How to throw a stone
- Move Henry to a suitable spot and crouch using the platform’s crouch control.
- Press the throw input for your platform: G on PC, R1 on PlayStation, or RB on Xbox.
- For a distraction, throw so the noise draws nearby characters’ attention away from the route you want to take.
Throwing is intended to create a distraction: nearby characters may investigate the sound, giving you a brief chance to sneak past. Their reaction is not guaranteed and may not last long, so be ready to move as soon as the opportunity appears, as GameSpew notes.
Why the throw input may not work
Henry is standing
Crouch before trying the throw control. The cited guides describe crouching as a prerequisite; pressing the throw button while standing will not initiate the action.

Your controls have been remapped
Check the game’s control settings for the current crouch and throw bindings. The listed keys and buttons are reported defaults, not fixed inputs for every setup.
You are still in the prologue
Showgamer’s guide reports that rock throwing is unavailable during the prologue and becomes available after Henry reaches the pond with Hans. This progression detail is reported by that guide; if the action is unavailable early, continue the story rather than assuming the control is broken.

Can stones be used for anything besides distractions?
Yes. PC Gamer’s bird-nest guide reports that rocks can knock down bird nests, offering an alternative to using arrows or bolts when you do not yet have a bow or crossbow. A throw is not a guaranteed hit, and the guide does not establish what any particular nest will contain.
