You can’t turn a YouTube playlist directly into a YouTube Live broadcast. To run gaming recordings as a continuous live feed, play them through an encoder or a cloud service and send that audio-video feed to a separate YouTube Live broadcast. You can do this with a computer that stays on, or upload the recordings to StreamNeo and let it loop them from the cloud.
How the rerun channel works
A playlist organizes videos for viewers to play; it is not itself a live feed. A live broadcast needs a continuous audio-video signal sent to YouTube by an encoder or streaming service. YouTube’s Live Streaming API guide distinguishes the incoming stream from the viewer-facing broadcast video and names a 24/7 channel feed as a use case. The official documentation does not establish a one-click way to convert a hosted YouTube playlist into one live broadcast.
For a rerun channel, the pieces are: recordings you have permission to rebroadcast, a playback source that moves through them continuously, an encoder or cloud service that sends the feed, and a YouTube Live broadcast for viewers. The playlist may help you organize the recordings, but check that your chosen playback method can actually access and sequence its source; do not assume YouTube will turn the playlist into the feed.
Check YouTube eligibility and prepare the broadcast
YouTube’s Get started with live streaming guidance says a channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16 years old. YouTube lists encoders as a streaming method and notes their use for gameplay. Check the Help Center before setup in case eligibility requirements change.

- Confirm eligibility. Sign in to the channel that will host the rerun and verify that it can stream live.
- Create the receiving live event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select the encoder workflow. YouTube’s event is the broadcast viewers watch; your playback system supplies the stream it receives.
- Get the stream key from the event’s encoder settings. Treat it like a password: use it only in the encoder or service sending your feed, and do not publish it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Choose a playback-and-encoding path. For local operation, use a computer and software that can play the recordings in sequence and send the output to YouTube. For cloud operation, choose a service that explicitly supports looping prerecorded videos to YouTube Live, and verify its source compatibility, recovery behavior, current terms, and cost before relying on it.
- Test privately or unlisted before going public. Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends testing the full setup. Check that the video advances through the playlist, audio is present and at a suitable level, transitions are acceptable, and the YouTube event receives a stable picture. Also decide what viewers will see if playback stops.
- Start the feed, then confirm the broadcast. Start playback and the encoder/service, verify that YouTube receives the stream, and only then make the event public or let its scheduled start proceed.
Run the rerun from your own computer
The do-it-yourself route gives you direct control over playback and the outgoing feed, but the computer, playback source, encoder, and internet connection must remain available for the channel to stay live. YouTube identifies encoders as a common way to stream gameplay; it does not prescribe a particular PC specification for replaying existing footage.
- Put the recordings in a source your playback setup can read. If your videos are already hosted in a YouTube playlist, confirm that your chosen tool can play that source continuously and legally. If not, use local recordings you are entitled to rebroadcast. Do not assume an encoder can ingest a YouTube playlist URL as a live feed.
- Configure continuous playback. Arrange the recordings in the intended order and enable looping or an equivalent repeat workflow in the playback system. Watch the end of one recording and start of the next to catch black frames, silence, unintended desktop content, or gaps.
- Send the playback output to an encoder. Configure the encoder with the YouTube event’s server/ingest details and stream key. Keep the key private; do not place it in a public playlist description, overlay, or chat.
- Run an end-to-end test. Use a private or unlisted event and let it play across at least one transition. Check the audio/video, playback continuity, internet stability, and the viewer-facing broadcast in YouTube.
- Plan for interruptions. Decide how you will notice a stopped encoder, failed playback, or lost connection and how you will restart the feed. A local setup depends on the computer and home connection remaining operational.

Rights and YouTube live copyright checks
YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the live picture with a placeholder and warn you; the stream can be interrupted or terminated if the material remains. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
Before rerunning gameplay, check that your rights cover rebroadcast of the recording and every included element: game audio and music, cutscenes, overlays, and third-party material. Owning a game or having previously uploaded a video does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast everything in it. YouTube also notes that even licensed third-party content may trigger an interruption unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Resolve that with the owner before going live.

Troubleshooting a gaming rerun
- YouTube receives no feed: Confirm the encoder or cloud service is running, the correct event’s stream key is configured, and the key has not been reset or mistyped.
- The broadcast exists but playback is frozen or ends: Check whether the playback source is still accessible and whether looping is enabled. Test the transition between recordings rather than only the first few minutes.
- Picture appears but audio is missing: Check the playback system’s audio output and the encoder’s selected audio source, then verify both in a private or unlisted test.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and identify the matched material. Remove or replace content you cannot rebroadcast, or ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting if you have a license.
- The stream stops after a connection or service interruption: Check your local internet and encoder if running at home; if using a cloud provider, check its status and recovery behavior. Confirm the YouTube event is still available and restart the feed if necessary.
Decide which setup fits
Use a local encoder when you want direct control over local playback and are prepared to keep the computer, source files, and connection running. A cloud service can remove that always-on home-computer dependency, but verify playlist/source compatibility, recovery, and terms with the provider. Both approaches still need rights to the material and remain subject to YouTube’s live copyright scanning.
