To show the current jazz track on a YouTube live stream, send your station’s audio to YouTube through an encoder that supports its actual feed, and place the station’s now-playing data in a visual overlay. YouTube’s broadcast title and description describe the event; they are not a live, per-song display. Check music rights and YouTube’s Content ID requirements before going live.
How the audio and track display fit together
Think of this as two connected pipelines: an audio feed from the station to YouTube, and a separate data-to-video path that puts the current artist and title on screen.
- Audio: YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the
liveBroadcast, which describes the event, from theliveStream, which carries the incoming audio-video feed. - Track display: Your station’s automation system or metadata endpoint supplies the current artist and title to a visual layer in the video. Viewers see that text as part of the picture.
The YouTube API’s broadcast-level fields include information such as title, description, schedule, status and recording settings. The API references reviewed do not describe a field that updates the YouTube player with each song. Changing the broadcast title or description is therefore not a substitute for an on-screen now-playing overlay.
Check music rights before configuring the stream
Confirm that your permissions cover a YouTube simulcast, the territories where viewers may watch, and any replay or archive YouTube creates. A licence for ordinary radio transmission does not automatically establish permission to stream the same music on YouTube or keep an archived copy there.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can interrupt or terminate a live stream if the content continues. YouTube also warns that having a licence may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Ask each relevant rights holder or distributor to confirm the permissions and any allowlisting needed for your channel.
YouTube’s live Content ID matching is not a general-purpose music licence or a workaround when permissions are missing. YouTube describes it as available only to certain partners using Studio Content Manager, with requirements that include a proven Content ID record, time-sensitive live content, global rights and exclusive ownership. Do not treat access to that system as a substitute for clearance from your music rights holders.

Prepare the station feed and metadata
Identify how your station audio can reach an encoder
Find out whether your station can provide audio as a local file, an audio-device input, or a network stream, and identify the exact format and protocol. Then choose an encoder or input route that supports that feed. Do not assume that any internet-radio URL will work simply because the encoder accepts audio sources.
OBS is one possible encoding and scene-composition layer, but the OBS Media Source documentation lists local MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV files; it does not establish compatibility with every Icecast or SHOUTcast URL or radio-hosting setup. Verify the source type and connection method with your station’s provider or automation system before building the scene. If the feed cannot be ingested directly, the station’s existing automation or another compatible route may be needed.

Locate a reliable now-playing source
Determine where the station’s current artist and title are generated: for example, in its automation output or a metadata endpoint. Make sure that source updates when tracks change and remains available to the computer or system rendering the video. The exact connection depends on the station’s infrastructure; the available platform documentation does not establish a universal ready-made OBS integration.
Choose an overlay and define its fallback
Use a browser source, another overlay method, or an equivalent scene element to render the metadata as video text. Decide what appears when the station provides no artist/title data: a station name, a neutral “Now playing” label, or another accurate fallback. Test long titles and artist names, special characters, missing fields and the transition between songs. The overlay is visual text in the stream, not a YouTube per-track metadata update.

Create and configure the YouTube live broadcast
- Create the event in YouTube Studio or through your established API workflow. Set the broadcast title and description, schedule if needed, and choose the appropriate recording or archive settings. These describe the broadcast as a whole.
- Associate the event with its incoming stream. YouTube models the event and media feed separately: the
liveBroadcastis the event, while theliveStreamcarries the content. Confirm that the encoder is sending to the stream associated with the intended broadcast. - Keep credentials private. Treat the stream key as a secret. Enter it only in the encoder or service that will send the feed, and do not expose it in a public scene, screenshot or stream description.
- Preview before going live. Confirm that the correct broadcast is selected and that YouTube receives the audio and composed video before making the event public.
Bring the audio, overlay and broadcast together
- Start the station feed using the verified input route, then check that the encoder receives clean, continuous audio.
- Start the metadata connection and confirm that the overlay shows the station’s current track information.
- Watch at least one track transition in the preview. Check that the title changes promptly and that missing or unusually long metadata does not break the layout.
- Start the YouTube broadcast and verify the result from the YouTube Studio live dashboard and, where practical, a separate viewer session.
- Keep an eye on the dashboard for content-matching notices or interruptions. If YouTube reports a match, follow up with the relevant rights holder and resolve the rights or allowlisting issue rather than trying to evade detection.
Common problems and practical fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The encoder cannot open the station URL | The input method or stream format is not supported by the chosen source. | Confirm the feed protocol and format with the station provider. Use an ingest route that explicitly supports that source rather than assuming a URL is compatible with OBS Media Source. |
| Audio reaches YouTube, but track names do not appear | The visual overlay is not connected to the metadata source, or that source is not publishing current track data. | Check the automation output or metadata endpoint independently, then verify that the overlay can read it. |
| The track display stays on the previous song | Metadata updates may be delayed, unavailable, or not reflected by the overlay. | Compare the station’s metadata source with the overlay output at a track change and confirm the refresh/update path. |
| The overlay is blank or unreadable for some tracks | Fields may be missing, or long names and special characters may exceed the layout. | Test incomplete and long metadata; add a fallback and adjust the text layout. |
| YouTube interrupts or terminates the live stream | A third-party content match may have occurred, including for music the station believes it has licensed. | Check YouTube Studio for the notice and contact the rights holder or distributor about the YouTube permissions and channel allowlisting. |
| The stream is live, but the wrong event information appears | The encoder may be sending to a different broadcast than the one being checked. | Verify the broadcast-to-stream association and confirm the selected event in YouTube Studio. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is designed to keep a YouTube channel live by looping videos uploaded to its cloud service. It is not a direct live-radio feed or a live metadata connector: to use it for a station, you would first need to create a video that already contains the audio and any track display you want shown.
For that uploaded-video workflow, upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
