Yes. You can present a finished recording as a live event on multiple platforms at once. The simplest route is a cloud prerecorded-stream service: upload the video, select destinations and a start time, then let the service play it. Alternatively, send one live encoder output through a cloud relay, or configure your encoder to send separate outputs directly to each platform.
Choose how the video will reach each platform
| Route | How it works | Useful when | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prerecorded cloud service | Upload a finished file, choose destinations and a start time; the service plays it as a live broadcast. | Scheduled webinars, classes, launches, or other recorded content. | Destination support, scheduling, quality, and duration limits vary by service. The computer that uploaded the file does not need to run during the event when the service handles playback. |
| Cloud relay plus encoder | Send one live output from OBS or another encoder to a relay, which distributes it to connected destinations. | You want to use an encoder workflow while uploading only one stream from your location. | The encoder, source, and internet connection must remain available during the event; check the relay’s current features and plan limits. |
| Direct local multi-output | Configure an encoder or plugin to send a separate stream to each platform. | You need per-destination control and have sufficient upload capacity and computing resources. | Upload demand increases with each output, and separate encoding can increase device load. |
“Multistreaming” or “simulcasting” means broadcasting the same live stream on more than one platform at once. A prerecorded cloud service is different from a relay: it plays an uploaded file, while a relay distributes an encoder’s live output. Direct outputs send streams independently from your setup.
Before choosing, compare the destinations supported, account eligibility, prerecorded upload and scheduling options, channel count, output quality and duration caps, local upload requirements, setup complexity, chat handling, and current cost. The right choice depends on your platforms, existing equipment, and schedule.
Check eligibility and platform rules first
- Confirm that each destination account can go live and is in good standing. YouTube’s cross-platform streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and live streaming enabled; it also notes that active accounts in good standing are a prerequisite for destinations.
- Check current official requirements for each platform before scheduling. Limits and rules can change, and a setting suitable for one destination may not suit another.
- Label prerecorded content wherever the destination requires it. A multistream guide updated September 25, 2026 reports that Facebook requires prerecorded content in a live broadcast to be labeled in the title or description; verify Facebook’s current rule before publishing.
- Review platform-specific simulcasting and chat rules. Twitch’s current terms state that simulcasts must preserve the Twitch experience, must not direct Twitch viewers away, and may not combine other platform activity in the Twitch stream. Check the current Twitch Terms of Service and help guidance, particularly before using a shared chat overlay.
- Make sure the video and audio are yours to use or that you have the necessary rights. A live presentation does not remove copyright obligations; check each platform’s current rules on copyrighted and reused content.
Set up a prerecorded multistream
- Pick the destinations. Choose platforms based on where your audience already watches, then confirm live-stream eligibility on every account.
- Choose a delivery route. For file upload and scheduled playback, select a prerecorded cloud service. For an encoder-driven event, choose a relay or configure direct outputs.
- Create the event on each destination. Schedule or create the live event in each platform’s creator interface. Connect accounts through the selected service, or enter the platform’s RTMP server URL and stream key if required.
- Protect your stream keys. Treat each key as a credential: someone who obtains it may be able to stream to that channel. Use the service’s account connection where appropriate, and rotate a key if it is exposed.
- Fit settings to every destination. If sharing one output, use settings that satisfy the strictest destination in the group. Do not rely on a generic resolution or bitrate table; check current platform guidance for the chosen account and workflow.
- Test before the event. Use a private broadcast or test event and verify playback, audio, timing, and stream health on every destination. YouTube recommends testing with realistic movement and audio and monitoring stream health. For direct local outputs, its bandwidth guidance says to add the target bitrates for the separate streams and aim for 1.5 to 2 times that combined rate. For example, targets of 6 Mbps and 4 Mbps imply a recommended upload capacity of 15–20 Mbps. This is planning guidance, not a performance guarantee.
- Plan audience interaction. Decide where you will monitor comments and who will respond. If streaming to Twitch, ensure chat overlays or other platform activity do not conflict with its current simulcasting terms.
- Publish transparently. Use a clear title and description, identify the content as prerecorded where required, and tell viewers whether interaction will be live.
What service limits can look like
Limits are provider-specific, not universal. For example, a prerecorded-stream service guide updated September 25, 2026 describes its own service as supporting up to six destinations plus custom RTMP, up to 1080p, and up to three hours per stream. Those figures describe that service, not other providers.
