Start by identifying which emulator or homebrew project you are using. For PS2 games, the community project PS5SX2 documents a PS5 route and lists supported image formats; for original Xbox games, the official xemu documentation reviewed here does not establish a PS5 port. That difference matters: PS2 file checks may help with PS5SX2, but desktop xemu instructions do not prove a fix for a jailbroken PS5.
First identify where the launch is failing
Before changing files or console settings, note whether the game image is missing from the emulator, appears in its game list but fails when selected, or starts and then stops during gameplay. These are different symptoms and do not point to the same cause.
- Not detected: Check the image format and the emulator’s current documentation.
- Detected, but will not start: Record the exact error text and the project release and console firmware in use.
- Starts, then fails in-game: Record where the failure occurs and whether it repeats consistently.
The available project documentation does not provide a complete error-code or failure-cause matrix, so an exact error and setup are needed before prescribing a specific payload, firmware change, or file-permission fix.
Troubleshooting PS2 games with PS5SX2
PS5SX2 describes itself as a PCSX2-based emulator for jailbroken PS5. It is a community homebrew project, not an official PlayStation feature. Follow the project’s current installation and launch notes rather than instructions for another emulator. PS5SX2 project README

Check the image format
The project README lists .iso, .chd, .cso, and .zso game-image formats. Compare your file extension with that list and check the installed release’s documentation, since project instructions can change. If your image uses another format, confirm that your specific release supports it before converting the file.
Do not treat an unexpected title as proof of a bad image
The README says game titles are drawn from the serial in PCSX2’s game database. A game displaying an unfamiliar or unexpected name is therefore not, by itself, evidence that its image is broken.

Separate file detection from launch failure
Confirm whether PS5SX2 detects the image and displays an entry for it. If it does, note what happens after selection and capture the exact error text, if any. Include the PS5 firmware, PS5SX2 release, image format, and installation or launch method when seeking project-specific help; without those details, there is not enough evidence to identify a particular fix.
Original Xbox games: verify that the emulator actually targets PS5
The official xemu project documentation reviewed here identifies Windows, macOS, and Linux as its platforms; it does not establish a supported original Xbox emulator port for PS5. For someone running xemu on a supported desktop computer, its documentation describes requirements including an MCPX boot ROM, flash ROM/BIOS, and hard disk image. Those are desktop-emulator requirements, not evidence of PS5 support or guidance on PS5 file locations. xemu required files
Which standard PlayStation troubleshooting steps apply?
PlayStation Support recommends general game-start steps such as restarting the console, restoring licenses, reinstalling a game, checking system software, and using Safe Mode cache or database options. Its guidance is for PS5 and PS4 games that will not start; it does not verify those steps as remedies for locally loaded homebrew emulator files.
