To stream a pre-recorded video to YouTube with Restream, enable YouTube live streaming, prepare a compatible video file, then create a Pre-recorded livestream in Restream and schedule it to the connected YouTube channel. A standard scheduled event starts automatically at the time you choose.
Before you schedule: check your channel and video
Enable YouTube live streaming
Connect the Google account that owns the YouTube channel in Restream and authorize access. YouTube live streaming must be enabled for that channel. If it is your first time streaming, YouTube requires phone verification and says activation can take 24 hours. Complete this ahead of your scheduled event. Restream’s YouTube connection guide explains the integration requirements.
Prepare a compatible file
Restream lists these requirements for prerecorded uploads:
- Container: MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV.
- Video codec: H.264.
- Audio codec: AAC.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds.
Restream recommends 1080p at 30 or 60 FPS and constant bitrate (CBR). It advises re-encoding files with variable bitrate when needed. Its file guidance also recommends adding 15–20 seconds of padding at both the beginning and end so platforms have time to process the stream without cutting into the main content. These are Restream’s product recommendations, not a guarantee that every destination accepts every encoding or resolution. See Restream’s video file requirements.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s general streaming guidance covers H.264, resolutions from 240p through 2160p, up to 60 FPS, CBR, bitrate depending on resolution and frame rate, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. Those platform-wide recommendations are separate from Restream’s mandatory prerecorded-file checklist. Restream’s YouTube integration page also lists a 100-character title limit and a 5,000-character description limit. Check the current YouTube integration guidance when preparing event details.
Create and schedule the prerecorded event
- Open event creation. From the Restream home screen, choose Pre-recorded livestream, then choose Video.
- Select your video. Choose a file already in Uploads or Recordings, or upload one from your computer or mobile device. A file in an unsupported format must be converted before upload.
- Enter event details. Add the title, description, date, and time. You can add a thumbnail; Restream recommends 1280 × 720. Free users’ event thumbnails display Restream branding.
- Choose whether to announce the event in advance. During event creation, select the advance event post option if you want one. Restream says this option supports YouTube, among other destinations, and can only be selected while creating the event.
- Enable YouTube as a destination. Turn on the connected channel. Set event privacy to public, private, or unlisted as appropriate. You may also be able to set category and latency in the channel settings.
- Create the event and check its card. Confirm the destination, schedule, and video. You can open the event in Restream to monitor the stream and chat.
Restream’s event workflow is documented in its guide to scheduling a prerecorded event and instructions for creating a YouTube event.

What happens when the scheduled time arrives?
For a standard prerecorded event created in Restream, the stream is designed to begin automatically at the scheduled time; you do not need to keep a computer at the event page. Restream’s help page says, “You don’t need to do anything – your event will automatically air at the scheduled time.”
There is an important exception when you connect the stream to an existing YouTube event whose auto-start setting is off: start the stream in Restream, then click Go Live on YouTube. If auto-stop is off, end the stream on YouTube as well. Check these settings before relying on a scheduled start. See Restream’s guide to connecting an existing YouTube event.

Limits and settings to verify in your account
Restream says prerecorded streaming is available to all users, while video storage and size depend on the add-on tier. Its help page lists the following library limits and features; these are published plan specifications and may change, so verify the current limits in your account before purchasing or scheduling a file near a cap.
| Restream add-on tier | Video library storage listed | Maximum resolution listed | Looping listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier | 2 hours | 1080p | Not listed |
| Marathon | 4 hours | 1080p | Up to 10 times |

For advance event posts, Restream lists Facebook profiles/pages, YouTube, LinkedIn, and X as supported; on other destinations, the stream appears once live. Verify current availability and storage entitlements in the current event guide.

Troubleshooting common scheduling problems
- YouTube is missing or will not connect: Make sure you authorized the account that owns the channel and that live streaming is enabled. A first-time YouTube activation may require phone verification and a 24-hour wait.
- The file will not upload: Check that it is MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV with H.264 video and AAC audio. Convert unsupported formats and check your account’s storage and file-size limits.
- The event starts, but YouTube is not live: If you connected an existing event, check YouTube auto-start. When it is off, start in Restream and manually click Go Live on YouTube.
- The stream does not end automatically: Check auto-stop on an existing YouTube event. If it is off, end the event on YouTube yourself.
- The thumbnail looks branded or is rejected: Restream says free users’ event thumbnails include Restream branding. Use its 1280 × 720 guidance and verify the account’s current upload requirements.
Keep the video and channel eligible
A successful technical setup does not establish that you have the right to stream the video or that YouTube will treat the channel as eligible for monetization. Use video, music, and other material you own or are licensed to use, and check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules before scheduling. Replaying a recording as a live event does not itself establish compliance with those rules.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The same product is on every plan; only the billing length changes.
