Start by disabling every mod and launching Crimson Desert. If the game works without mods, restore them one at a time to identify a conflict or an outdated mod. If it still crashes with all mods disabled, troubleshoot the base game instead: update it, verify its files, check drivers and interfering background apps, and reserve a clean install for last.
Record what changed and when
Before changing anything, note the installed game version, each mod and its version, the manager used to install or apply them, and when the problem began. Record whether the failure happens at launch or only in a particular menu or activity, and whether it started after a game or mod update. This makes it easier to distinguish a version mismatch from a general game problem.
A community guide for Blood-Dawn’s specific 1.04.02 mod set tells users to check their in-game version and warns that other sub-versions may or may not work. That version is not a universal or current requirement for all Crimson Desert mods. Check the instructions for the exact mod you use.
Find out whether the problem is mod-related
- Deactivate all mods using the manager that installed them, then use that manager’s documented apply or restore step.
- Launch the game with no mods enabled. If it still fails, move to the base-game checks below. If it works, the failure is associated with the modded setup.
- Re-enable mods one at a time, launching or repeating the action that caused the failure after each change. When the problem returns, check that mod’s instructions and compatibility notes, including whether it overlaps with another mod.
The community guide recommends disabling mods individually to isolate a menu crash. Its procedure applies to its own setup, not every mod format. Avoid manually deleting or replacing game files unless the relevant manager or mod documentation explains how to restore them.

Check for a game-update or patch mismatch
If the problem began after a game update, check the exact mod’s stated compatibility before reinstalling it. Mod patch data can stop matching the game after an update. A manager warning that byte patches do not match may indicate a version mismatch or that another manager has already modified the files.
For the Blood-Dawn guide’s mod set, the community instructions are to confirm the game version, refresh the mod files, and check whether another manager has modified the game files. Those directions are specific to that guide and its manager; other mod formats may require different steps. Do not assume that refreshing or applying one manager’s mods will safely undo another manager’s changes.

If the game still fails without mods, check the base game
Pearl Abyss’s PC troubleshooting guidance covers general launch, crash, graphics, and gameplay problems—not mod compatibility. Work through the checks below before considering a clean install.
- Update the game and check that the PC meets the minimum system requirements.
- Verify the game files through the launcher where you own the game. Pearl Abyss provides instructions for both Steam and Epic Games. File verification can address corrupted files that may cause launch failures, crashes, graphics glitches, or other gameplay problems.
- Update the graphics driver using the appropriate graphics-card manufacturer’s update method.
Check background applications one at a time
Pearl Abyss Support says: “Certain applications running in the background during the installation or while playing Crimson Desert may interfere with the game’s launch or affect its performance and stability.” Its examples include antivirus, VPN, antispyware and firewall software, as well as recording and broadcasting applications.

Test possible interference one application at a time so you can tell whether a change matters. Pearl Abyss advises adding a game exception in antivirus software and, if needed, verifying or reinstalling game files; its guidance also suggests temporarily disabling or removing other interfering applications. Re-enable security protection after testing, and follow the application vendor’s instructions rather than leaving your PC unprotected.
Use a clean install only after less destructive checks
If updating, file verification, driver checks, and background-app troubleshooting do not resolve the problem, Pearl Abyss describes a clean-install procedure. It removes residual folders, so back up your saves before starting. For Windows, Pearl Abyss lists the save directory as C:Users[USER NAME]AppDataLocalPearl AbyssCDsave; copy the save data to a safe location, such as an external device, before uninstalling.

Follow Pearl Abyss’s published clean-install steps for uninstalling, removing residual game and local Pearl Abyss folders, restarting, and reinstalling. Do not begin by removing folders or files manually: the process is destructive, and backing up saves first is essential.

For a persistent PC issue, Pearl Abyss directs players to submit a report through PERS and complete its issue report form using the unique report ID. Include the game version, the point at which the failure occurs, whether it also happens with all mods disabled, and the checks you have already tried.

What Pearl Abyss’s known-issues notice says
Pearl Abyss’s Known Issues notice, published September 18, 2026 and last updated September 21, 2026, lists several gameplay and platform issues but no general mod-crash issue. The notice directs players with unlisted problems to its troubleshooting information or to submit a report. Not seeing a mod problem listed does not by itself establish that a mod caused a particular crash.
