Use The Witcher 3’s built-in cross-progression to move a save between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox: link both copies of the game to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, upload a fresh save from the source platform, then open Load Game on the destination. Confirm the source save has a cloud icon before switching platforms.
Before you start
- Update both copies of The Witcher 3. CD PROJEKT RED says the installed patch version appears on the main menu beneath the game title; its general guidance is to use the latest patch. Official cross-progression instructions.
- Use the same CD PROJEKT RED account on the source and destination copies. If you do not have one, the account can be created for free when prompted. The My Rewards FAQ says it is available on the platform and version you are playing, including backward-compatible play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. CD PROJEKT RED My Rewards FAQ.
Transfer a save between platforms
- On the source platform, open Load Game. Select the Cross Progression prompt or button shown on screen.
- Link your CD PROJEKT RED account. Follow the on-screen sign-in steps. Cross-progression is enabled by default after linking; you can also check or toggle it under Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression.
- Create a new save. The game uploads it automatically. Wait until a cloud icon appears beside the save name before leaving the source platform.
- On the destination platform, start the game and open My Rewards. Sign in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account you used on the source.
- Open Load Game. The uploaded save should appear in the list. Select it to continue playing.
The built-in cloud-based cross-progression process is the official method; these instructions do not call for manually copying save files between a PC and a console.
PS4-to-PS5 transfers
For this specific generation transfer, CD PROJEKT RED’s dedicated instructions say to update the PS4 version to patch 4.04, connect through My Rewards, and create a save to upload. Then launch the PS5 version, connect the same account, and find the uploaded save under Load Game. Follow the official PS4-to-PS5 transfer guide for that process.
If the save does not appear or load
No cloud icon beside the source save
Check that the source copy is connected to your CD PROJEKT RED account and that cross-progression is enabled. Create a fresh save, then verify that its cloud icon appears before changing platforms.

Save missing from destination Load Game
Verify that the destination copy is signed in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account as the source. Then check Load Game again.
Modded save will not load correctly
CD PROJEKT RED says the same set of mods needs to be enabled on both platforms. A missing or incompatible mod can prevent a save from loading correctly. Different patch, edition, or storefront
The general guide advises updating to the latest patch, while the PS4-to-PS5 guide specifically names patch 4.04 for the PS4 version. CD PROJEKT RED’s published instructions do not provide a complete compatibility matrix for every legacy edition, storefront, and regional build, so check its current support guidance if your setup falls outside those instructions.

CD PROJEKT RED’s My Rewards FAQ lists PC storefronts, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo, and says the feature is available on the platform and version being played. Backward-compatible play on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is included. Availability of particular editions and storefront versions can change. The studio announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on September 29, 2026, for GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S; it said the upgrade is free for existing owners on specified platforms.
