If you only want a Pack to stop loading, open The Sims 4 and go to Main Menu → Pack Selection, deselect the Pack, then confirm with the checkmark. This works on PC and Mac, but it does not delete the Pack’s files or free disk space. For actual file removal, EA documents a manual Pack-folder method for Mac; its current public instructions do not give a comparable Pack-by-Pack deletion procedure for Windows. Back up your saves before changing which Packs are available.
Unloading a Pack is not the same as uninstalling it

EA describes Pack Selection as a way to choose which Packs load and free resources without uninstalling them. It may reduce active content, but it does not guarantee a particular improvement in loading time, memory use, or frame rate. See EA’s Pack installation and management guidance.
Before you change Pack availability
A save can use items, Sims, traits, worlds, and gameplay features from Packs. If a Pack is unavailable, some of that content may be missing. EA warns that loading and saving a game with missing content can cause issues, so protect your saves first.
- Exit the game completely.
- Copy your save files to another location, such as an external drive or a cloud-backed folder. Keep the original backup unchanged while you test.
- If you use Mods, disable them before unloading or reloading Packs, as EA recommends.
- If you use custom content or want to preserve your saved households and builds, consider backing up those files too. Do not delete the user-data folder as a shortcut for removing Packs.
How to unload Packs on Windows or Mac
- Launch The Sims 4.
- From the Main Menu, select Pack Selection.
- Deselect the Pack or Packs you do not want to load.
- Select the checkmark to confirm.
This turns the selected Packs off in the game; it does not uninstall them. You can return to Pack Selection and select them again later. Use this option if you want a reversible change, are troubleshooting a possible Pack conflict, or are on Windows and do not want to delete files using an undocumented method.

Remove Pack files on Mac
EA’s documented Mac process removes the Pack’s local DLC folder. Use it only if you specifically need to reclaim storage and are comfortable identifying the correct Pack folder. The folder location can vary; EA gives Applications → EA Games as the usual location with default installation settings.
- In the EA app, open Settings → Application and turn Application updates off.
- Open the The Sims 4 game folder. Find the folder for the DLC Pack you intend to remove.
- Move only that Pack’s DLC folder to the Trash. Do not empty the Trash until you have confirmed the game and saves are working as expected.
- Open the EA app, find the The Sims 4 game tile, open its three-dot menu, and choose Repair.
EA instructs Mac users to turn off automatic updates before removing DLC; otherwise, an update or repair may restore or download content. Do not delete the entire game folder if you mean to remove one Pack, and do not delete the Sims 4 user-data folder. The latter is separate from installed game files and can contain saves, Mods, Tray files, and screenshots. Follow EA’s uninstall instructions for the Mac procedure.
What Windows laptop users should know
EA’s current public instructions reviewed here do not document an equivalent Pack-by-Pack manual file-removal procedure for Windows. Do not copy the Mac steps to Windows or guess at folder names and delete files. Pack Selection is the supported, reversible option for stopping Packs from loading, but it will not free their storage. If you need to remove files, use current official instructions for the launcher that manages your installation rather than an unverified folder guide.

Check whether a Pack is installed
In the EA app, go to Library → The Sims 4 → Manage → Manage add-ons. Review the Pack list: the EA app distinguishes installed add-ons and in-game content from owned add-ons that are not installed. The Manage add-ons screen is useful for checking status; EA does not present it as a universal one-click uninstall control for individual Packs.
If you use Steam, do not assume the EA app steps apply to Steam’s DLC controls. Check the launcher managing your installation, and avoid deleting files unless you have verified instructions for that setup.
What happens to saves and households?
When a save depends on a Pack that is unloaded, its Pack-specific content may be unavailable. That can include clothing, hair, objects, traits, worlds, and gameplay features. The exact effect depends on the save.

If the game warns that a save has missing content, EA offers options including continuing with missing content, creating a copied save on PC, or returning to Pack Selection to reload the missing Packs. Continuing and then saving may cause issues, so keep your backup intact. The copied-save option creates a separate save marked with copy_ in the save folder, leaving the original unchanged.
If a household lives in a world from an unloaded Pack, EA says it remains available in Manage Households. You can move it to another lot or merge it with another household. Pack-specific Create-a-Sim items or traits may be removed unless the Pack is loaded again. For EA’s full explanation of missing content and saves, see Pack installation and management.
Reinstall a Pack later
If you own the Pack, removing its local files does not cancel the purchase. In the EA app, open Library → The Sims 4 → Add-ons or Manage add-ons, find the Pack, and use its Download icon if it is not installed. Packs should install automatically after purchase, but the Download control can be used for owned content that is not installed.

If an owned Pack is missing from the EA app
Restart the app, then check again under Library → The Sims 4 → Manage → Manage add-ons. If it still does not appear correctly, try signing out and back in or clearing the EA app cache. EA also lists reinstalling the app as a possible troubleshooting step. See its guidance on finding missing games and add-ons.
Removing the entire game is a separate step
Do not uninstall The Sims 4 if your goal is to remove one Pack. To remove the whole game through the EA app, go to Library → The Sims 4 → Manage → Uninstall and confirm. EA also documents operating-system uninstall routes for the full game, but those remove the game installation rather than managing one Pack.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Pack Selection free hard-drive space?
No. It stops the Pack from loading but leaves its files installed. EA’s Pack Selection feature is for unloading Packs, not deleting them.

Will removing a Pack delete my purchase?
No. Removing local files does not cancel ownership. An owned, uninstalled Pack can be downloaded again through the EA app.
Can I uninstall one Pack without uninstalling The Sims 4?
EA documents manual individual Pack-file removal for Mac. Its current public guidance reviewed here does not provide the same Pack-by-Pack file-removal process for Windows. Pack Selection unloads Packs on either platform without uninstalling the game.
Should I delete the Sims 4 folder in Documents to remove a Pack?
No. That is user data, not the Pack’s installation folder; it can contain saves, Mods, Tray files, and screenshots.
What if I use Steam?
