Bungie support says the former Episode: Echoes catalyst quests were removed and that the catalysts and weapon intrinsics now drop from Encore completions. Aim for an A-rank score, which support describes as a likely requirement, but do not treat one A-rank run as a guaranteed drop.
Current method: complete Encore through the Portal
- Obtain Choir of One. The Encore reward route applies to players who own the craftable Exotic.
- Open the Portal and launch Encore. Bungie support identifies Portal-based Encore completions as the current way to acquire Choir of One Catalysts and intrinsics.
- Finish the activity and pursue an A rank. A-rank performance is described by Bungie support as appearing to be one requirement. The response does not establish a definitive score threshold or say that A rank guarantees a Catalyst.
- Check the completion rewards. A Catalyst can drop after the run. If none appears, run Encore again; the available support guidance does not specify a guaranteed number of completions.
What happened to the old Catalyst quests?
The original Episode: Echoes rollout used a week-by-week Encore progression with additional perks and Catalysts. Bungie later removed the associated Episode: Echoes quests, including the Catalyst quests, during the content transition. That means older instructions telling you to visit Banshee for //CHOIR quests or follow a specific secret-chest quest chain describe the historical system, not the current requirement.

Does an A rank guarantee a Catalyst?
No guarantee is established. Bungie Help describes an A-rank score as seeming to be one of the requirements, while leaving open whether random chance also affects the reward. Treat A rank as the sensible target for every clear, not as a promise that the next completion will award a Catalyst.
If your first run gives nothing
- Confirm that the activity was launched through the Portal and that Choir of One is owned.
- Review the end-of-activity rewards rather than assuming the old quest chain is still required.
- Complete Encore again and continue targeting an A rank.
- Do not rely on claims that a particular fixed number of runs guarantees every Catalyst; the cited support answers do not confirm such a schedule.
How many Catalysts are there, and what are their perks?
Current official guidance confirms that multiple Choir of One Catalysts and intrinsics can come from Encore completions, but it does not provide a complete current list of Catalyst names, effects, or an exact total. Check the weapon’s current in-game inspection screen for the Catalysts available to your account instead of relying on an older guide’s list.

Why older guides conflict with the Portal method
Bungie’s August 2024 rollout described Choir of One as a craftable Exotic whose extra perks and Catalysts unlocked through successive weeks of Encore progression. Later support guidance changed the practical acquisition route after the Episode: Echoes quests were removed. A guide written during that original rollout can therefore be accurate historically while still giving the wrong steps for a current player.
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- No quest at Banshee: expected; the old Episode: Echoes questline is no longer the current unlock path.
- No Catalyst after a clear: repeat Encore. A drop is not documented as guaranteed on the first completion.
- Uncertainty about rank: target A rank, because support identifies it as a likely requirement, but recognize that the exact threshold and any random element remain unspecified.
- Missing Catalyst names in a guide: use the current in-game inspection screen; the available official guidance does not establish a definitive published list.
The Bottom Line
Own Choir of One, launch Encore through the Portal, and target an A-rank completion. The former Episode: Echoes Catalyst quests are gone; Catalysts now come from Encore completions, but Bungie has not confirmed a guaranteed rank threshold, drop guarantee, or fixed number of runs.
