First check that your channel can go live, confirm you have rights to every part of the recordings, then configure, test and monitor the feed. A normal YouTube upload or playlist does not automatically become a continuous live broadcast.
1. Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube’s current live-stream setup guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. The minimum age to livestream is 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature before your intended launch rather than waiting until broadcast day. 2. Choose how to send the recorded classes
YouTube requires an encoder—a software or hardware tool that converts and sends video as a live feed. Choose a tool that can play the files or playlist you need, keep the feed running for the intended duration, and expose the controls you need for testing and monitoring. YouTube’s encoder setup page lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; that listing is not an endorsement or a requirement.

3. Prepare the recordings and the broadcast
Build and review the playlist
Decide whether lessons should repeat in a fixed order or follow a schedule. Check that each file plays through, has intelligible audio, and joins cleanly to the next class. Tell viewers how the playlist works and how they can locate a particular subject or lesson in the class archive.
Configure the encoder and stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the scheduled live stream. Follow the current encoder workflow shown there.
- Copy the stream key into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key as a password: share it only with administrators who need it.
- Select resolution and bitrate together, according to YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance, the encoder’s capabilities and the capacity of your upload connection. There is no single bitrate that suits every class stream.
- Use RTMPS where the encoder supports it; YouTube recommends this secure ingestion protocol.
- Start a private or otherwise suitable test and check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, picture, transitions and sound before opening the broadcast to viewers.
Allow bandwidth headroom and monitor the feed
YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s needs. If you are sending primary and backup streams simultaneously, account for both in the available upload capacity. Prefer a dependable connection and test the actual route and class material. YouTube warns that a network disruption can break a stream; its streaming tips recommend testing encoder failover for event streams, but neither a backup connection nor encoder arrangement guarantees uninterrupted playback.

During the broadcast, keep an eye on Live Control Room’s stream health and check that the feed still has both picture and audio. Tell viewers where to report playback problems and whether a temporary interruption will be followed by a restart or a resumed loop.
4. Confirm rights before rebroadcasting classes
Being educational content does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast a recording. Confirm rights for the recording and instructor’s performance, along with slides or scans, music, clips and other material embedded in each lesson. The answer depends on the agreements, works, territories and applicable law; a general workflow cannot establish whether a particular SSC class is cleared.

YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance says live broadcasts are scanned for third-party content. A match can cause a placeholder warning and, if the content remains, interruption or termination. Even when you have a licence, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived live stream can also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast.
YouTube’s Terms of Service require providers to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services and to meet applicable requirements in the territories where it is streamed. Keep permission records and resolve any Content ID allowlisting requirement with the rights owner before going live.

5. Protect the stream key and set viewer expectations
YouTube describes the stream key as both a password and an address that tells the encoder where to send the feed. Limit access to people who administer the channel. If the key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the key in the encoder before the next broadcast.
State whether classes loop continuously or follow a schedule, and provide a simple way to find a specific topic in the archive. This helps viewers understand what they are watching without implying that YouTube guarantees continuous availability.

6. Troubleshoot common interruptions
