Update Genshin Impact through HoYoPlay on PC, Google Play on Android, or the App Store on iPhone. PS4 is no longer a supported update platform: HoYoverse ended PS4 update support on April 8, 2026, at 06:00 UTC+8, and players can no longer log in on PS4 after that cutoff. Know which part of the game needs updating
“Update” can mean more than one download. The launcher or app store updates the application; opening the current application may then trigger a separate download or verification of game resources. Pre-installation is an optional advance download of resources for an upcoming version—it does not replace the final launcher or store update.
If your store says the game is current but Genshin asks to download files after you open it, that can be the normal resource-update stage rather than a failed store update.

Update Genshin Impact on PC
- Close Genshin Impact if it is running, then open the official HoYoPlay launcher.
- If HoYoPlay prompts you to update itself, let that finish first.
- Select the game’s update or download control. Its wording can vary by launcher version or language; look for the control where you would normally launch the game.
- Wait for the download and any file verification to finish, then select Launch.
- If the game requests another download after opening, let the in-game resource update complete before logging in.
HoYoverse’s update instructions describe the PC pre-installation control and require the launcher to be updated before using it.

If the PC update fails
- Confirm you opened the official HoYoPlay launcher. Restart the launcher and, if needed, the computer.
- Check that the installation drive has enough free space. An update may need temporary working room as well as room for installed files.
- Pause other large downloads and check whether a firewall or security software is blocking the launcher.
- Avoid moving or renaming the game folder during an update. If the launcher offers repair, file verification, or a locate-game option, use the available function rather than deleting the game as a first step.
- Before reinstalling, make sure you know how to sign in to the HoYoverse account linked to your progress; a reinstall can require a large redownload.
Update Genshin Impact on PS4: support has ended
There is no current Genshin Impact update path for PS4. HoYoverse ended PS4 update support at 06:00 UTC+8 on April 8, 2026. PS4 installations no longer receive patches, and logging in on PS4 is no longer possible after the cutoff, according to HoYoverse.
For context, the old process for supported PS4 games was to highlight a game on the home screen, press OPTIONS, choose Check for Update, and follow the prompts. Sony still documents that general process, but it cannot provide new Genshin patches after HoYoverse discontinued PS4 support. See Sony’s PS4 application update and troubleshooting guidance.

Move PS4 progress to a supported platform
- If you can still access the account settings, open Genshin Impact and go to Paimon Menu > Settings > Account > User Center.
- Bind another login method, such as an email/HoYoverse account, before relying on a different device. Do not assume a PlayStation-only login transfers automatically.
- Install Genshin Impact on PS5, PC, Android, or iPhone, then sign in with the linked account and use the same server.
HoYoverse recommends moving to PS5 or another supported platform and says progress is not affected by the platform transition. If you cannot access the account-binding settings, consult HoYoverse’s announcement for its account guidance. Do not assume purchases or platform-specific purchase arrangements work identically on every platform.

Use Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon.
- Choose Manage apps & device, then See details under available updates.
- Find Genshin Impact and tap Update. Alternatively, search for the game in Google Play and open its listing; tap Update if the button is available.
These steps match Google Play’s app-update instructions. HoYoverse also says Android players can follow an in-game update prompt or update through Google Play.

Use the in-game prompt
If Genshin opens and displays an update prompt, follow its on-screen instructions. This may download game resources separately from the app update in Google Play.
Update Genshin Impact on iPhone
- Open the App Store and tap your account/profile icon.
- Scroll to pending updates, find Genshin Impact, and tap Update.
- If it is not listed, search for Genshin Impact in the App Store and open its listing. Tap Update if offered.
HoYoverse directs iOS players to update through the App Store; an in-game resource download or pre-installation does not substitute for that app update. If the listing says Open, the App Store is not currently offering an app update to that device and account.

Pre-install resources before a version update
When HoYoverse makes pre-installation available, it lets you download upcoming game resources ahead of the version release. Availability and exact controls can vary by version.
On PC
- Update HoYoPlay first.
- When offered, select Game Pre-Installation beside the launch control and let the download finish.
PC players can generally continue playing while pre-installation runs, but it uses network bandwidth.

On Android and iPhone
- Open Genshin Impact and go to Paimon Menu > Settings > Resources > Pre-Install Resource Package.
- Alternatively, tap the Pre-Install Resource Package icon on the login screen when it appears.
Mobile players cannot play while pre-installation is running. After the new version is released, install any required app-store update as well. HoYoverse documents these pre-installation steps and platform differences in its official update instructions.

No Update button appears
- The game may already be current, or the update may not yet have reached your store region. Availability can differ because of platform distribution and store propagation; check the official announcement and your platform’s store.
- Refresh the launcher or store by closing and reopening it, then restart the device if needed. Confirm you are signed in to the expected store account and viewing the correct game listing.
- Check free storage and whether the device’s operating system is eligible for the current version. Do not treat Google’s general storage warning as Genshin’s required space.
- On PS4, no usable Genshin update is expected after the April 8, 2026 discontinuation.
Download stalls or installation fails
- Give the process a little time: it may be downloading, verifying, or unpacking files.
- Check the connection and available storage. A stable Wi-Fi connection is often preferable for a large download; cellular use is not universally prohibited.
- If the platform supports it, pause and resume the download. Otherwise, close and reopen the game, launcher, or store.
- Restart the device and check for system-software updates.
- On Android, Google recommends checking the connection, storage, and system updates, restarting the device, and reopening Google Play. Its troubleshooting guidance notes that downloads can fail when a device has less than approximately 1 GB free; this is a general Google Play warning, not Genshin’s storage requirement. - On PS4, Sony’s general troubleshooting advice for supported games includes testing the network connection, restarting the console, and updating system software. Reinstallation is a last resort, and it cannot restore discontinued Genshin updates. See Sony’s guidance.
- Reinstall only after other steps fail and you have confirmed account access. Deleting the game can mean a substantial redownload, and an unlinked account can complicate signing in on another platform.
When will the update be available?
There is no single release time that guarantees every player can download an update simultaneously. Platform distribution, regional store propagation, and maintenance timing can affect availability. Pre-installation is an advance resource download; wait for the platform update or in-game instructions when the version is released.
