You can run a Hindi news playlist as a YouTube Live stream from an Azure virtual machine by using an encoder that repeats the playlist, connecting it to a YouTube Live event with that event’s stream URL and key, and monitoring the stream for the full run. Before you start, confirm you have permission to rebroadcast every video and its audio, make sure the channel is eligible for live streaming, and budget for Azure storage and network costs as well as VM compute. A public video is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast.
Before you build the stream
Confirm rights to every item
Use videos and audio you own or have explicit permission to retransmit. YouTube’s live-stream terms require you to have the necessary rights for live and archived content and to comply with applicable law and licensing requirements in the stream territory. That matters for news footage, music, graphics and clips in a playlist—not just the main video. The particular broadcaster, territory and license for your playlist are not specified here, so you must confirm them with the relevant rights holder. YouTube’s terms state that creators warrant they have all necessary rights for the exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights and other royalty participants. This is a platform requirement, not a legal determination about your playlist.
Check the channel’s live-stream eligibility
The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says initial live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast rather than on launch day.
Decide how long each event should run
YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. If a continuous archive matters, plan individual stream events to stay under that duration, or keep a separate local recording path. Do not assume that a stream lasting 12 hours or longer will be archived in the same way.

Choose an encoder and plan the Azure VM
Use an encoder that can repeat the playlist
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming and lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. Its documentation also describes Gyre as a cloud-based service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. For a self-managed Azure setup, select an encoder or scheduler that can reliably play the playlist in order, repeat it, and recover after an interruption. The availability of OBS does not by itself establish a particular playlist-repeat configuration; verify that the version and workflow you choose support the behavior you need, then rehearse it before going live.
Choose Azure resources around the actual workload
Select an Azure region, VM size and operating system that fit the encoder you intend to run and the way you will manage it. Also account for the video files and any local recording storage. The total is not just the VM’s hourly compute rate: storage, virtual networking, outbound bandwidth, monitoring and other configured resources can contribute. The exact cost depends on your region, VM size, operating system, runtime, storage and traffic, so use the Azure pricing calculator with your own assumptions and set Cost Management budgets or alerts.

Plan upload bandwidth with headroom
YouTube recommends upload capacity above the combined primary and backup bitrates, with 20% headroom. Work out the total for the stream and any backup stream you configure, then confirm that the VM’s outbound network path can sustain it. This is a bandwidth-planning recommendation, not a guarantee that the stream will remain healthy: outbound connectivity or the encoder can fail while the VM itself still appears to be running.
Set up the YouTube Live event and encoder
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live event. Obtain that event’s stream URL and stream key.
- Protect the stream key. Enter the event’s URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in shared screenshots or expose it in logs. Reset it if you believe it has been compromised.
- Set the video and connection parameters. Configure the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, video bitrate, audio settings and keyframe interval according to YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the chosen output. Use a bitrate that your VM’s outbound connection can sustain; include both primary and backup bitrates when applying YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation. The exact values depend on the source and output you choose, so do not copy a preset that exceeds your available bandwidth.
- Load and test the playlist. Add only the rights-cleared videos. Confirm that the chosen software advances through them, repeats them as intended, and handles the transition from the last item back to the first. Check the audio at transitions and make sure no unintended gap or unlicensed material is included.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start sending the stream to YouTube, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the event public. Confirm the correct event is receiving the feed and that both picture and sound are acceptable.
- Monitor the full run. Keep an eye on YouTube’s stream-health indicators, the playlist and the VM’s outbound connection. Test the encoder-restart and recovery procedure before the real broadcast. YouTube recommends testing and continuous quality monitoring; a running VM alone is not proof that viewers are receiving a healthy stream.
Manage interruptions, archives and Azure billing
Recover deliberately when the stream drops
If the VM is still running but YouTube stops receiving video, check the encoder and outbound connectivity as well as the VM status. Reconfirm that the encoder is sending to the intended event and that its stream URL and key are correct. Rehearse restarting the encoder and checking the YouTube preview so recovery is a known procedure rather than an improvised one. If the key may have leaked, reset it and update the encoder with the replacement.

Understand stopped versus deallocated
In Azure, a VM shown as stopped can still incur compute charges. Deallocate it when you intentionally want to stop compute billing, but remember that disks and other associated resources can continue to incur charges. For a stream intended to run all day, make sure the VM will not be stopped or deallocated during the planned broadcast; for idle periods, check the full set of billable resources rather than relying on the VM’s displayed state alone.
Keep an independent archive if needed
If you need a recording regardless of YouTube’s archive behavior, plan and test a local recording path separately. The YouTube documentation establishes automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; it does not establish the same archive result for a longer uninterrupted stream.

Troubleshooting common failures
- The channel cannot go live: Check verification and whether the channel has a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. If live streaming has only just been enabled, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no feed: Confirm the encoder is running, the event’s stream URL and key are entered correctly, and the VM has outbound connectivity. Check the event preview rather than treating a running VM as proof of a live stream.
- The preview is unstable or quality is poor: Check the encoder’s stream-health indicators and compare the configured primary and backup bitrates with available upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above their combined bitrate; reduce the output demands or address network capacity if that margin is unavailable.
- The playlist stops or does not repeat: Verify the selected encoder or scheduler’s playlist and repeat behavior outside the public event. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not guarantee a specific playlist configuration in OBS or another encoder.
- The stream ends but there is no expected archive: Check the stream duration. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not the same outcome for longer uninterrupted streams.
- The Azure bill is higher than compute alone: Review storage, virtual networking, bandwidth, monitoring and other resources in Cost Management. For intended idle periods, confirm whether the VM is deallocated and whether attached resources still incur charges.
