To update Minecraft Bedrock on Windows 10, open the Minecraft Launcher, select Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock), then choose Update if it appears. If it does not, select the game’s Installation tab and choose Check for Updates. If the Launcher still does not find or install the update, check Microsoft Store updates next.
Before you update
- Close Minecraft if it is running, connect to the internet, and make sure the PC has free storage.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns or claimed the game.
- Check that you are updating Minecraft for Windows, also called Bedrock Edition—not Java Edition. They are separate game installations.
The Minecraft Launcher, Bedrock game, Microsoft Store, Xbox app, and Gaming Services are related but distinct components. Updating the Launcher does not necessarily update the game, and a game update can fail even when the Launcher itself is current.
Method 1: Update Bedrock in the Minecraft Launcher
- Open Start, search for Minecraft Launcher, and open it.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account associated with your Minecraft purchase.
- In the game list, select Minecraft for Windows or Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
- If an Update button appears, select it and wait for the download and installation to finish.
- When the update completes, select Play.
Minecraft says Bedrock updates normally happen automatically through the Launcher when the computer has an active internet connection. Automatic updates can still be delayed—for example, if the PC is offline, short on storage, or experiencing a Store, account, or gaming-services issue. If you have not opened the Launcher recently, you may need to start the update yourself. See Minecraft’s manual Bedrock update instructions.
Method 2: Make the Launcher check for an update
If there is no visible Update button:
- In the Minecraft Launcher, select Minecraft for Windows or Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
- Open Installation.
- Select Check for Updates.
- If an update is found, let it finish downloading and installing. Restart the Launcher if its screen does not refresh.
Labels and layout may vary between Launcher builds. If you cannot find the option, make sure you selected the Windows/Bedrock game rather than Java Edition, then use the Store check below.

Method 3: Check Microsoft Store
Use the Store if the Launcher does not offer an update, the game was installed through the Store, or the Launcher is failing to download or install it.
- Open Start, search for Microsoft Store, and open it.
- Select the profile or account icon and check that you are signed in with the account that owns Minecraft.
- Open Library or the Store’s updates area.
- Select Check for Updates.
- Install available updates for Minecraft for Windows, Minecraft Launcher, Xbox, or related gaming components, then reopen the Launcher.
Microsoft Store app updates are separate from ordinary Windows Update activity; running Windows Update alone does not perform this Store check. Microsoft’s directions are at Get updates for apps and games in Microsoft Store.
If Minecraft is missing from the Store library, first check the account. The Store may also be unavailable on some managed work or school PCs, or the game may not appear there in the same way for every installation. Do not buy the game again just because an update is missing.

If the update is stuck or the Launcher will not update
Work through these steps in order. The Launcher relies on Store and Xbox-related services, so an update problem may not be fixed by repeatedly clicking Update.
1. Restart the Launcher and PC
Close the Launcher completely, restart the computer, then open the current Minecraft Launcher from Start and check again. Confirm that the connection is working and that the drive has enough free space.
2. Repair the Minecraft Launcher
- Open Start, search for Minecraft Launcher, right-click it, and select App settings.
- Select Repair.
- Reopen the Launcher and retry the update.
On some Windows 10 builds, the route may appear under Settings > Apps > Apps & features instead. Repair is the less disruptive option to try first.

3. Reset the Launcher only if Repair did not help
Return to the Launcher’s app settings and select Reset, then reopen it and sign in if asked. Reset is more aggressive than Repair and can remove app data or settings. Back up important worlds and custom content before moving on to Reset or reinstalling; do not assume every local setting will be preserved.

- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
WSReset, then press Enter or select OK. - Wait for the cache-reset process to finish, reopen the Launcher, and try again.
WSReset resets the Store cache; it is not a full Minecraft reinstall and should not be treated as a fix for every Store problem. Minecraft includes it in its Launcher update troubleshooting guidance.
5. Run the official Gaming Services Repair Tool
Minecraft’s troubleshooting guidance says Xbox services are involved in delivering game updates. If the Store and Launcher both fail, or the update repeatedly starts and rolls back, use the Xbox Gaming Services Repair Tool page. If it offers a downloadable tool, download it from there, run it with administrator permission if requested, follow the prompts, and restart the PC. Then reopen the Store and Launcher and try the update again. Tool availability and screens can change; avoid third-party repair utilities or unverified commands.

6. Check the account and license
If you see a license error such as 0X803F8001, this may be an account or ownership check rather than a failed game update. Check that the same Microsoft account is signed in to the Minecraft Launcher, Microsoft Store, and Xbox app. Sign out of any mismatched accounts, sign in with the account that owns the game, restart the Launcher, and check again. Follow Minecraft’s license-error guidance if the message remains.
7. Reinstall only as a later step
Reinstalling may help with a damaged installation, but it is not guaranteed to fix a wrong account, Store cache issue, or Gaming Services problem. Before uninstalling anything, confirm your account and back up important local worlds, screenshots, add-ons, and settings. Do not delete the Minecraft folder as an update shortcut. Does updating Bedrock update the Launcher?
Not necessarily. The Launcher is a separate application, while Minecraft for Windows is the game. The Launcher can update when opened, but Bedrock may still need its own update check; likewise, updating the game does not prove the Launcher is current. If the Launcher itself is not updating, use the repair steps above and Minecraft’s Launcher troubleshooting page.

Windows 10 support status
Windows 10 reached the end of standard support on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says Windows 10 PCs continue to work, but standard technical assistance, feature updates, and security updates are no longer provided after that date. This does not by itself mean Minecraft has stopped working on Windows 10, and an operating-system upgrade is not required just to try the update steps above. If Store, Launcher, or Gaming Services problems persist, consider whether your PC is eligible for Windows 11; Microsoft says eligible Windows 10 version 22H2 PCs that meet Windows 11 hardware requirements can upgrade at no charge. Does Minecraft Bedrock update automatically on Windows 10?
