How to Stream Racing Game Replays Continuously on YouTube

Capture a racing-game replay in OBS and stream it to YouTube Live with settings matched to your hardware and upload connection. Learn the limits of a continuous DIY setup and a cloud alternative.

To stream a racing-game replay continuously on YouTube, keep the replay playing as a video source, capture it in OBS, and send that feed to YouTube Live over RTMPS. Your replay source, computer, encoder and internet connection all need to remain active; this setup is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 uptime.

Choose a replay source that can keep playing

Use the game’s replay playback feature, or a saved replay video if the game supports exporting one. The exact controls, export options and replay length depend on the game, so check its own documentation. Before building a long stream, confirm that the replay can run without gameplay input and that the game permits capturing and broadcasting it.

If the replay ends rather than looping, you will need a source that can restart it or a video file that can be replayed. Test the full intended cycle first; do not assume every racing game offers a repeat setting or an exportable replay.

Capture the replay in OBS

When the game runs on the streaming PC

  1. Install and open OBS, then create a scene for the replay stream.
  2. Add a Game Capture source and select the racing game. OBS documents Game Capture for capturing games; if it does not capture your game correctly, choose another capture method available in OBS and verify that the result is smooth before going live. OBS Game Capture source guide.
  3. Check the preview for the full game image, readable HUD and any unwanted desktop or menu content. Confirm that game audio reaches the OBS mixer, then monitor levels to avoid silence or clipping.

When the replay runs on a separate console

  1. Connect the console’s video output to a compatible capture device, and connect that device to the streaming PC as its manufacturer specifies. A USB HDMI capture card may be needed, but compatibility depends on the console, capture device and computer; verify all three before buying.
  2. In OBS, add a Video Capture Device source and select the capture device. Check the preview and audio routing; a picture without game audio is not a complete stream.

A same-computer PC setup may not need a capture card. OBS describes both game and video capture sources in its quick start guide.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or configure the live stream. Follow YouTube’s current account and channel eligibility prompts if it is your first broadcast.
  2. In the stream’s encoder settings, copy the server URL and stream key provided by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on stream or share it publicly.
  3. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect the account or enter the server and stream key. Use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS ingestion option where available.
  4. Set the video and audio output in OBS, start the stream, and confirm in Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed before sharing the live page.

YouTube’s encoder guidance covers supported protocols, codecs and output settings: YouTube Live encoder settings. RTMPS is the usual starting point for a standard replay stream. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion for workflows that need it; it uses segmented delivery and has higher latency than RTMP. Unless your encoder or stream requirements call for HLS, it adds complexity without being the default choice for this setup. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide.

Set resolution, frame rate and bitrate, then test

Choose output settings your PC can encode and your upload connection can sustain. Racing replays contain rapid motion, so test representative action and audio—not just a static menu. YouTube’s recommended settings include H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, CBR bitrate control, and a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds). Its bitrate recommendations vary with resolution and frame rate; consult the current table rather than applying one bitrate to every setup. YouTube’s settings and bitrate table.

  • Set the output resolution and frame rate to match the result you actually want and the capabilities of the game capture, encoder and connection.
  • Use YouTube’s bitrate guidance for that resolution and frame rate, then leave upload headroom for normal network variation. A speed test alone does not prove a connection will sustain a live feed for hours.
  • Use CBR and set a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed YouTube’s four-second maximum recommendation.
  • Only enable HDR if the replay source and encoder genuinely support HDR. YouTube’s live HDR guidance specifies compatible content and HEVC/H.265 encoding; for an ordinary setup, SDR avoids unnecessary configuration. YouTube HDR live-streaming guidance.

Start an unlisted or otherwise non-public test if appropriate, play a representative replay segment, and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and warnings. Resolve dropped-frame, bitrate or audio warnings before relying on the setup for a long broadcast.

Keep a long stream healthy

Continuous playback requires all of the following to stay operational: the replay must keep playing or restart, OBS must keep capturing and encoding, the PC must stay powered and awake, and the network must keep uploading. Configure power settings so the computer does not sleep, prevent avoidable interruptions such as system restarts, and monitor both OBS and YouTube Live Control Room. Neither OBS’s setup guidance nor YouTube’s encoder settings promise that a particular stream will run indefinitely; for a long broadcast, have someone available to respond or a recovery plan for source, encoder, power or network failures.

YouTube documents a separate HLS ingest path for compatible workflows. It uses HTTPS POST/PUT and TS segments of 1–4 seconds, with a rolling playlist of no more than five outstanding segments and no byte range. HLS has higher latency than RTMP, so use it only when the workflow calls for those capabilities. HLS requirements.

Record a local copy (optional)

OBS can record while streaming, which gives you a local copy if you need to review or reuse the broadcast. In OBS, set the recording path and check that the drive has enough free space for the planned duration before going live. OBS recommends MKV for recordings because an ungraceful stop is less likely to corrupt the entire file than with formats that require finalization. OBS recording guide.

Troubleshoot the common failure points

  • YouTube receives no video: Check that OBS is streaming, the correct scene and source are active, and the stream key and server details match the current YouTube stream.
  • Video appears but the replay is frozen or ends: Check whether the game replay actually continues or loops. Game-specific replay controls differ; OBS cannot make a stopped source continue on its own.
  • Console picture is missing: Confirm the capture device is selected as the Video Capture Device source, connected as specified, and compatible with the console and computer.
  • Video is choppy or YouTube reports health warnings: Reduce output resolution, frame rate or bitrate to a sustainable level, check encoder load and upload stability, then test again with racing action on screen.
  • Game audio is missing or distorted: Check the OBS mixer for the relevant source, confirm the capture path carries audio, and monitor levels during a test.
  • The stream stops when left alone: Check for computer sleep, power loss, network drops, game interruptions or OBS errors. A local PC workflow requires those components to keep working; plan to monitor or recover it.
  • The local recording is damaged after a crash: Use MKV for future recordings and verify the recording path and available storage before a long session.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the replay to keep streaming without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.

Copyright and replay permissions

A replay being available inside a game does not by itself establish that you have permission to broadcast every element in it. Check the game’s streaming rules and consider music, licensed tracks, tournament footage and other third-party material. YouTube may detect copyrighted audio or video and apply restrictions. A live stream can be interrupted if it receives a copyright strike or matches another live broadcast; YouTube says to resolve active restrictions before restarting. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance and live-streaming restrictions. Meeting technical requirements does not guarantee that a stream is permitted or will remain available.
