To stream podcast episodes as a YouTube Live feed from an Indian cloud server, create or schedule the YouTube broadcast, run an encoder on the server to play the episode playlist, and send its output to YouTube using the current RTMPS URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Confirm YouTube’s preview before starting the event. The setup can relay prerecorded episodes, but you are responsible for keeping the server, playlist and encoder running and recovering them if something stops.
Choose between a scheduled show and a continuous channel
For a one-off episode or a recurring show, schedule a YouTube Live event and connect the server encoder when it is time to broadcast. For an always-on channel, plan how the incoming feed and viewer-facing broadcasts will be managed over time. YouTube’s API distinguishes a live stream—the incoming feed—from a live broadcast—the event viewers watch. That distinction is useful when designing recurring or continuous workflows, but it does not keep your server, encoder or playlist online by itself. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes the stream and broadcast resources and their relationship.
Create the YouTube Live destination
- In YouTube Studio, open the current Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast.
- Copy the event’s current stream URL and stream key. Use the values shown for your event rather than relying on a fixed endpoint copied from an example.
- Keep the key private. It authorizes an encoder to send video to the destination, so do not expose it in screenshots, public scripts or logs.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the workflow: enter the URL and key in the encoder, start sending, wait for the preview, then start the scheduled event in Live Control Room. YouTube’s interface may change, so follow the current controls shown in your account.
Run an encoder and playlist on the Indian server
Install or run an encoder that can read your podcast episode files, play them in the intended order, and send an audio/video feed to YouTube. The server needs access to those files and a stable network route to the YouTube ingestion endpoint. The official YouTube connection guidance does not prescribe a particular Indian cloud provider, server size, bandwidth plan, FFmpeg command, service manager or restart policy; those choices depend on the encoder, media formats and provider.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A podcast is audio, but a YouTube Live feed is presented as video. If your source episodes are audio-only, configure the encoder to provide a visual element as well, such as a static show image, if supported by your chosen workflow. Check that both sound and picture are present in the YouTube preview. Do not assume a sample command will suit every codec, playlist format or server.
Use RTMPS by default; choose HLS only when it fits
| Protocol | When it fits | Requirements and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| RTMPS | A typical encoder workflow where you want the ordinary YouTube ingestion path. | RTMP over an SSL connection. Google specifies a valid YouTube RTMPS endpoint, correct application path and port 443. Copy the current endpoint and key from Live Control Room. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guidance explains the connection requirements. |
| HLS | A compatible encoder or codec workflow that specifically calls for HLS and can tolerate its higher latency than RTMP-based ingestion. | YouTube’s Help Center requires TS segments, segment durations of 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. Byte ranges and non-HTTPS encryption are unsupported. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements. |
HLS is not inherently better for a podcast playlist; choose it only when your encoder and media requirements justify the segmented workflow.

Test the feed before starting the event
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube to show its incoming preview.
- Listen and watch the preview: confirm that speech is audible, the visual is present, and episode transitions occur in the intended order.
- Check how the playlist handles silence, gaps, the end of the list and an encoder restart.
- When the preview is ready, start the scheduled event in Live Control Room.
These checks help reveal problems before viewers arrive; they are not a guarantee that a server or stream will remain uninterrupted.
Understand archiving and long-running broadcasts
YouTube’s encoder documentation states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” Keep the under-12-hour condition in mind; it is not a promise that a single continuous broadcast longer than that will be archived in full. For longer-running channels, plan how broadcasts will be divided and how you will manage the incoming feed and events.

What to decide about the Indian cloud server
The cited YouTube instructions explain how to connect an encoder, not which Indian region, machine size or network plan to buy. Before choosing a provider, confirm that it offers a region suitable for your audience and workload, enough compute for your selected encoder, and outbound bandwidth or egress terms you understand. Compare current provider availability and costs directly; they are not established by YouTube’s setup documentation.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no signal | The encoder is not running, or the endpoint, application path, port or key is wrong. | Copy the current event URL and key again from Live Control Room. For RTMPS, verify the valid endpoint and correct path, and that the connection uses port 443. |
| The event is not visible to viewers | The encoder is sending, but the scheduled broadcast has not been started in Live Control Room. | Confirm the preview first, then start the event using the current Live Control Room controls. |
| Audio plays but the picture is missing | The source is audio-only or the encoder’s visual output is not configured correctly. | Check the encoder’s video output and confirm a visual appears in YouTube’s preview before starting. |
| Episodes play in the wrong order or stop unexpectedly | The playlist or file access does not match the intended sequence, or the encoder does not handle the list’s end or restart as expected. | Test the playlist, transitions, end-of-list behavior and restart on the actual server before announcing the stream. |
| HLS ingestion fails | Segmenting or delivery does not meet YouTube’s HLS requirements. | Check for TS segments of 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and no byte ranges or non-HTTPS encryption. |
| The stream stops after a server or encoder interruption | The self-managed process or its connection ended; YouTube’s event model does not itself restart your encoder. | Inspect the server and encoder, restore the feed, and verify the preview again. Configure and test monitoring and recovery appropriate to your provider and software. |
