To stream to multiple social media platforms at once, send your show from an encoder such as OBS either directly to each destination or to a cloud relay that distributes one incoming feed. Direct outputs give you more control but can require more upload bandwidth and computer power; a relay simplifies distribution and sends only one feed from your connection. Before going live, confirm that every account is eligible, check each platform’s rules, and test your layout, audio, and connection.
Choose how your stream will reach each platform
There are two main ways to multistream. With local fan-out, your encoder sends a separate output to each platform. With a cloud relay, your encoder sends one feed to a service, which forwards it to the platforms you select. YouTube describes both approaches in its guide to streaming across platforms.

Neither method is best for every creator. Consider your connection’s upload capacity, computer, number of destinations, aspect-ratio needs, chat workflow, and whether you want to manage several outputs yourself.
Check account access and platform rules first
Confirm each destination can go live
Check that every account is in good standing and enabled for live streaming. YouTube says a channel must be verified and live streaming enabled; first-time activation can take at least 24 hours after you request it. You may need a stream key and RTMP server URL for each platform, depending on your encoder and workflow. Eligibility and setup differ by destination, so verify them in each platform’s current help center before scheduling an event.

Follow Twitch’s simulcasting conditions
Twitch permits simulcasting subject to its Simulcasting Guidelines, unless an agreement with Twitch requires exclusivity. Do not make the Twitch viewing experience worse than the experience on your other platforms. Twitch also prohibits actively directing viewers from a Twitch stream to a concurrent stream elsewhere—for example through on-screen prompts, QR codes, titles, go-live notifications, or chat commands. Links to your other profiles in your About area are allowed.
Protect stream keys
Software encoders may require a private stream key. Twitch warns creators not to share theirs; treat destination keys as credentials and keep them off-screen during setup and broadcasts. If a key is exposed, use the platform’s account tools to replace or reset it.

Set up a local multistream with OBS
In a local fan-out setup, configure an encoder and any required output support for each destination. The exact controls depend on the OBS version, plugins, and platforms you use, so follow the current instructions for your specific configuration rather than assuming every installation has the same multi-output controls.
- Prepare the destinations. Sign in to each platform, confirm live access, and retrieve the stream key and server URL if your encoder requires them. Keep these credentials private.
- Choose the outputs. In OBS, configure an output for each destination using that platform’s current server details and key. Set each output’s resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to values the destination accepts and your computer can encode reliably.
- Budget upload capacity. Add the target bitrates for all outputs. YouTube’s example is 6 Mbps plus 4 Mbps, or 10 Mbps total; it recommends upload capacity about 1.5–2 times the total as a stability margin, which would be 15–20 Mbps for that example. Treat this as a planning guide, not a guarantee: shared connections and real-world network variation can affect results.
- Check the computer load. Your local CPU handles video conversion. YouTube describes local encoding as a better fit for creators prioritizing control and quality who have a powerful computer; watch encoder load and dropped frames during a realistic test.
- Start a low-risk test. Where available, use a private, unlisted, or otherwise low-risk test. Check that every destination receives the correct picture and audio, the titles are right, and each platform reports healthy video. Test while doing the kinds of movement or gameplay you expect during the real stream.
Set up a cloud relay
A cloud relay can simplify distribution when your upload connection or computer cannot comfortably handle several local outputs. The general workflow is to connect your encoder to the relay, select or authorize the destination accounts in its dashboard, and stream the single incoming feed. YouTube says this approach can suit creators seeking simplicity, using a slower computer, or sending to more than two channels.

As one vendor-specific example, Restream’s OBS setup guide describes connecting a Restream account or entering its stream key in OBS, adding channels, and starting the stream from OBS. Restream says its relay avoids sending a separate upload for every destination. Its advertised setup and features are vendor claims; check the current service instructions and plan details before relying on them.
Match your video format and monitor the live show
One landscape program may not be a good fit for every destination, especially when a platform or audience expects vertical video. Decide whether you need separate layouts or outputs before the event. Restream’s pricing page advertises dual-format streaming on Professional and higher plans, but a provider’s particular feature is not the only possible production workflow. Check current plan terms if you depend on it.

During a stream, watch both the encoder and platform health indicators. Twitch’s broadcasting guidance recommends a stable connection and constant bitrate (CBR) where possible; bitrate spikes or network instability can cause buffering, dropped frames, or disconnections. Twitch’s stream key FAQ explains how software encoders use stream keys. YouTube likewise recommends a realistic bandwidth test and monitoring live health indicators.

Sending one program to several services is multistreaming. Running several distinct programs at the same time is a different feature, often called concurrent or parallel events. Restream’s help article dated July 8, 2026 says its Concurrent Events feature is legacy for some grandfathered users and that new users can use separate workspaces. It says Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and X support parallel events, while Twitch, Instagram, and TikTok do not. These are Restream-specific statements about its feature; verify current service and platform support if you need multiple distinct broadcasts.

Service limits and plan details can change
As listed by Restream on October 4, 2026, its pricing page showed simultaneous channel limits of two on Free, three on Standard, five on Professional, and eight on Business. The same page listed 1080p Studio and dual-format streaming for Professional and higher. These are vendor-listed plan details, not a permanent guarantee; consult Restream’s current pricing page before choosing a plan.
Troubleshoot common multistream problems
One or more platforms never receive the stream
- Likely cause: A destination is not enabled, its account lacks live access, or the server URL or stream key is wrong.
- What to do: Check the platform’s live eligibility, copy its current connection details again, and confirm you selected the intended destination in the encoder or relay dashboard.
Streams buffer, drop frames, or disconnect
- Likely cause: Upload capacity is insufficient for the combined local outputs, the connection is unstable, or the bitrate is too high for the path.
- What to do: For local fan-out, add the target bitrates and compare the total with available upload capacity; use YouTube’s 1.5–2x margin as a planning guide. Run a realistic test, reduce output demands if needed, and check encoder and platform health. A relay sends one feed from your connection but still depends on a stable connection and platform requirements.
The computer struggles while broadcasting
- Likely cause: Local encoding is overloading the computer, particularly with multiple outputs.
- What to do: Check encoder load and dropped frames, simplify the output demands if your setup allows, or consider a relay if reducing local encoding work is the priority.
The show looks wrong on one destination
- Likely cause: A shared layout or aspect ratio does not suit every platform, or a destination’s settings differ.
- What to do: Test each destination separately before the event, check its resolution and framing, and plan alternate layouts or formats where necessary. If streaming to Twitch, do not degrade its video quality relative to concurrent services.
Viewers are directed away from Twitch
- Likely cause: A title, graphic, QR code, notification, or chat command promotes a concurrent stream elsewhere.
- What to do: Remove active prompts that send viewers away. Twitch allows information about your other platforms, but not active encouragement to leave for a concurrent livestream.
