You can stream a Winamp playlist to YouTube, but Winamp alone is not the broadcaster: an encoder must send both the playlist audio and a video signal to YouTube. For a continuous broadcast, the player, encoder, computer, power and internet connection all have to keep working. Most importantly, confirm that you have permission to livestream every track; having a playlist or access to a radio service does not grant rebroadcast rights.
What you need for a Winamp-to-YouTube stream
- A cleared playlist: permission for the specific recordings and compositions to be livestreamed on YouTube, in the territories you intend to reach.
- YouTube live access: first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help. YouTube’s encoder-based live streaming guide explains the workflow.
- An encoder: software or hardware that sends the broadcast to YouTube. YouTube’s workflow uses a stream URL and stream key.
- A video signal: encoder-based live streaming is not audio-only. Pair the Winamp sound with a visual, such as an image or an appropriate animated display, and make sure you have rights to that visual too.
- A stable local setup: the player and encoder must remain running, with power and network access, for the DIY broadcast to continue.
YouTube’s guide establishes the encoder workflow, but not one universal method for routing Winamp audio into every operating system and encoder. The precise audio-capture steps depend on the software and system you choose.
Check music rights before going live
Make a track-by-track rights check before configuring a long-running broadcast. Confirm that the relevant rights cover live streaming on YouTube, the territories where the stream may be viewed, and the planned use. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether your channel must be allowlisted and how to request that.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may show a warning or placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or apply further consequences after a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. YouTube also warns that licensed material can still be interrupted when the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Winamp describes licensing for music in online video projects, but that general service description does not establish that your particular radio playlist is cleared for a YouTube rebroadcast. Winamp for Creators describes royalty collection for eligible online uses and a Content ID service, but royalty collection is not permission to rebroadcast someone else’s music. Its Content ID submission criteria and channel-whitelist process apply to its service; they are not blanket rights to unrelated tracks or a complete statement of YouTube’s eligibility rules. Review the relevant Winamp information on Winamp licensing, Winamp copyright and Winamp for Creators, then obtain confirmation for the actual tracks and rights arrangement.
Set up the DIY broadcast
- Enable live streaming in YouTube. Complete YouTube’s live-stream activation. For a first activation, allow up to 24 hours before expecting to stream.
- Choose an encoder and prepare the visual. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. Set up a video source that you are entitled to use; a static image is one option. The encoder needs to combine that video with Winamp’s audio.
- Route Winamp audio to the encoder. Select an audio input or capture method supported by your operating system and encoder. Verify that the encoder receives the Winamp playback—not a silent or unintended input—before broadcasting. Because routing controls vary, follow the documentation for your chosen system and encoder rather than assuming a single click path applies everywhere.
- Copy the YouTube stream details into the encoder. In YouTube’s live setup, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder’s connection settings. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send content to your stream.
- Start sending and check the live dashboard. Start the encoder, confirm YouTube is receiving the signal, and monitor YouTube Studio for warnings or interruptions. If YouTube flags third-party content, stop and resolve the rights or matching issue; do not assume that restarting alone clears it.
- Keep the chain running. For a local setup, Winamp playback and the encoder must stay active, and the computer, power and internet connection must remain available. Plan for what you will do if playback stops, the encoder closes or connectivity drops.
Plan for a broadcast that lasts
A 24/7 schedule is an operational goal, not a guarantee from YouTube or from a local computer. A local encoder depends on the machine staying powered and online and on both applications continuing to run. YouTube’s support page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that archive statement is not a promise that a single stream session can run indefinitely, nor does it establish the archive behavior for longer broadcasts. Check YouTube’s current live setup and archive guidance before planning session breaks.

If you need the channel to remain available around the clock, decide how you will handle interruptions and any session restarts. Also check that your playlist is actually set to continue in the way you intend; the broadcast can only send what the player is supplying.
When the stream does not work
- YouTube is not receiving a signal: verify the encoder’s stream URL and key against YouTube’s live setup, confirm the encoder has started sending, and check that the computer is online.
- The stream is live but silent: check that the encoder is capturing the correct system or application audio input and that Winamp is playing through that input.
- There is audio but no usable picture: confirm that the encoder has an active video source. An encoder-based YouTube stream needs video as well as audio.
- YouTube warns about or interrupts the music: inspect the notice in YouTube Studio and contact the relevant rights holder or licensing provider. Check whether the channel needs to be allowlisted; a license alone may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not added the channel.
- The broadcast stops after running for a while: check whether Winamp playback ended, the encoder stopped, or the computer, power or network connection failed. The available YouTube archive statement covers streams under 12 hours only; do not infer indefinite session or archive support from it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube playlist to keep going without leaving a home computer and encoder running, StreamNeo is a cloud option for uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not broadcast directly from Winamp or a live camera.
