you choose mirroring and need more local storage, an external drive is optional; it is not a requirement of the streaming workflow. Google Drive for desktop
Step 3: Build a looping source in OBS
For one video
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene you intend to stream.
- Select the video file from the Drive location available on your computer.
- Enable the source’s Loop control and confirm the media source is active in the scene.
- Preview the scene and let the video reach its end. Confirm it starts again before relying on it for a long broadcast.
For a playlist of videos
- Install VLC before configuring the source; OBS’s VLC Video source is available only when VLC is installed.
- Add a VLC Video source in OBS and build the playlist with the files you want played.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback restarts at the beginning after the queue ends.
- Preview the sequence through its final item and verify that it returns to the first. If you switch scenes, make sure the intended playback source remains active and behaves as expected.

Step 4: Connect OBS to a YouTube Live broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live broadcast you want viewers to see.
- Open the broadcast’s encoder settings and copy the provided stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings.
- Use the ingestion option appropriate to your setup; YouTube offers RTMPS as a secure encoder ingestion option.
- Treat the stream key and ingestion details like credentials. Do not show them in screenshots, share them, or include them in a public scene or recording.
The broadcast is the viewer-facing event; the stream is the incoming feed from OBS. Google’s API documentation says a stream can be reused for up to three broadcasts. Step 5: Test the entire path before depending on it
YouTube recommends preparing the encoder stream at least two hours before an event, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes ahead, checking the Live Control Room preview before going live, verifying the event is accessible, and continuously monitoring audio and video. These are preparation recommendations, not a promise of uptime. For a nonstop goal, test the full path—file access, playback, sound, picture, OBS output, and YouTube preview—and keep monitoring it. - Confirm each file opens and plays without stalls in the chosen Drive mode.
- Listen for audio throughout the playlist and check that the video is visible and correctly framed in the preview.
- Observe a complete loop, including the transition from the final playlist item back to the first.
- Check that the broadcast is accessible to the intended audience before leaving the setup unattended.
A loop setting repeats media; it does not guarantee that the computer, Drive access, network, OBS, or YouTube connection will stay up. The local method depends on those components continuing to work.
Step 6: Check rights before you broadcast
Having access to files in a cloud folder does not establish permission to retransmit them. YouTube’s livestream terms say providers represent that they have the necessary rights for exploitation of live content, including relevant music licensing rights, and require live content to comply with Community Guidelines. YouTube says a live stream can be terminated after a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for every video and its soundtrack before streaming it. Troubleshoot common failures
