In the GeForce NOW app for Windows or Mac, open Settings → Game Sync, select the chain-link icon, and authorize the Steam account that owns your games. Make sure your Steam account is public, then return to GeForce NOW and select Sync. Check My Library for games supported by GeForce NOW.
This links your library for game discovery; it does not copy your locally installed Steam files to NVIDIA or make every Steam purchase playable.
What Steam sync does—and what it doesn’t
GeForce NOW’s Steam Game Sync checks which games are associated with your Steam account and surfaces supported titles in My Library. It is an ownership-and-library discovery feature, not a transfer of games from your PC to NVIDIA’s servers. Your purchases remain tied to Steam, and GeForce NOW availability is a separate requirement. See NVIDIA’s Game Sync instructions.

- Game installation: The cloud service starts or maintains a game installation separately. Ready-to-Play titles are generally prepared for streaming; eligible Install-to-Play titles may need to download when you start a session.
- Save sync: Progress is handled by the game’s save system. For Steam Cloud games, Steam can carry saves between sessions and devices; linking your library alone does not guarantee that every local save will follow you.

Before you start
- You need a GeForce NOW account and the Steam account that owns the games you want to find.
- Use the current GeForce NOW app for Windows or Mac for the documented Game Sync setup path. NVIDIA offers other apps and access methods, but menu availability can vary by device. If you can’t find Game Sync on a TV, phone, handheld, or in a browser, link Steam in the desktop app first. See NVIDIA’s download page.
- NVIDIA says your Steam account must be public for ownership detection. Review Steam’s account or profile privacy settings and make the library information visible; privacy controls can change, so check the current Steam interface rather than relying on an old toggle name.
- The game must be supported by GeForce NOW, and the Steam account you authorize must be the one that owns it.
Authorize Steam through the normal GeForce NOW account-linking flow. Never enter your Steam password on an unrelated third-party website. Linking lets the service check your library; it does not transfer game ownership to NVIDIA.
Sync your Steam library: step by step
- Install or update GeForce NOW from NVIDIA’s official download page, then open the Windows or Mac app and sign in.
- Open Settings and choose Game Sync.
- Select the chain-link icon beside Steam to start linking the store.
- Sign in to the Steam account that owns the games and approve the connection in the authorization flow.
- Confirm Steam’s account/library visibility is public, as required for GeForce NOW to detect owned games.
- Return to GeForce NOW and select Sync in Game Sync.
- Open My Library. Supported Steam games should appear there. Select a game and choose Play.
At launch, you may be asked to sign in to Steam again inside the streaming session. That can be a normal store-account or ownership check; it does not necessarily mean the library link failed. NVIDIA describes store verification in its PC and Mac quick-start guide.

Why some Steam games don’t appear
Game Sync is not an import of your entire Steam catalog. It is intended to identify games you own that are supported on GeForce NOW. A title can be missing because it is not currently supported, is temporarily unavailable, appears under another edition or store listing, or has not been synced since you bought it. A public Steam profile also does not make an unsupported game playable.
To check a title, search for it in NVIDIA’s live GeForce NOW games catalog. Confirm that the listing uses Steam and check whether it is marked Ready-to-Play or Install-to-Play. Editions and store versions may be listed separately, so look for the exact version you own.
After buying another Steam game, return to Settings → Game Sync and press Sync again. NVIDIA says new purchases do not necessarily appear until you manually sync. Availability can change, and features or membership terms may differ by region or service provider; check the live catalog and your local GeForce NOW app rather than relying on a fixed game list.

What happens when you press Play?
Ready-to-Play games are maintained and prepared by GeForce NOW, so you can generally begin streaming without waiting for a full game download. Install-to-Play covers eligible additional games that can be installed in the cloud; these may need to download when a session starts. NVIDIA currently describes Install-to-Play as a premium-member feature.
NVIDIA says Performance and Ultimate memberships include 100 GB of single-session cloud storage for Install-to-Play. Optional persistent cloud storage is listed in 200 GB, 500 GB, and 1 TB sizes. Persistent storage can retain installations and data between sessions; it does not expand GeForce NOW’s supported-game catalog. Steam Cloud can preserve saves for games that support it, independently of whether you have persistent storage. Check NVIDIA’s current feature details for availability in your region.
Troubleshoot Steam Game Sync
No Steam games appear
- Check that you authorized the correct Steam account.
- Make sure the Steam account/library is public.
- Close and reopen GeForce NOW, then go to Settings → Game Sync and press Sync.
- Search for a specific game in the live GeForce NOW catalog and verify its Steam listing and current availability.
- If the app offers an option to disconnect or reconnect Steam, use it and authorize the correct account again. Update the desktop app if its menus differ from these steps.
If only certain games are missing, that is often a catalog or edition issue rather than a broken account link. Also check whether a recent purchase needs a manual sync or whether the title is available as Install-to-Play rather than Ready-to-Play.

A game appears but won’t launch
- Sign in with the Steam account that owns the listed edition if prompted during launch.
- Check the exact game edition and store listing; a standard, remastered, deluxe, or free-to-play version may be treated as a separate entry.
- Complete any additional publisher-account login the game requires.
- Restart the app and retry; if the issue continues, check GeForce NOW service status and your device/network against NVIDIA’s system requirements.
NVIDIA recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and lists a latency requirement of less than 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. Its Windows bandwidth guidance includes 15 Mbps for 720p at 60 frames per second and 25 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps; higher resolutions and frame rates require more bandwidth. Requirements can vary by stream settings and device.
Your saves or progress are missing
Library sync does not move save files. Check whether the game supports Steam Cloud and whether it is enabled for your account and that game. Allow Steam time to finish syncing before ending a session. If the game does not use Steam Cloud, progress may depend on the game’s own account or cloud-save system and, for Install-to-Play, available persistent storage. Don’t assume a local-only save will automatically survive a cloud session or carry back to your PC.

Do not assume that a Steam game can be streamed just because you own it. NVIDIA’s current catalog is the reliable way to check support. Older NVIDIA documentation describes a Manage Steam route for some games outside the supported list, but it is version-dependent and warns that such games may lack the normal optimized experience and need reinstalling between sessions. Treat it as a legacy or in-app-specific option, not a guaranteed substitute for Game Sync; check the current app before relying on it.

Do you need a paid GeForce NOW membership?
You need a GeForce NOW account to use the service, but do not assume that a paid plan is required just to link Steam or view supported owned games. Free and paid memberships differ in access, queues, session limits, and performance, and NVIDIA currently ties Install-to-Play to premium membership. Plans and features vary by region and, in some places, by Alliance Partner. Review the local plan details before upgrading. A subscription does not make unsupported Steam games compatible or include ownership of games you have not bought.
For a single title, manual catalog search may be quicker than linking an account. Game Sync is more useful if you own many Steam games or want supported titles gathered in My Library across devices. GeForce NOW also supports connections to other stores and services, but those links do not replace Steam account authorization for Steam-owned games.
