To enable channel memberships, your India-based YouTube channel must meet YouTube’s eligibility rules and be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). In YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Earn → Memberships → Get started, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if prompted, then configure your membership levels and perks. YouTube does not publish a separate membership requirement for always-on channels.
Check whether your channel is eligible
YouTube’s published threshold for channel memberships is 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours from long-form videos in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. The two performance routes are alternatives; the subscriber and upload requirements apply whichever route you use. See YouTube’s YPP overview and eligibility requirements.
Meeting those thresholds is not the only condition. You must be at least 18, live in a location where memberships are available, accept the CPM, and have a channel that is not set as Made for Kids and is not otherwise ineligible. Memberships are a YPP monetization feature, so YPP acceptance and continued compliance with YouTube’s monetization policies matter. YouTube reviews channels before accepting them and may withhold features when requirements or policy conditions are not met.
India is on YouTube’s published list of locations where channel memberships are available. Location availability does not waive the channel-level requirements or review. Check YouTube’s channel-membership availability and eligibility information as well as the status shown for your channel in Studio, since feature availability and thresholds can change.

Turn memberships on in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio using the channel’s account.
- Choose Earn from the left-hand menu.
- Open the Memberships tab. YouTube says this tab appears when the channel is eligible.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen setup prompts.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module if prompted. YouTube requires this agreement to earn channel-membership revenue; its help page states, “To earn revenue from channel memberships, you (and your MCN) must first accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM).”
- Set up membership levels and choose the perks you want to offer, then review the configuration shown in Studio.
Memberships may not become available immediately after YPP acceptance. YouTube may conduct a separate membership eligibility review, which its help page says can take up to two days. If the tab is missing just after acceptance, allow for that review and check Studio again. Follow YouTube’s instructions for turning channel memberships on or off.
Does an always-on stream change eligibility?
No special always-on-stream condition appears in YouTube’s published membership criteria. A channel is assessed against the same membership thresholds, account conditions, and policies whether it streams continuously or not. Continuous streaming by itself does not qualify a channel or guarantee that the Memberships tab will appear.

Going live has separate prerequisites: YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. It describes mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming as available approaches. These are requirements and options for live streaming, not extra membership thresholds. Choose membership perks that fit an always-on channel
Memberships let creators offer supported benefits in exchange for recurring monthly payments. YouTube lists options such as members-only live streams, videos and Shorts, members-only live chat, badges, emoji, and member recognition features. Choose and configure supported levels and benefits in Studio rather than promising perks the channel cannot reliably deliver.

For a public always-on stream, members-only live chat is one possible perk: YouTube documents a control for enabling it in stream settings. You can also offer members-only live streams or video content where appropriate. Members-only videos must be fully original and must not include videos with copyright claims, according to YouTube’s members-only video guidance and membership help. Make sure any content or promised perk complies with YouTube’s applicable policies.
If the Memberships tab is missing
- Check the thresholds: Confirm the channel has 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and one of the two qualifying performance routes.
- Check account and channel conditions: Confirm the creator is at least 18, memberships are available for the channel’s location, the channel is not set as Made for Kids, and it is not otherwise ineligible.
- Check YPP status and policy standing: Meeting the numeric thresholds alone does not mean the channel has been accepted or that every feature is available.
- Allow for the separate review: After YPP acceptance, YouTube says a membership review can take up to two days. Check Earn → Memberships again after that period.
- Keep live-stream requirements separate: Verification and the absence of live-stream restrictions affect going live; they are not additional membership eligibility thresholds.
