Short answer: JioPC is a cloud Ubuntu/Linux desktop, not a documented 24/7 video-playout service. The available information does not establish that OBS can be installed on every JioPC plan or that an encoder will keep running when its browser or set-top-box access session ends. You can try a JioPC-and-OBS setup, but verify installation, session behavior and sustained streaming before relying on it for a continuous church channel.
First decide what “continuously” means
A continuous channel that loops a library of past worship services is different from a single scheduled replay that runs for the duration of one service. The first needs an ongoing playout process and a playlist or loop; the second may work with a conventional encoder session if the desktop and connection remain active.
Jio describes JioPC as a virtual desktop delivered over the internet, with Ubuntu/Linux configurations. That does not by itself establish that it can run an unattended YouTube encoder indefinitely. One current product page lists configurations of 4 CPU/8 GB RAM/500 GB and 8 CPU/16 GB RAM/1 TB; another Jio page describes a launch configuration with 4 CPU/8 GB and different storage offers. These are not one universal specification, so confirm the configuration and storage on the current offer for your account. OBS encodes and sends the video feed
YouTube accepts an encoder feed, and OBS is one possible software encoder. OBS lists Linux requirements including an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU and X window system or Wayland. OBS also cautions that meeting its minimum requirements does not guarantee successful streaming; results depend on the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. YouTube Live receives the stream
YouTube says first-time live enablement may take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before the planned broadcast and verify that the channel can go live. YouTube explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format to stream on the platform. YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

How to test a JioPC-and-OBS workflow
- Enable YouTube Live early. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and follow the current encoder setup flow. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until broadcast day. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Use YouTube’s preview/control room to check picture and sound before going live. YouTube encoder guidance.
- Confirm your JioPC environment. Before building the workflow, ask Jio whether OBS can be installed on your current plan, whether outbound YouTube RTMP streaming is allowed, what happens if the browser disconnects, and whether the desktop is suspended when you are not actively connected. Jio’s published Linux description alone does not answer those questions.
- Check the set-top-box shutdown behavior if you access JioPC that way. Jio says that when JioPC is used through its set-top box, the desktop continues for 15 minutes after the box is switched off and then shuts down. Do not switch off that box on the assumption that the encoder will remain alive. - Install and configure OBS only if Jio permits it. If installation is supported, add the prerecorded worship video as a media source in a scene, configure playback to repeat if that is the desired format, and connect OBS to the YouTube stream using the current YouTube encoder instructions. Confirm that the video and audio are present in YouTube’s preview. Exact OBS menus and JioPC permissions may vary; neither is established by Jio’s general product page.
- Run a sustained test longer than the intended broadcast. Monitor YouTube’s stream health and OBS for dropped frames or disconnects. Simulate the access interruption you expect in real use, including a browser disconnect or, if applicable, set-top-box shutdown. OBS notes that unstable networks or insufficient bitrate can cause dropped frames or disconnections. A successful short test does not prove that a longer session will persist. - Choose based on the result. If the desktop, encoder and connection stay active through the full test and interruption checks, the method may suit a scheduled replay. If JioPC suspends, OBS is unavailable, or continuity is essential, use a cloud playout service whose looping, reconnect, duration, YouTube connection and cost you have verified.
Will JioPC keep running if I turn off the set-top box?
For set-top-box access, Jio says the desktop remains active for 15 minutes after the box is turned off, then shuts down. That makes powering off the box incompatible with assuming an uninterrupted encoder session. For browser access, the available Jio information does not establish the timeout or whether a disconnected desktop keeps background applications running. Ask Jio about the exact access mode and test it before depending on it.
How to choose a continuous-playout option
Compare services against the actual operational requirements, rather than relying on a general promise of cloud streaming. - Duration and persistence: Can the service run for the whole intended period without a browser, box or local computer staying active?
- Media handling: Does it support your prerecorded formats, playlists, continuous looping or scheduled replays?
- Recovery and monitoring: What happens after a dropped YouTube connection, and how will you know if playback stops?
- YouTube setup and security: How is the channel connected, how is the stream key protected, and can you preview the feed?
- Video and archive behavior: Verify supported formats and resolution, plus what happens to the YouTube live stream and its archive.
- Cost and limits: Check recurring cost, maximum broadcast duration, storage, and any plan-specific restrictions.

- OBS will not install or open: JioPC’s Ubuntu/Linux description does not guarantee installation permission or the graphics support OBS needs. Check with Jio whether the plan supports OBS and verify the OBS Linux requirements before proceeding.
- YouTube does not show the feed: Check that the correct stream key and server settings were copied through YouTube’s current encoder flow, the stream is started in OBS, and the key has not been changed. Keep the key private. Confirm the stream in YouTube’s preview/control room.
- The stream stops after the box is switched off: Jio documents shutdown 15 minutes after set-top-box power-off. Keep the box on during a test, or use a service designed for cloud playout instead.
- OBS reports dropped frames or disconnects: The issue may be connection stability or inadequate bitrate. Check OBS’s connection guidance, inspect stream health, and test with a stable connection and settings suited to the source and available bandwidth. OBS connection troubleshooting.
- The video plays once instead of continuously: Check the media source’s repeat/loop setting and confirm the playlist behavior in a private or otherwise controlled test before scheduling a public broadcast.

Copyright and church-service recordings
Only stream recordings for which the church has the necessary rights and permissions. A service recording can contain music, performances, images or other material whose rights are separate from permission to record the service. Can I use OBS on JioPC?
