To play a recorded handicraft demonstration as a YouTube Live broadcast, send it through an encoder such as OBS Studio: add the video as a looping Media Source, connect OBS to a YouTube stream with its stream URL and key, then check the preview before starting the event. The file can repeat, but that alone does not keep the broadcast online indefinitely. You must keep the encoder and its computer running and monitor the stream.
What “continuous” means for a YouTube Live loop
YouTube Live receives a feed from an encoder; it does not simply turn an uploaded video into an endless live event through a native loop setting. OBS can repeat one local video or rotate through a playlist, while the broadcast itself depends on the encoder, computer, network connection and YouTube event remaining active.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive guidance does not establish that a single event can run indefinitely, nor guarantee uninterrupted playback. Plan the event duration accordingly rather than treating a looping source as proof of a 24/7 broadcast.
Check channel eligibility and video rights first
Confirm live streaming is enabled
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the demonstration is due to start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.

Clear every part of the recording
Make sure you have the necessary rights to use the demonstration, including its music, voiceover, background audio and any third-party footage. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can trigger a warning, a placeholder replacing the stream, interruption or termination. A license may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end the stream. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its livestream terms and conditions; follow the applicable license terms and rules rather than assuming that owning the handicraft or recording clears music and other material.
Choose how OBS will play the demo
| Setup | Best for | What to enable |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source | Repeating one demonstration video | Select the local file and turn on Loop. |
| VLC Video source | Rotating through several demonstration clips | Add clips to the playlist and turn on Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this source type to appear in OBS. |
OBS documents local video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM. Its Media Sources documentation covers the source and loop controls. For a product demo, check that the item remains visible in close-ups and that the video and audio play as intended; these are production checks, not YouTube encoding requirements.

Set up and start the YouTube Live broadcast
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Allow time to resolve first-time activation or configuration problems before the intended broadcast.
- Copy the encoder details. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed. YouTube’s live-stream settings guide explains stream-key and reusable-settings controls.
- Build the playback scene. In OBS, add a Media Source, select the local demo file and enable Loop. For a sequence, add a VLC Video source, build the playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Check framing, clip order, transitions and audio before sending the feed.
- Review event settings. If reusing an event configuration, check its settings rather than assuming they are appropriate. YouTube provides controls including DVR, auto-start and auto-stop. DVR allows viewers to pause and rewind while the stream continues; check whether that behavior and the start/stop settings suit this broadcast.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming in OBS, then verify the incoming picture and sound in YouTube’s Live Control Room before starting the event. Follow YouTube’s streaming tips: prepare the encoder, confirm viewers can reach the event from channel or watch pages and mobile devices, and keep an eye on audio and video quality.
- Monitor the planned session. Keep the source computer, OBS and network connection operating. Arrange for someone to check for stalled playback, a dropped connection, muted audio or a source that has stopped. YouTube recommends monitoring quality, but that does not promise uptime or automatic recovery for this setup.
Encoder choices and settings the available guidance does not settle
YouTube supports software encoders such as OBS and also mentions professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. A recorded product demonstration does not automatically require hardware. Choose based on production needs, setup complexity, support and cost; no current product prices or head-to-head performance results are established here.
The cited setup guidance does not establish an ideal bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, computer specification or upload-bandwidth target for this particular demo. Avoid treating an uncited number as a YouTube requirement. Use the current encoder and YouTube settings shown for your event, test the actual scene and connection in advance, and confirm the Live Control Room receives acceptable video and audio.

Troubleshoot common loop and broadcast failures
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | Confirm channel verification and live-stream eligibility, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| The event receives no feed | Check that OBS has the stream URL and key for the intended event and that the encoder is running. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings and update OBS. |
| The video plays once and stops | Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. |
| VLC Video is missing in OBS | Install VLC; OBS says VLC must be installed for this source type to appear. |
| The event starts but picture or sound is wrong | Inspect the OBS scene and audio, then compare them with the Live Control Room preview before starting or continuing the event. |
| YouTube warns about third-party content or interrupts the stream | Review the matched material and your rights, including music and footage. If you have a license, check whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel; a license alone may not prevent an interruption. |
| A long broadcast ends or fails to archive as expected | Do not infer indefinite event duration from a looping file. YouTube’s stated automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; it is not an uninterrupted-running guarantee. |
Or let it run in the cloud
