You can schedule an uploaded video as an automated YouTube Live broadcast in StreamYard, but StreamYard’s current help documentation does not confirm that this automated workflow lets you select portrait output or guarantees a vertical result. Prepare a genuine 9:16 source file, follow the scheduling steps below, and verify the orientation controls in your current broadcast flow—or confirm with StreamYard—before promising viewers a vertical livestream.
What StreamYard does—and what it does not confirm
StreamYard’s prerecorded workflow schedules an uploaded video to start automatically at a chosen time, even if you are offline. The broadcast ends when the video finishes. That solves the scheduling and unattended-start parts of the task, but does not establish that the automated video is sent to YouTube in portrait orientation.
StreamYard documents a separate portrait studio mode with a 9:16 frame. Its portrait-mode, MARS, and destination-orientation information describes studio or general broadcast controls, not a portrait selector in the prerecorded automation flow. Do not assume that selecting a vertical source file alone guarantees a vertical YouTube Live output. The unresolved compatibility point is whether the current prerecorded flow offers the needed orientation control and how it handles a portrait source.
This is about a vertical YouTube Live broadcast, not a YouTube Shorts livestream. StreamYard’s portrait help page says Shorts does not support live streaming; MARS portrait output creates a separate YouTube post.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Prepare a compatible vertical video
- Use a portrait 9:16 source. Native vertical footage is the clearest starting point for a vertical result. In StreamYard’s documented portrait studio, native 9:16 video fills the portrait stage; landscape video in a portrait stage can leave bars. That guidance is for portrait studio use and does not guarantee how automated prerecorded output will appear.
- Check the file format and bitrate. StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream documentation lists MP4 with H.264 and a maximum upload bitrate of 10 Mbps (10,000 Kbps). Paid plans support output up to 1080p.
- Check the current plan’s file and duration limits. The help page lists a 10 GB upload limit for Core and Advanced, and 25 GB for Teams and Business. Maximum source duration is 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced, and 8 hours on Team and StreamYard Business plans. Plan names and limits can change, so verify them in StreamYard’s current documentation before preparing a long or large file.
- Encode for compatibility if needed. StreamYard’s optimization guidance recommends H.264 (x264), constant 30 fps, AAC audio, and the web-optimized/faststart and Align A/V options. Keep total bitrate under 10,000 kbps. StreamYard suggests HandBrake for file preparation; encoding advice does not confirm portrait compatibility in automated playback.
StreamYard’s portrait studio documentation suggests 720 × 1280 px for portrait brand assets. That is an asset-size recommendation, not a required source-video resolution or proof that the prerecorded workflow accepts a portrait-output setting.
Enable YouTube Live and connect the correct channel
- Make sure live streaming is enabled on the YouTube channel. StreamYard says verification and activation can take up to 24 hours.
- In StreamYard, connect YouTube from the Destinations area. Sign in to the correct Google account, choose the intended channel, and grant the requested access. You must own the channel or be its owner or manager through a Brand Account.
- Do not treat StreamYard’s connection guidance as a waiver of YouTube requirements. StreamYard says the mobile-app 1,000-subscriber condition does not apply to its connection workflow, but YouTube may impose other live-stream restrictions and policies.
Schedule the prerecorded broadcast
- In StreamYard, select Create, then Live Stream, then Pre-recorded video.
- Upload a local video or select a previous StreamYard recording. Choose YouTube as the destination.
- Enter the broadcast title and description, then set the date and time. You can schedule prerecorded streams up to 365 days ahead, according to StreamYard’s supported-destinations information.
- If viewers need an advance announcement and a shareable link, select Schedule an announcement while creating the broadcast. On YouTube, the link becomes available at the selected announcement-post time. Without an announcement, the watch-page link is not available until the stream goes live. An announcement cannot be added after the prerecorded stream has been created.
- Before relying on a vertical result, inspect the current prerecorded broadcast flow for an explicit portrait or orientation setting. StreamYard’s separate portrait and MARS instructions do not establish that this automated flow has the same controls. If the setting is absent or unclear, ask StreamYard support to confirm how a 9:16 upload will be sent to YouTube.
- Use the broadcast’s status view to check that the event becomes live at its scheduled time. StreamYard says the video starts automatically at the selected time—even if you are not online—and ends when playback finishes.
If you also schedule an announcement through YouTube’s general scheduling workflow, StreamYard’s guidance says YouTube recommends a 1280 × 720 px thumbnail. That thumbnail guidance concerns the announcement image; it does not determine the video’s aspect ratio.

Choose between unattended automation and a studio broadcast
| Approach | Starts without you | Portrait controls | Playback controls | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Automated prerecorded broadcast | Yes; it starts at the scheduled time and ends when the video finishes. | Portrait selection in this workflow is not established in StreamYard’s cited help documentation. | Comments may be viewed on YouTube but cannot be shown on-stream. Studio overlays and other media assets cannot be controlled during playback. | A scheduled video where unattended automatic start matters more than studio interaction. |
| Regular studio broadcast with the video played as long-form media | No; a host must start the broadcast. | StreamYard documents portrait studio mode and MARS controls for studio broadcasts, but those controls should not be presumed to apply to automated prerecorded streams. | Use the studio workflow when you need a host-directed intro or outro, overlays, or other studio controls. | A broadcast where studio direction or explicit studio-format controls matter more than unattended start. |
StreamYard’s portrait help page describes 9:16 portrait mode and notes that orientation cannot be changed after going live. Its MARS documentation says YouTube can receive landscape and portrait simultaneously from one studio session, creating two separate YouTube posts and counting as two destinations. Streaming in both formats to YouTube requires a paid plan, although MARS itself is described as available on all plans. These are studio-broadcast details, not confirmation of the automated prerecorded workflow.
Know the prerecorded workflow’s limits
- Comments can still be viewed on YouTube, but cannot be overlaid on the automated broadcast.
- Studio overlays and other media assets cannot be controlled during automated playback.
- The prerecorded broadcast is no longer automatically saved to the StreamYard library.
- For an intro, outro, or studio-directed playback, StreamYard recommends a regular studio broadcast with the video played as long-form media; a host must start that broadcast.
Troubleshoot common problems
The video does not appear vertical
The automated workflow’s portrait-output behavior is not clearly documented. Check whether the current prerecorded flow exposes an orientation selector, and contact StreamYard support if it does not. A 9:16 source is a sensible preparation step, not a guarantee of vertical output. In the separate portrait studio workflow, landscape content can show bars.

The upload is rejected or will not process
Check that the file is MP4 with H.264 video, that its upload bitrate is no more than 10 Mbps, and that both its size and duration fit the current plan limits. For compatibility, StreamYard’s optimization guidance recommends H.264 (x264), constant 30 fps, AAC audio, and web-optimized/faststart and Align A/V options.
The YouTube channel is unavailable as a destination
Confirm live streaming is enabled, sign in with the Google account that owns or manages the intended channel, select the correct channel, and grant StreamYard’s requested access. If the channel has just been verified or activated for live streaming, StreamYard says activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s other live-stream restrictions may still apply.

Viewers cannot find the link before the broadcast
If you need a shareable link before the scheduled start, select the announcement option when creating the prerecorded broadcast. Without an announcement, the YouTube watch-page link is available only once the stream goes live. You cannot add an announcement to that prerecorded stream later.
You need overlays or an on-stream comment display
Those controls are unavailable during automated prerecorded playback. Use a regular studio broadcast and play the video as long-form media instead; a host must start it.
