To send OBS Studio to Wowza, select the correct Wowza destination, copy its account-specific RTMP connection details into OBS under Settings > Stream, then verify the incoming stream in Wowza. Wowza Video and Wowza Streaming Engine use different setup screens, so do not reuse an endpoint or credentials from another account or product.
Before you configure OBS: identify your Wowza product
Wowza Video is a hosted service; Wowza Streaming Engine is media-server software installed in your own environment. Both can receive an RTMP source from OBS, but the place you retrieve connection information—and the exact values you enter—depends on which one you use.

For either product, use the values shown for your own stream or application. The server, port, application, stream name, and credentials are not universal constants; copying an example endpoint can send OBS to the wrong destination.
Prepare the Wowza destination
Wowza Video
- Create or select a live stream configured to use an RTMP encoder as its source.
- Open that stream’s Overview page and locate its source connection information. Record the ingest server, port, assigned application, stream name, and source credentials shown there.
- Keep the source username and password private. Wowza Video also documents RTMPS on port 443 for encoders that support it; use the protocol and values provided for your stream.
Wowza Streaming Engine
- Create or select the live application that will receive the OBS source.
- In Manager, open the application’s Connection Settings and note the server, port, application, stream name, and any required source login.
- By default, Wowza Streaming Engine requires source authentication for RTMP/RTSP publishing. Credentials are unnecessary only if the application has been configured not to require them.
Wowza Streaming Engine’s documented default streaming port is TCP 1935, but a deployment may use a different port or have network rules that block it. Treat the value in your application settings as authoritative rather than assuming the default applies.

Enter Wowza’s RTMP details in OBS Studio
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream.
- Choose the custom service/server option. OBS supports a custom streaming server, so a dedicated Wowza preset is not required.
- Copy the server URL or endpoint from the correct Wowza product into OBS’s server field. Use the full value, including the assigned host, port, and application path where the provided endpoint includes them.
- Enter the Wowza stream name or key in OBS’s stream key field. Do not substitute a stream name from another application or account.
- If Wowza provides separate source username and password fields, enter those in the corresponding authentication fields available for the selected OBS configuration. Do not publish credentials in screenshots, recordings, or shared notes.
- Apply the settings and close the dialog. Before going live, compare the OBS server and key against the current Wowza connection settings.
For Wowza Video, the RTMP URL is based on the primary ingest server, port, and assigned application; the stream name/key and source username/password are separate connection values. Follow the exact fields and values shown for your stream instead of constructing a URL from a sample.
Choose OBS video and audio settings for your deployment
OBS exposes video and audio bitrate controls, along with resolution and frame rate in its Video settings. The appropriate profile depends on the destination’s requirements, your upload capacity, and the stream’s intended quality. The documented Wowza connection instructions do not establish one universal bitrate, codec, resolution, or frame rate for every Wowza product and account.

- Use the profile specified for your Wowza workflow or deployment, if one is provided.
- Set OBS video bitrate with both your available upload speed and any service or application limits in mind.
- Choose resolution and frame rate in Settings > Video to match the intended output and what your connection can sustain.
- Run a short test with the actual scene, audio, and network you plan to use; do not assume that an OBS status indicator alone proves Wowza is receiving usable media.
If multichannel audio matters, OBS’s guide lists Wowza among servers tested for RTMP multichannel audio ingestion. In the described server-side recording context, only the first two channels are retained; confirm how your own receiving workflow handles channels before relying on surround audio.
Start the stream and confirm it reaches Wowza
For Wowza Video
- Start the live stream in Wowza Video.
- Start streaming in OBS.
- Return to the stream’s Wowza preview and metrics. Confirm that video is arriving and that the stream looks and sounds as expected.
For Wowza Streaming Engine
- Start streaming in OBS after confirming the application connection settings.
- Open the relevant application or live source status in Manager.
- Confirm that the published source appears and that the expected media is arriving.
OBS’s Quick Start recommends testing for a few minutes rather than making the first attempt during a live broadcast. A brief test gives you time to correct a wrong endpoint, missing credentials, or unsuitable output configuration.

Troubleshoot common OBS-to-Wowza problems
