Use the older command only on older versions
If you are playing a Java version from before the rule change, use /gamerule doFireTick false. In 1.21.11, Mojang removed both doFireTick and allowFireTicksAwayFromPlayer, replacing them with the new radius rule. If the game rejects the old rule name, check the version before trying another command.
Java’s general gamerule syntax is /gamerule <rule name> [<value>]; omitting the value queries the current setting. See the gamerule command reference for that syntax.

What the setting changes—and what it does not establish
The rule is specifically about fire spreading. Mojang’s notes do not say that setting it to 0 extinguishes blocks already burning, prevents every kind of ignition, or disables fire damage. Treat those as separate effects rather than assuming this command handles them.
The official 25w44a snapshot notes also document the new rule: a value of -1 allows fire to spread without players around. The notes describe positive values as a maximum distance around a player; they do not establish detailed behavior for every positive value.
