Play the game from a player’s point of view before sharing it: complete the main objective, test the controls and restart path, reproduce any problems, and check the devices and multiplayer situations the game is meant to support. AI generation is a starting point, not proof that the game works. The exact preview and debugging controls depend on the tool; the steps below apply broadly, with Roblox Studio and Roblox Build called out as examples rather than universal instructions.
Start with the player journey
Before testing, write a short checklist from the game’s intended design. For each part, note what the player does, what should happen, and how they can tell it worked. Include only features the game actually has.
- Starting screen, spawn, or first playable moment
- Core controls and objective
- A complete round, level, or other main activity
- Scoring, rewards, or progression, if present
- Restart, failure, and completion paths, if present
Use your creation tool’s preview or test environment to play the intended route from beginning to end, using the controls your audience is expected to use. Try important transitions more than once. Watch for unreachable objectives, unclear instructions, missing or duplicated rewards, progress that gets stuck, and crashes. Roblox’s obstacle-course tutorial similarly recommends playtesting to check that players can reach the finish: Test and save.
Reproduce a problem before changing it
When something goes wrong, record the sequence that caused it before editing the game. Capture the action, where it happened, what you expected, and what occurred instead. This gives you a repeatable check: change one likely cause, then perform the same steps again. If several things change at once, it becomes harder to know what fixed the issue—or whether the fix caused a new one.

- Think You're Smart? Prove It! — Wit's End is a challenging trivia and brain-teasing board game where players battle wits in four mind-bending categories of smart trivia. Four uniquely designed categories engage your powers of deduction as well as your knowledge:
- Teaser — Can you crack the riddle? — These fun and tricky rhyming riddles will have you scratching your head as you try to deduce the answer.
- Odd-1-Out — Which one doesn’t belong? — You’ll be given four terms, but only three share something in common. Your job is to spot the odd-one-out.
- Sequence — What’s the order? — Organize movies by release date, cities by distance, historical events by year, animals by size, and more in this logic-based challenge.
- Wild Card — Antything Goes! — This unpredictable category throws surprises like Brain Trivia, Word Whiz, True or False, Memory Lane, and more! You never know what’s coming your way!
Keep a brief issue list, such as “After collecting the key, the exit stays locked.” Retest both that sequence and the main player journey after making a meaningful revision.
Choose a test that matches the question
Different tests reveal different kinds of problems. Start with the central gameplay path, then add checks for the game’s mechanics, audience, and target devices.
| Check | What it can reveal | What you need | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Play the main route | Broken objectives, confusing controls, blocked progress, or faulty restarts | You, playing as the intended player | After generation and after meaningful gameplay changes |
| Inspect scripts and runtime output | Where code behavior diverges from what you expected | The tool’s debugger, logs, or equivalent | When a defect is reproducible but its cause is unclear |
| Test client/server or multiplayer behavior | Synchronization problems and differences in what players see | Simulated clients or another player, depending on the tool | When the game is networked or designed for multiple players |
| Check device layouts and input | Controls that do not work or interfaces that do not fit a target screen | A device simulator, emulator, or the relevant device | When the game is intended for those devices or inputs |
| Ask someone else to play | Unclear goals, instructions, or controls that the creator already knows by heart | A tester who has not been coached through the game | Before sharing with a wider audience |
Use Roblox Studio’s test modes when building for Roblox
Roblox Studio offers different ways to simulate a game; they are useful for different questions, not interchangeable quality scores. Roblox Creator Hub explains that the client-server model makes testing in various modes important before public release in its Studio testing modes guide.

- CODE BREAKERS: simple yet fun. Get ready to test kids & adults guessing skills and strategic thinking. Set a secret color code and your opponent will have up to 30 times to guess your code!
- 2-PLAYERS GAME: challenge someone and take turns to set and to guess the codes. Play as many times as you want or until a player spent their 30 shots to guess the color codes.
- STEM EDUCATIONAL: helps boost kids logical thinking and reasoning abilities, whether they are guessing or setting the 5 colors secret code, the learning opportunities are endless. PLUS, with more than 2000+ possible codes, crack a different code every time.
- FAMILY TIME: the game helps promote family time and parent-child interaction. It's challenging enough to keep adults and kids entertained, but not frustrating, which invites them to continue playing again and again.

Test and Test Here for avatar gameplay
Test (F5) starts a simulation with an avatar at a spawn point or default position. Test Here starts an avatar near the current camera, which is handy for checking a particular area quickly. Use these modes to play through movement, objectives, interaction, and transitions as a player would.

Run for scene behavior without an avatar
Run (F8) simulates the experience without inserting an avatar. It can help when you want to observe a scene or scripted behavior without testing character controls. Stopping a simulation resets instances to their pre-test state.
Server & Clients for networked behavior
Use Server & Clients to launch a server and simulated clients when checking multiplayer behavior or what different players see. Roblox’s documentation says one or two clients are usually sufficient for typical checks and supports up to eight simulated clients. The number is a capability of this Studio mode, not a claim that every game needs that many testers.

Check device, controller, and network conditions selectively
Roblox Studio’s Device Simulator previews screen dimensions, pixel density, keyboard, and touch input. The Controller Emulator covers gamepads and other supported controllers. The Network Simulator can add latency, jitter, and packet loss. Use these tools when they correspond to the game’s intended devices or mechanics; a keyboard-focused solo game does not need every controller or network scenario.
See Roblox’s testing modes documentation for the current Studio controls and capabilities.

- Set a breakpoint at a likely point in the script and run a playtest that reproduces the issue.
- When execution pauses, inspect the current line, variable values, and call stack to see what led there.
- Step into, over, or out of code as needed to follow the behavior.
- Check Output and, during play or testing, open the Developer Console with F9 or /console. Roblox documents client and server output, memory use, and network performance there.
- Use local logs when you need to preserve printed messages and errors, then repeat the original reproduction steps after a change.
In solo Test or Test Here, Studio runs separate client and server simulations; Output labels messages by origin, which can help identify which side produced a message.

Ask another person to try a short goal without explaining how to complete it. Observe where they hesitate, choose an unexpected action, or misunderstand a prompt. Ask what they expected at the point of confusion rather than immediately telling them what to do. A creator often knows the intended solution too well to notice missing cues.
In Roblox Studio, Team Test supports collaborating testers. Roblox Build’s playtesting and private-sharing availability is less consistent across official pages: the Build guide says playtesting is coming soon and not yet available while also describing instant playtesting and private sharing, and Roblox Support’s Creating with Build describes playtesting while noting that availability varies by country. Check the current in-app options or an official announcement for your region before relying on a Build feature or assuming a particular rollout.

Review generated content and sharing access
A functional game still needs a content review. Roblox says creators are responsible for outputs delivered through third-party AI, and its generative AI guidance says generated content must follow Community Standards and describes maturity and disclosure requirements for certain player-facing AI interactions. Review the game’s content, audience labeling, and any relevant disclosure requirements before sharing; those checks are separate from gameplay testing.
For Roblox, a private experience can be tested through the normal Roblox website play flow without other players joining, according to Roblox Support’s Testing in Studio. Use a restricted or private option where available while you gather feedback, then share more widely once the central path, fixes, and content checks are satisfactory.
