Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf PS VR2 Sense controllers won’t pair with a Windows PC, pair them one at a time in Windows Bluetooth settings while each controller is in pairing mode. If they pair but tracking stutters or drops, check Bluetooth adapter placement, drivers, interference, and obstructions. Headset camera or room-tracking problems need different fixes.
Pair each PS VR2 Sense controller in Windows
First-time pairing is a Windows Bluetooth task. Charge both controllers and disconnect their USB cables before you begin. Sony’s PC adapter manual specifies a different button combination for each controller:
- On the left controller, hold the PS button and Create button until its status indicator blinks.
- On the right controller, hold the PS button and Options button until its status indicator blinks.
- In Windows, open Bluetooth settings, turn Bluetooth on, and select each controller to pair it individually.
If a controller stops blinking before Windows completes pairing, repeat the button sequence for that controller and select it again. Keep it in pairing mode while you select it.
Once paired, press PS to open the SteamVR dashboard. You can check the controller battery level there. If both controllers connect but a particular game responds incorrectly, check that game’s controller bindings in SteamVR; some games may require their bindings to be changed. That is different from a failed Bluetooth pairing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Fix unreliable controller connection or tracking
When a controller keeps disconnecting or its tracking is unreliable, start with Bluetooth conditions rather than headset cameras. Sony says the PS VR2 Sense controller “requires faster and more stable Bluetooth communication than other Bluetooth devices.” Work through these checks in order:
- Check charge and connection. Make sure the controller is charged, Bluetooth is enabled in Windows, and the controller remains connected. Turn off a paired PS5 while troubleshooting.
- Update the adapter driver. If you use an external Bluetooth adapter, install its latest driver from the adapter manufacturer. Sony cautions that not all adapters function properly.
- Improve adapter placement. Put an external adapter in a USB 2.0 port as far as possible from a USB 3.0 port. Sony suggests a USB 2.0 extension cable to move the Bluetooth adapter away from the PC and improve its visibility. If the adapter has an external antenna, give it clear visibility too. This cable is for positioning the Bluetooth adapter; it is not permission to connect the PS VR2 PC adapter through a hub or extension.
- Reduce interference and blockage. Temporarily turn off other Bluetooth devices, remove obstructions between the controller and adapter, and, if you use Wi-Fi, try the 5 GHz band.
- Restart and escalate driver cleanup. Restart Windows and power-cycle the Bluetooth adapter. If the problem continues, reinstall its latest driver. Sony also advises removing the PS VR2 Sense controller driver and unused Bluetooth device drivers in Device Manager, including hidden devices, then restarting and reinstalling the current Bluetooth driver.
Bluetooth adapters Sony lists as tested examples
Sony lists these external Bluetooth adapter models as tested for compatibility on 2024-07-20: TP-Link UB500, Buffalo BSBT5D205BK, ASUS USB-BT500, and IO-DATA USB-BT50LE. Sony says operation is not guaranteed, and its list does not establish a best-performing model or guarantee compatibility with every PC or Windows configuration. Before buying, check the manufacturer’s specifications, current model availability, and Windows driver support. If you already have an adapter, try its driver and placement before replacing it.

Tell controller tracking apart from headset tracking
If the problem is the headset view or room tracking—not the hand controllers’ Bluetooth connection—Sony’s PC troubleshooting recommends headset-side steps. Turn off the headset and close SteamVR, then open the PlayStation VR2 App and delete the play-area data. Clean the tracking cameras with a soft, dry lens-cleaning cloth, avoid direct sunlight, and use a well-lit room. When setting the play area, scan the full room, including the ceiling and floor; posters or pictures may help if the walls are plain. These steps address headset camera and play-area tracking, not a controller that will not pair over Bluetooth.
Check the PC adapter, software, and firmware
Use these checks if the headset itself is not detected, setup reports a USB connection problem, or the PC configuration may be involved:

- Reconnect the cables and confirm the PC meets Sony’s minimum requirements.
- Use a DisplayPort 1.4-or-higher cable, check the PlayStation VR2 App connection, and ensure SteamVR Direct Mode is enabled.
- If the headset is not detected or setup reports a USB problem, connect the PS VR2 PC adapter directly to a USB 3.0 port and try another port if needed. Sony’s adapter manual warns against connecting the PC adapter through a USB hub or extension cable.
- In the PlayStation VR2 App on Windows, select Update for a device and wait for “Up to date.” Restart SteamVR after an update. Firmware updates are a useful version check, but Sony does not say they resolve every pairing or tracking problem.
What the controller reset guidance does—and does not—cover
Sony’s PS5 troubleshooting guidance describes a reset button on the back of a Sense controller, followed by reconnecting the controller to a PS5 with USB and pressing PS. That is PS5 guidance; it does not establish the reset procedure as a fix for PC Bluetooth pairing. For a PC pairing problem, use the Windows Bluetooth and driver steps above rather than assuming a reset or hardware repair is required.
