To stream an animated fireplace continuously, loop a video you own or have permission to broadcast in OBS Studio, send the encoder feed to an eligible YouTube channel using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, and monitor the stream’s health. You can run OBS on a computer yourself, or use a cloud service such as StreamNeo to keep an uploaded video looping without leaving a computer on at home.
Before you set up the stream
Check YouTube Live access
YouTube’s published eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. Check access in the account you plan to use before preparing the broadcast. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the last minute. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
Clear rights to both picture and sound
Use a fireplace animation and audio that you created or are authorized to broadcast. Rights clearance needs to cover the complete video, including crackling fire, background music, and any other sound. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the feed with a placeholder and prompt a warning, and unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate the stream. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption: the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams and its Terms of Service.
Loop the fireplace video in OBS
Use a Media Source for one video

In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, such as “Fireplace,” and select the local video file.

Enable Loop in the Media Source properties so playback restarts when the file ends. Confirm the source is visible in the preview and fits the canvas as intended.

If the clip includes audio, check the OBS audio mixer while it plays. Make sure the source is neither muted nor unintentionally overpowering other audio. Test the end of the clip and the transition back to its beginning; a visible or audible gap will repeat each time the video loops.
Use a playlist for multiple clips
If you want several fireplace videos in rotation, add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist. Enable Loop Playlist so the list restarts after its final item. VLC must be installed for this source. OBS documents Media Source and VLC Video for Windows, macOS, and Linux in its media-source guidance.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. The key is a credential for sending your feed; treat it like a password. Do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s instructions for managing live-stream settings.

Set OBS to use the stream’s intended video and audio sources, then start the stream. Check the YouTube Studio preview before making the broadcast public or sharing it with viewers.
Choose encoder settings and test the full loop
YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and Rec. 709 color for SDR. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate based on the source file and a stable upload connection—there is no single bitrate that is right for every fireplace stream. YouTube transcodes the incoming feed for viewers on different devices and networks. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrates guidance for settings suited to your resolution and frame rate.

Use the source’s actual resolution and frame rate as a sensible starting point rather than enlarging or speeding up the material without a reason.

Test the entire video, including its ending and restart, before relying on the stream. Confirm both picture and sound in the YouTube preview.

Watch Live Control Room’s stream-health messages while broadcasting. A static scene can still expose upload or encoder problems, so do not assume low motion guarantees a stable feed.

For an unattended local setup, plan how the computer, OBS, and network will recover after a power loss, software failure, or connection interruption.

Plan around archives, rights, and monetization
Decide how long each broadcast session should run
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If preserving an archive matters, consider using sessions shorter than that threshold and confirm the current archive behavior in Studio before relying on a recording. A continuous channel can be maintained through successive sessions, but a single stream should not be assumed to produce a saved archive regardless of duration. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance covers its archive information.
Do not assume a loop will be monetized
Permission to use the animation and audio is separate from YouTube’s monetization review. Its policies apply to live streams and say repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible; reused-content review also considers whether a work adds meaningful original commentary, substantial modification, educational value, or entertainment value. A channel built around interchangeable loops may face policy review even when its assets are licensed. No particular fireplace loop is guaranteed to qualify. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a revenue plan around the stream.

Troubleshooting a continuous fireplace stream

The video stops at the end instead of restarting: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a VLC playlist, check Loop Playlist.

YouTube shows no incoming video: Confirm OBS has the correct stream URL and key for the stream created in Studio, and check the encoder preview and stream-health messages. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update OBS with the replacement.

The stream looks unstable or drops: Check the upload connection and OBS stream-health indicators. Revisit bitrate, resolution, and frame rate against the actual source and available connection; a bitrate that exceeds stable upload capacity can cause problems.

The stream is replaced or interrupted after a copyright match: Review the alert in Live Control Room. Verify rights for every video and audio element, including music and ambience, and contact the rights owner about channel allowlisting when applicable. Do not assume a purchase or license automatically prevents Content ID interruptions.

The first broadcast cannot be enabled immediately: Check channel eligibility and allow time for first-time live activation, which YouTube says may take up to 24 hours.
