To stream a looping Gregorian chant meditation video on YouTube Live, prepare a recording you have permission to use, create a live event in YouTube Studio, and send the video and audio to it with an encoder set to repeat the source. Test the loop and stream health before the event. You need a computer and a reliable internet connection; a camera and microphone are unnecessary unless you plan to add live material.
Before you begin: check eligibility and rights
Confirm that your channel can go live
YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and belong to a creator who is at least 16. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Make sure the recording is cleared for the uses you intend
YouTube’s terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights involving artists, labels, publishers and other rights participants. A traditional chant or old composition does not automatically make a modern recording or arrangement free to use. Confirm that your permission covers the live transmission and, if you plan to keep or reuse it, the archive and later uses. This is a practical rights check, not a determination about any particular recording. See YouTube’s Terms of Service.
How do I stream a looping Gregorian chant meditation video on YouTube Live?
- Prepare the source. Use a finished video file containing the image and chant audio, or add the audio and picture as separate sources in your encoder. Keep documentation of the permissions for the exact recording and arrangement you use.
- Enable live streaming and create an event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Retrieve the server URL and stream key for the event. The key is a credential that lets the encoder send a feed to your channel; treat it like a password and do not show it in screenshots, recordings or public tutorials. YouTube explains the encoder connection at Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- Configure an encoder on your computer. Add the prepared media source and turn on its repeat or loop function. Confirm that it repeats both the picture and audio as intended. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers sending a feed, not the loop controls of any particular application, so check the current documentation for the encoder and media source you choose. YouTube lists OBS among encoders supporting HLS output.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. Select RTMPS if your encoder supports it, then enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Keep the key private. Start the encoder feed and check the Live Control Room preview before making the event public or going live.
- Test the complete loop. Check that the chant is audible, the image and audio remain in sync, and the source returns to its beginning without a gap or unexpected pause. YouTube advises testing with audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast. Check the preview and stream-health messages before the audience arrives.
- End the event and review the archive. Stop the feed using the encoder and Live Control Room workflow. If YouTube creates an archive, review it and confirm that your rights cover retaining and reusing it; permission for a live transmission should not be assumed to cover every later use.
Choose video and audio settings that your connection can sustain
YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection to its ingest servers. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS; a frame rate up to 60 fps; constant bitrate encoding; and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, its advanced recommendations include 44.1 kHz sampling and 128 kbps. Use settings supported by your encoder and stable on your connection; these are platform recommendations, not a guarantee of a particular viewing result. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

| Output target | H.264 bitrate guidance from YouTube | When it may suit a chant meditation stream |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | A reasonable lower-bandwidth choice when the visual is mostly still and you do not need as much detail. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended | Use when extra image detail matters and your upload connection can sustain the higher rate. |
The bitrate figures are YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance, accessed in 2026; they are not independent test results or a promise that a setting will work on every connection. YouTube also recommends that total stream bitrate stay within available upload bandwidth, with 20% headroom. Run an upload-speed test and leave capacity for other network use or any backup feed. A stable wired Ethernet connection is an optional practical choice, not a YouTube requirement. See encoder settings and YouTube’s network guidance.
Plan the test and launch timing
For a first event, schedule enough time to verify the full chain—source, encoder, connection and YouTube preview—before viewers arrive. YouTube’s live tips recommend configuring the encoder at least two hours before the event, starting it at least 15 minutes ahead, checking the preview, confirming the event is accessible, and monitoring audio and video quality. These are YouTube’s planning recommendations, not a guarantee against a network interruption. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

- Confirm that the Live Control Room preview shows the correct video and that the chant can be heard clearly.
- Watch the stream-health status and messages rather than assuming a running encoder means YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
- Keep an eye on the beginning and end of the loop, where pauses, black frames or audio gaps are easiest to spot.
Computer software or hardware encoder?
YouTube supports encoder software running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. For a single prerecorded picture-and-audio source, software on a computer is usually the more direct starting point: add the media, configure its loop, and monitor the preview. A hardware encoder is an alternative if it suits an existing setup, but it is not inherently necessary for prerecorded material. Neither type should be assumed to provide the same loop behavior or automatic recovery; verify those capabilities in the current documentation for the device or application you choose.
Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot create a live stream. Check channel verification, age eligibility and whether a live-stream restriction applies. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
- YouTube receives no picture or audio. Verify the selected media source and encoder output, then check that the correct server URL and stream key were entered for this event. Recheck the Live Control Room preview.
- The video or chant does not repeat properly. Check the repeat setting on the source or playback method inside your encoder. Observe a full transition in the preview; YouTube’s ingest guidance does not establish how a particular encoder loops a file.
- The stream is unstable or reports health warnings. Compare the configured total bitrate with measured upload capacity, leave the recommended 20% headroom, and reduce resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the target. Network disruption can interrupt a live feed.
- The image is too demanding for the connection. Consider 720p30 instead of 1080p30 and use the corresponding YouTube bitrate guidance in the table above. A static meditation image may not need the higher resolution.
- You are considering HLS instead of RTMPS. YouTube generally recommends RTMPS. HLS has distinct ingest settings and sends video in segments, resulting in higher latency; use it only when your encoder or codec needs call for it, and follow YouTube’s HLS ingest guidance.
- YouTube flags or removes the music. Recheck permissions for the exact recording and arrangement, including the live use and any archive. Do not infer rights from the age of the composition alone.
