You need a separate process to find and queue episodes you have permission to rebroadcast, a player that turns them into a continuous audio-and-video program, and an encoder that sends that program to YouTube. Then test the full chain and monitor it: a 24/7 setup is an operating system, not a setting that guarantees uninterrupted uptime.
How the RSS-to-YouTube setup works
An RSS feed announces episodes and points to their media files. It is a discovery and update mechanism—not a YouTube live-video input. The practical chain has three parts:
- Feed reader and episode queue: Detect new episode enclosure URLs, retrieve or stage media you are authorized to use, and decide the playback order and what happens if an episode is unavailable.
- Player and audio-video program: Play episodes in sequence and pair their audio with a video signal, such as podcast artwork or a branded scene. YouTube’s encoder and API documentation describes transmitting audio-video content, so an audio-only enclosure needs a video track before it can be sent as a YouTube live stream. - Encoder and YouTube broadcast: Send the continuous program from an encoder to YouTube Live. You can use YouTube Live Control Room with an encoder such as OBS, or build around the Live Streaming API. YouTube’s encoder guidance OBS connection troubleshooting
YouTube’s API guide explicitly describes a 24/7 live feed. It represents the incoming encoder connection as a liveStream resource and the viewer-facing event as a liveBroadcast. The guide’s example keeps a continuous broadcast live while creating a separate interview broadcast from the same stream. That documents a supported API arrangement; it is not a promise of perpetual uptime. YouTube Live Streaming API documentation
Check eligibility and rebroadcast rights first
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance lists a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days as prerequisites. It also says the operator must be at least 16 years old. Check the channel’s current Live Control Room status before investing time in the automation. YouTube live-streaming guidance

Get permission for every episode and its contents
An RSS URL does not grant permission to rebroadcast. Confirm that you have rights to stream, download, store, and, if relevant, monetize each episode. Check the rights to music, clips, guest contributions, and other material included in the recording, not just the podcast host’s own voice. Obtain permission where needed. Build the RSS episode queue
YouTube’s official documentation covers the encoder and broadcast mechanics; it does not specify an RSS polling or playlist-rotation tool. Choose or build that automation layer separately, and validate it before relying on it unattended.

- Choose a feed reader or custom process. It needs to detect new episode enclosure URLs and make eligible media available to the player. Do not configure YouTube as if it were the RSS reader.
- Set episode order deliberately. Decide whether to play newest first, oldest first, or follow a curated sequence. Test how the queue handles a new episode appearing while the stream is already running.
- Plan for failures and an empty queue. Choose what happens when the feed is temporarily unreachable, an enclosure cannot be downloaded, or all queued episodes have played. A fallback item or a clear pause-and-alert policy is safer than an undefined end state.
- Decide whether to keep media copies. Staging or retaining local or cloud copies can reduce dependence on an enclosure remaining reachable during playback, but only do so when your rights allow it.
Do not assume a particular RSS-to-YouTube service exists or works reliably without checking its current capabilities. The feed reader, queue, and recovery behavior are distinct from YouTube’s documented broadcast layer.
Create a continuous audio-and-video program
Use a player or automation layer that can play the queued episode media in sequence and combine its audio with a stable visual track, such as artwork or a branded scene. The result must be a continuous audio-video program for the encoder; an RSS audio file by itself is not a live video signal. YouTube Live Streaming API documentation

Test transitions between episodes for silence, abrupt cutoffs, or a stalled player. Also decide whether repeated episodes are acceptable for your channel and audience. YouTube’s documented 24/7 example establishes the API arrangement, not a policy exemption for repetitive programming, a guarantee that archives remain available, or permission to reuse another publisher’s content.
Connect an encoder to YouTube
- Create the broadcast in Live Control Room or through the API. Use YouTube’s current live setup flow, or create the relevant stream and broadcast resources through the Live Streaming API. The API provides ingestion information, including a primary and optional backup address. YouTube Live Streaming API documentation
- Keep the stream key and ingestion credentials private. Treat them like passwords: do not place them in public code, screenshots, or an RSS feed. If credentials are exposed, replace or reset them through YouTube’s available controls.
- Configure the encoder to send the continuous program. OBS is one software-encoder option, but it does not itself supply RSS episode discovery or scheduling. Set the encoder’s destination and stream key using YouTube’s current instructions. YouTube’s encoder guidance OBS connection troubleshooting
- Choose one continuous broadcast or separate events. A single stream resource can be bound to multiple broadcast resources in the API model. That can suit a continuous feed plus an occasional distinct event. If recurring shows overlap or need independent settings, YouTube’s API guide notes that separate stream resources may make sense. This is not a complete API implementation recipe: the API guide documents YouTube’s resource model and ingestion mechanics, not the RSS polling, media queue, or player you must supply.

Test before leaving the stream unattended
YouTube recommends a test livestream, checking the preview before starting, verifying the watch page on the channel and on mobile, checking any local archive, and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube also says expensive equipment is not required to get started, while recommending professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. YouTube live-streaming guidance

- Let an episode finish and verify that the next one starts correctly.
- Test an unavailable enclosure and an unreachable feed; confirm the queue follows its fallback or alert policy.
- Introduce a new episode and verify that the reader detects it and puts it in the intended position.
- Restart the player and encoder separately to see whether playback and transmission recover as expected.
- Test the response to an internet interruption or host outage, including any backup connection or restart procedure you have configured.
- Check the live preview and watch page for audible dialogue, a visible video signal, and a stable transition into the program.
The feed, host, player, encoder, and network are all potential failure points. YouTube’s recommendation to monitor quality does not mean YouTube automatically restarts every part of this chain for you.
Choose an operating approach for the uptime you need
For a basic loop, YouTube says expensive equipment is unnecessary; an existing computer and software encoder may be enough if they meet your operational needs. A dedicated computer or professional-grade hardware encoder may suit more demanding uptime or production requirements, but hardware does not solve RSS discovery, episode rights, or queue failures. Evaluate any approach—including a hosted service—against the same practical questions:
- Automation: Does it detect new RSS episodes, order them, and handle a feed or enclosure failure?
- Recovery: Can the host, player, and encoder restart after a crash or power or network outage? How will you know something has stopped?
- Rights and media custody: Are you allowed to rebroadcast and store every item the system handles?
- Presentation: Do you need one continuous event, separate broadcasts for special programming, or an archive? YouTube does not guarantee an archive will remain available indefinitely.
