Character level controls when higher tiers become widely available: Tier 2 at level 10, Tier 3 at 20, Tier 4 at 30, and Tier 5 at 40. If you can see an implant but cannot equip it, check your Cyberware Capacity and any Perk requirement for its slot.
Where to get new cyberware
Go to a ripperdoc and open the cyberware menu. Ripperdocs sell new implants and let you upgrade cyberware you already own; you do not equip new implants directly from the inventory screen. CD PROJEKT RED described the post-2.0 change in its Cyberware overview for Update 2.0.
When higher cyberware tiers unlock
CD PROJEKT RED Support lists these character-level thresholds for broad availability of cyberware tiers:

These are availability thresholds, not a promise that every item appears at exactly that level: lower- or higher-tier items may also be encountered. Each tier has a Tier+ variant that does not add a level requirement. See the current Cyberware item tiers guidance for the published thresholds.

If the item or tier you want is not available, gain character levels and check ripperdocs again. Street Cred is not the published general gate for higher cyberware tiers; the post-2.0 tier guidance uses character level.
If you can see an implant but cannot equip it
Check Cyberware Capacity
Cyberware Capacity limits how much cyberware V can equip. Capacity increases as you level up, and some items can affect it. Compare the implant’s capacity cost with your available capacity before buying or replacing gear. The Update 2.0 cyberware overview explains the capacity system and the Edgerunner Perk, which lets you exceed the limit by a certain amount at a health cost.

Check for a Perk requirement
Some cyberware slots are unlocked by specific Perks. If capacity is sufficient but a slot is unavailable, inspect the relevant Perk requirements rather than assuming you need more Street Cred or story progress.
Choose cyberware that fits your build
At the ripperdoc, compare an implant’s effects, tier or variant, attribute attunement, and capacity cost. Cyberware is attuned to attributes, so an implant that complements your character’s build may be more useful than a higher-tier option that does not. Existing implants can also be upgraded at a ripperdoc, so check the upgrade option before replacing one.

What changed after Update 2.0
This guidance describes the system introduced with Update 2.0, announced for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on September 21, 2023. The update overhauled core mechanics and replaced older cyberware rarity labels such as Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary with Tiers 1 through 5. Guides that rely on the old labels or older vendor rules may not match the current system.
If your save predates Update 2.0, the patch added a side quest introducing the revised cyberware system. The official notes describe it as an introduction, not as a general requirement to unlock purchases.
