A Game About Digging A Hole lists 10 achievements. The most reliable route is to complete the story first, then use the reported achievement-mode run to clean up the remaining objectives. The Steam Community guide by Manxus, updated June 8, 2025, says to start a new game after finishing once; it also reports that progress carries over. That is community guidance, not an independently verified game mechanic, so check your platform’s achievement display if an unlock does not register. Steam describes the game as digging, collecting and selling resources, upgrading equipment, and uncovering a mystery; its store page lists Steam Achievements. The objectives below use the names and thresholds on the Epic Games Store achievement list, with strategy attributed to Manxus’s Steam Community guide.
Recommended order: finish the story, then clean up
- Complete the game once. Manxus’s Steam guide says to dig to -100 m, enter the mine, follow its path, and collect the treasure. This unlocks TREASURE.
- Start a new game for achievement mode. The guide says this is the way to unlock achievement mode and that progress from the first playthrough transfers. Treat that as the guide author’s report rather than a guaranteed result on every platform.
- Work through the remaining objectives. Keep track of cumulative actions and collectibles, and check your platform’s achievement display if an objective appears complete but does not unlock.
Achievement checklist
TREASURE — Find the treasure
Reach -100 m, enter the mine, follow the route through it, and collect the treasure to finish the game. This is both the story-completion objective and the natural first achievement for the route described in the community guide.
I AM SHOVEL ! — Shovel 4,000 times
Use the shovel until the cumulative total reaches 4,000. The guide describes the count as cumulative, so ordinary digging across your runs should contribute.
Old Crate — Open the crate in the garage
Find two underground keys, then use them to open the garage crate. The guide says the keys’ locations vary; it does not establish fixed depths. Its author reports finding keys at about -20 m and -39 m in one run, but those are examples, not reliable search coordinates.

Long Fall — Fall for at least four seconds
Make a sufficiently wide shaft so you do not hit a wall while falling, then drop from the top. A wider opening helps with this objective, even though a narrow shaft is more useful for the speed achievement.
BOOOOM! — Throw 100 dynamites
Throw dynamite 100 times. Manxus’s guide says dynamite is sold at the shop for $100 each; that price is the guide’s reported in-game figure.
Rainbow — Collect five Rainbow Ores
Collect five Rainbow Ores. The guide says they can appear underground at any depth and are rare, so this is a good objective to make progress on while pursuing other underground tasks rather than relying on a particular depth.

Earn a total of $20,000. The guide recommends selling deeper finds such as platinum and diamonds to build earnings. No particular route or earning rate is established, so treat this as a cumulative target rather than a timed task.

Collect 100 stones. The guide recommends picking them up at the surface, making this an easy objective to work on during regular digging and cleanup.
Wasted — Waste 50 ores
The guide’s method is to fill your inventory, then dig up stones so the game marks ores as destroyed. Continue until 50 ores have been wasted.

The Fastest — Beat the game in under 30 minutes
Finish the game in less than 30 minutes. Manxus recommends prioritizing shovel upgrades and digging mostly straight down through a narrow route. This focused run conflicts with the wider opening that makes Long Fall easier, so handle the fall objective separately rather than trying to optimize both routes at once.

For The Fastest, keep the route narrow and prioritize shovel progression over broad equipment upgrades, as the community guide advises. For ordinary completion and cleanup, take time to gather resources and pursue cumulative objectives along the way. A wide shaft is useful for Long Fall, while a narrow vertical route favors speed; the objectives reward different approaches, so there is no need to force them into one run.

First confirm the objective in your platform’s achievement display, then continue or repeat the action as appropriate. The Steam guide includes individual player reports of achievement issues and differing experiences with Long Fall; those comments do not establish a widespread defect. The guide’s claim that first-run progress transfers is also not an official platform specification, so verify progress in your own game.
