You can relay an authorized Spanish internet radio feed to YouTube from Linux by combining its audio with a permitted still image or video, then sending the encoded stream to the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. OBS offers a graphical setup; FFmpeg offers a command-line route. First, get permission to retransmit the station and its music: being able to listen online does not grant rebroadcast rights.
Before you stream: confirm the feed and rights
Ask the station for the authorized stream URL, any credentials, and permission to retransmit its audio on YouTube in your intended territories. Confirm that the permission covers the relevant music, recordings, publishing and broadcast rights. YouTube’s Live Stream Terms and Conditions require the provider to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if it is not resolved, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed content may be interrupted unless the rights owner allowlists your channel. Confirm permissions and any needed allowlisting with the station and rights holders before scheduling a broadcast. See YouTube’s guidance on live-streaming copyrighted content.
Also ask what kind of feed the station provides. Its URL may lead to a playlist rather than media directly, require authentication, redirect, or use a format your installed FFmpeg or OBS build cannot read. The station is not specified here, so its exact URL, format and access requirements must be checked with the station.

Choose a Linux workflow
| Option | Best suited to | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS | A desktop setup with graphical scene and source controls. | Whether your OBS build can open the station feed and whether its audio and video output settings match YouTube’s current recommendations. |
| FFmpeg | A command-line or headless setup that combines an audio input with an image or looped video. | Whether the installed build can read the station’s actual feed and has the required encoders. Test the exact URL and build; no single command works for every station feed. |
| Liquidsoap | Radio-oriented scheduling or processing. | Verify the configuration against its current documentation and your feed. A ready-made recipe for every station feed is not established here. |
OBS is usually easier to inspect visually while setting up a scene. FFmpeg is scriptable, but automation does not remove the need to monitor the source, encoder and YouTube stream. Either way, validate the particular station feed before relying on it.
Set up YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live, then create or select the live stream.
- In Live Control Room, copy the displayed server URL and stream key into OBS or your encoder. Prefer the RTMPS server URL if the encoder supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL, which encrypts the connection; see Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, put it in a public script or share it with anyone who should not control your stream. Reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health indications. Start the live event using the controls and configuration shown in Live Control Room.
Configure OBS with the station audio and a visual
- Create a scene and add the station feed as an audio source. The precise source type and fields depend on the feed format and your OBS build; confirm that the source connects and produces sound before proceeding.
- Add an image or other video source that you have permission to use. A still image is sufficient as a visual, but the outgoing stream still needs a video signal.
- In OBS’s streaming settings, select YouTube or enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Use the RTMPS URL when supported.
- Set the output to constant bitrate (CBR), use H.264 video, and configure AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends no more than four seconds. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Run a private or otherwise non-public test where available. Check that the image appears, audio is audible without clipping, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream before making the event public.
These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that every Linux distribution’s OBS build has the necessary encoder support or can decode a particular radio feed. Confirm the options available in your installed version.

Use FFmpeg when you want a command-line workflow
FFmpeg can read an audio input, pair it with a still image or looped video, encode both, and publish to YouTube. The correct input options depend on the station’s URL, container, codec, redirects, TLS and authentication; the right output options depend on your FFmpeg build. For that reason, do not treat a copied command as universally usable. Check FFmpeg’s installed encoders and test the actual station URL before broadcasting.
- Verify the feed independently: confirm that it resolves to playable audio, determine whether it needs credentials, and check whether it is a direct stream or a playlist that FFmpeg must follow.
- Choose a permitted image or video file and verify that FFmpeg can read it. A static image must be looped or otherwise supplied for the duration of the audio stream so that the output includes video.
- Build an FFmpeg command for the observed input and your installed codecs. Configure H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, CBR, stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and the recommended 128 kbps stereo bitrate, plus a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds).
- Send the encoded output to the current RTMPS server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Keep credentials out of public scripts and logs.
- Watch the encoder output and YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators. Confirm sound, image, stable feed reception and adequate upload capacity before starting the public event.
Do not assume a sample command proves a setup is reliable for continuous broadcasting. Feed interruptions, authentication expiry, codec incompatibility or a host disconnect can stop the output; plan monitoring and recovery for your Linux host and station feed.

Test the broadcast and end it cleanly
- Audio: Confirm that the station is audible in YouTube’s preview, at a sensible level and without clipping or silence.
- Video: Confirm that the intended still image or video is visible rather than a black or missing frame.
- Connection: Check YouTube’s stream-health status and your available upload capacity with representative audio and movement. YouTube recommends testing the stream rather than assuming a connection is adequate.
- Source continuity: Keep an eye on the station feed as well as the encoder. A healthy upload cannot compensate for a disconnected radio source.
- Shutdown: Stop the encoder, then use Live Control Room to end the event. Verify that the event has ended rather than leaving the live session open.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder cannot open the radio URL | The URL may redirect, point to a playlist, require authentication, or use a format unsupported by the installed build. | Ask the station for the direct authorized feed details and credentials; test the actual URL and verify the installed decoder support. |
| YouTube does not receive a picture | The scene or FFmpeg output has audio but no video signal, or the image source did not load. | Confirm the image or video source is active and that the encoder is sending a video stream. |
| YouTube receives video but no sound | The station input may not be connected, may have become silent, or may not be encoded in a supported audio format. | Check source playback and levels locally, then confirm AAC or MP3 output and inspect the YouTube preview. |
| Stream health is poor or the stream disconnects | Upload capacity may be inadequate or unstable, or the host or station feed may have dropped. | Test available upload capacity, monitor the source and encoder, and check Live Control Room for stream-health information. |
| Stream is replaced or interrupted after starting | YouTube may have detected third-party content, or the channel may lack an applicable rights-holder allowlist. | Stop and resolve the rights issue with the station and rights holders; do not assume a publicly accessible feed is cleared for retransmission. |
| Encoder authentication fails | The server URL or stream key may be incorrect, stale or exposed and reset. | Copy current values from Live Control Room and replace any stored key if it may have been compromised. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube stream of uploaded video running without leaving a Linux computer on, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud. It plays uploaded videos, not a live radio feed or a camera, so it is not a way to relay the station’s live internet audio described above.
