To unlink a Steam account from a Rockstar Games account, sign in to the Rockstar account you want to unlink and submit Rockstar Support’s linking/unlinking request. Steam does not provide a self-service unlink for this connection. Before you request it, note Rockstar’s warning: you will be unable to play Rockstar titles on that Steam account and will lose progress in online Rockstar titles.
How to request a Steam unlink

Sign in to the Rockstar Games account that is currently linked to the Steam account you want to unlink.

Open Rockstar’s Steam unlinking support article and follow its link to the account settings linking/unlinking request form.

Submit the request and confirm in writing that you understand the consequences: you will be unable to play Rockstar Games titles on that Steam account, and you will lose progress in online Rockstar titles.

Wait for Rockstar Support to review eligibility. Rockstar says eligibility depends on the status of your Rockstar Games account; it does not promise a response time or that every request will be approved.
This is a Rockstar Support process, not a button in Steam or the general Rockstar account Connections settings. Rockstar says Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox app for PC account changes must be handled by its Support team. See its general account unlinking guidance for the distinction between PC and console accounts.
What can prevent an unlink?
Active security action
Rockstar’s PC unlinking policy says an account cannot be unlinked while it has an active security action, including a suspension or ban.
Link-change cooldown
After a PC platform linking change, a cooldown applies before another change can be requested. Support agents cannot bypass it; you must wait until it expires.

Wrong PC account linked initially
Rockstar describes a one-time, case-by-case exception for someone who initially linked the wrong PC platform account, provided no Rockstar title gameplay time or progress is associated with the Rockstar account. This is not a guaranteed exception. The eligibility rules are in Rockstar’s PC account linking and cooldown policy.
If you see “Switch your Rockstar Games Account”
An alert with this wording may mean the Steam account is linked to a different Rockstar Games account from the one you are currently signed into, or that account credentials have changed. Try the alert’s Switch Account button first. If that does not resolve the issue, Rockstar directs users to submit a sign-in support request through its sign-in support instructions. The alert alone does not establish that an unlink is needed or that a request will be eligible.

Steam unlinking is different from console unlinking
Rockstar’s general unlinking guidance says Xbox network and PlayStation Network accounts can generally be unlinked and relinked through Rockstar account settings. Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox app for PC accounts instead require Rockstar Support.
For console versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar says Story Mode and Online Play progress is associated with the Xbox Gamertag or PSN ID. Linking a different console account can mean losing access to that progress. This console-specific guidance is separate from the Steam unlink warning: Rockstar’s Steam article warns of losing progress in online Rockstar titles and losing the ability to play Rockstar titles on that Steam account.

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.

Which account name should you use?
Rockstar renamed Social Club to Rockstar Games in 2024. Existing Rockstar Games IDs and passwords remain in use, so older guides or searches may still say “Social Club account”; current support materials use “Rockstar Games account.”
