First check which EA Account is linked to your Xbox account: sign in to EA Account settings and open Connected Accounts. If you can access the old account, EA also provides an in-game option to switch accounts. Before unlinking, note that progress does not transfer to another EA Account, and eligibility depends on your account’s status and linking history.
Check which EA Account is linked to Xbox
- Sign in to the EA Account you think is connected to your Xbox account.
- Open EA Account settings and select Connected Accounts.
- Check the listed platform connections before changing anything. If you cannot access the suspected EA Account, use EA’s account-linking and recovery guidance rather than assuming that unlinking will move the Xbox connection or its data.
Recover the old EA Account or switch to another one
If you know the old EA Account login and want to keep using that account, EA’s in-game flow offers Recover my account. This is different from unlinking and attaching the Xbox account to a different EA Account.
Use the in-game switch flow
- Start the EA game on Xbox.
- When prompted about the linked account, choose Use another account.
- Continue through the unlink confirmation screens.
- Enter the credentials for the EA Account you want to use.
If you only need access to the old account, choose Recover my account instead of proceeding with the switch. See EA’s official linking instructions for the in-game options.
Unlink from EA Account settings
- Sign in to the EA Account currently linked to Xbox.
- Go to Connected Accounts and select Unlink beside the Xbox connection.
- Read EA’s warning, complete any identity verification, and confirm only if you accept the consequences.
EA’s unlinking instructions describe both the settings route and the account risks. Stop before confirming if you are unsure which account holds your progress or purchases.

What unlinking changes—and what it does not
Unlinking does not move saved progress to another EA Account. EA says it cannot move progress between EA Accounts. Game progress, DLC and expansions, memberships or subscriptions, rewards, and in-game purchases may remain associated with the EA Account first linked to the Xbox account. If you relink Xbox to the original EA Account, access to items may return if you can still access that account, but restoration is not guaranteed. Read EA’s lost-progress guidance before changing the connection.
EA also says game data such as saves and achievements is stored in the cloud and linked to the EA Account. Unlinking is not an account merge: merges are not always possible, and users cannot move games or platform accounts between EA Accounts themselves. Check eligibility before trying again
EA’s current help pages do not give one consistent timing rule for every unlink and relink. The current unlink page says users can switch linked accounts up to three times in a rolling year. A separate linking troubleshooting page says unlinking and relinking to a different account is unavailable if the account was linked less than one year ago, and should be possible after more than one year. Because these statements do not settle every account’s eligibility, check the current Connected Accounts controls and ask EA Help if the result is unclear. Do not rely on older guidance about a six-month restriction as the current rule.
Other restrictions may apply: the destination EA Account may not be eligible, and some platforms may only be linked once to a particular EA Account. EA says a greyed-out Unlink button means the EA Account is not eligible to relink. Its linking troubleshooting page and unlinking troubleshooting page explain the listed restrictions.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot access the old EA Account: follow EA’s account recovery or support route. The cited guidance does not guarantee that support can unlink the account without access or transfer progress.
- The Unlink button is greyed out: EA says the account is not eligible to relink. Check the current troubleshooting guidance and contact EA Help.
- The EA Account is disabled, banned, or suspended: EA says it cannot be unlinked in that state.
- The problem is with Xbox rather than the EA link: EA directs Xbox users to Xbox support.
- Progress appears missing after a change: verify which EA Account is signed in and which platform account is connected. EA says relinking the account that holds the progress may restore access, but progress cannot be moved between EA Accounts.
